While it doesn't reinvent the Soulslike formula, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers executes the fundamentals with confidence.

If a high difficulty level was blocking you from trying various soulslikes, Wuchang can act as a gateway game to this genre. It will teach you the basics without punishing too hard, but most likely will quickly fade from your memory. A few interesting ideas are not enough to outweigh the fact that Wuchang simply lacks personality.

Other than that, the game runs smoothly on PC but features a few inoffensive frame rate dips that occur occasionally in some areas. Overall, while Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has some notable flaws and may require some balancing, the game offers fresh and innovative elements that make it enjoyable and memorable.

It may be the best soul-like game in recent years except for the works of FS Club.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a rough gem that, beneath a tough and unyielding exterior, offers a number of very interesting insights, making it worth playing for those who appreciate the genre.

All and all, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers isn’t perfect but it’s more interesting than Black Myth: Wukong was in my opinion, and with a little bit of refinement, this game could wind up as one of the most beloved non-FromSoftware soulslike games.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has not chosen the path of evolution or transformation for the soulslike landscape, nor can it truly be considered a particularly unique take on the subgenre. However, it undoubtedly delivers an experience filled with finesse, engagement, and respect for the player. Many of the elements borrowed from the giants of the genre are implemented with care and the expected level of quality—not to feel like mere imitations or inferior versions of older titles, but rather to evoke a nostalgic sense of returning to that golden era. So I say this with confidence: for fans of soulslikes and those who enjoy challenge served with a touch of logic, Wuchang is a must-play.

China is on a roll and nothing can stop it! Maybe WUCHANG won’t create as much buzz as Wukong but it certainly left a stong impression on me with it’s brilliant level design, art direction and elegant action. It’s the soulslike game that has it’s own unique identity and hopefully a franchise starter like Nioh. Play it, you won’t regret it.

In terms of overall design, I really feel like Wuchang: Fallen Feathers falls firmly in the "solid and fun but not exceptional" category. While the boss fights are fun, they didn't knock off my socks. I had a good time with it, and it's a solid entry in the Soulslike genre. It does its job quite well, but it doesn't really stand out from the crowd, either. It has some great design choices. I hope to see other games in the genre adapt in the future, but otherwise, it's a fairly by-the-numbers Souls game that is a good time but a little too safe for its own good.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a game that, despite its structure and initial difficulty, delivers a surprisingly enjoyable experience. Its rough edges and unpolished aspects are evident, but the core strengths - particularly its rewarding evasion-focused combat - elevate it. Though it feels like a product from a bygone era, its compelling gameplay moments make it a worthwhile journey.

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers offers intense boss battles and plenty of options to tackle the challenge, but it presents levels designed to drive you crazy and revolves around a poorly thought-out difficulty system. It's tricky rather than challenging, but if you can look past that, you'll find a soulslike game capable of satisfying your thirst for action.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a must-play for fans of fast combat. The controls are smooth, the game doesn’t overstay its welcome (my playtime clocked in at about 45 hours), and the boss fights are well-designed but punishing in the way you’d expect from a Souls-like. Missing an attack can be the difference between death and a staggering combo, but this applies to both you and your enemies. The story may initially appear on the lighter side, but there’s subtle foreshadowing of something darker throughout, plus a great twist of an ending that really turns the narrative on its head. Couple this with the strong lore and interesting characters, and you have a formula ensuring you’ll want to see your adventure through.

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, the more time you spend playing, the better it becomes. Deep customization, interesting combat, and a fulfilling New Game Plus loop make up for its early mistakes with ambiguous rules and annoying features like Madness.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers doesn’t rewrite the Souls-like rulebook, but it does enough to stand apart through clever combat mechanics, a flexible progression system, and memorable encounters. While technical hiccups and a sometimes overly familiar structure hold it back from true greatness, it remains a rewarding and engaging journey for fans of the genre – one that’s well worth enduring a few rough edges to experience. And when the technical issues get fixed? You can add a point on to my score.

Despite a steep learning curve and some overlooked polish, Wuchang Fallen Feathers stands as a deeply atmospheric and mechanically rich soulslike. It’s an open world that rewards exploration, and its layered combat keeps each encounter tense and tactical. For players who enjoy refining their approach and surviving merciless odds, this is a standout title that balances brutality with beauty. With creative flexibility, rich lore, and complex progression systems, Wuchang Fallen Feathers earns its place among the genre’s more memorable entries.

There's a comfortable familiarity to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers that most Souls-like fans will love – despite its excessive exposition, the game delivers on the promise of a polished, well-rounded experience that rewards players for exploring their preferred playstyle instead of shoehorning each player into the same experience.

Not revolutionary and not groundbreaking, yet fully entertaining, complex, and at times even thrilling. Wuchang certainly does not disgrace its genre—it honors the rules, cleverly innovates, and delivers a functional experience with brutal action and a tear-jerking narrative. Our Chinese colleagues have once again cooked up a quality dish.
