The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is the best version of one of the greatest classics in the genre. Even with some dated elements in the remaster, it remains a top-tier RPG and a true masterclass in how to properly remaster a great game. It preserves the core essence of the original while adding extra “flavor” and “crunch” in key areas.

Oblivion has returned in an enhanced version that borders on being a remake, offering players the chance to experience one of the deepest RPG titles in the best possible form. It makes full use of its rich world and diverse storytelling. As a remastered version, it indeed delivers a significantly improved visual experience, but that doesn't mean it's free of technical issues. The game suffers from noticeable frame rate drops, weak AI, and animations that still feel outdated.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t need to be – it’s a faithful revival that respects the original whilst making it far more approachable in 2025. Despite dated mechanics and persistent bugs, the heart of the game beats as strongly as ever, whilst the adventure itself will never grow old (especially with brilliant questlines such as the Dark Brotherhood, which I promise I won’t mention again). For veterans, it’s a nostalgic triumph, and for newcomers, it’s a slightly creaky but worthwhile epic that still stands strong almost twenty-years on from its original release.

Even if Oblivion isn’t your favorite The Elder Scrolls games, Oblivion Remastered is a triumph and sets a high bar for what to expect from a game remaster.

I think it’s no secret from my review that I enjoyed it. The graphical upgrade with the small addition of a ton of quality of life features really makes me feel a special type of nostalgia that I haven’t felt in gaming in years. The game might still have its jankiness in most aspects, but I do think that is what makes it unique. A lot of people said right off the rip that this was a remake, and I have to disagree. It is very much the oblivion of old with a very nice, be it a little stuttery sometimes, paint job that feels like something new while also keeping the same gameplay aspects and story that made it so good back in the day.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is a fantastic update to one of Bethesda’s most classic titles. Almost everything that needed to be revised or fixed has been, while everything else – every bit of goofy charm and jank – has been kept intact. This is a brilliant example of how to remaster a dated game, and I hope the same process is applied to Fallout 3 and New Vegas in the future.

Going back to Oblivion is like opening an old box of memories, only this time the photos are in high definition. It's a tribute to one of the most influential role-playing games in history, and also a proof that classics can be reborn with respect and wisdom.

Few remasters succeed in delivering the same game with such impact—preserving its original charm while making it look and feel like something entirely new. If that was the goal behind The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered, then I’d say the developers have absolutely accomplished it.

It is an echo of days that still breathe every step, glance, and moment tells a story lost to time. Tamriel is reborn with vibrant colors, intricate details, and cutting-edge technology, yet it retains the same legendary soul. Immerse yourself in this world and shut the gates of Oblivion once and for all.

There are very few times that I don't believe my own eyes, but Oblivion Remastered has managed to throw me back two decades, and give me exactly the same jaw drop at the age of 31 as when I was 13.

Oblivion Remastered isn’t just a visual overhaul—it’s a respectful restoration. It preserves the original’s mad charm while sanding off the roughest edges. And sure, it’s not without its flaws, but if you're a returning hero or a fresh-faced prisoner stepping out of that sewer for the first time, this version is the best way to play.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is a safe remaster of the original Oblivion that does nothing new but gives it a new lease of life that it very much needed with a significant visual upgrade, including sharper textures, enhanced lighting and modern rendering using the Unreal 5 Engine.

It is The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. It's called Remastered but it feels like a remake. It is huge, addictive, fun, exciting. Virtuos has polished it up and fixed it properly at the most critical points (apart from a few bugs that unfortunately remained). If you've never been to Cyrodiil, now is the time to do it.

TES IV: Oblivion Remastered is a game that I can easily recommend to those who love role-playing games. With modern visuals and game mechanics that sometimes seem old but are still better in my opinion, the chance to replay one of Bethesda's unforgettable classics is a must-have.
