Though, it speaks numbers to the quality of Ball x Pit that a game that drags at times is still worthy of recommendation. The sections of this ploddingly dull variety can be excused if you consider that the game has an arcadey style and tone to it. This is a game you’ll jump into and enjoy yourself for your play session with the pure intention of having fun. It is not a game with a deep overarching plot or meaning and it does not need to be. It sets out to be a whimsical little game and it pulls off that rather well.

BALL x PIT is a fantastic reinvention of Breakout with a new twist. The game combines concepts from the roguelite genre, farming simulators, and shoot-em-ups. In theory, this blending of elements shouldn't work, but the game is fantastically addictive thanks to a fun gameplay loop. Even though the game can often get repetitive, the presentation and balanced difficulty help to navigate through any monotony. If you're a fan of Breakout or the roguelite genre, then BALL x PIT is a must-buy.

BALL x PIT is a thrilling, addictive, and downright crazy game! It’s one of those games that reminds you why video games are so captivating. It’s beautiful to see this mix of subgenres and classic game ideas come together here, in such a charming and masterful way by Kenny Sun and his friends. I don’t recommend it if you already have a big backlog, because this game will steal all your free time.

“Ball X Pit” is a “must-have” for arcade and / or roguelite fans. Kenny Sun shows that meta progression is a tool rather than a necessity and delivers fantastic and satisfying gameplay with great (and insane) ball synergies. Get ready to see the day, or night, pass in the blink of an eye. And if you’re a fan of leaderboards like me, you’ll going to have a great time.

Ball x Pit is a brilliantly chaotic and endlessly satisfying experience that blends sharp physics-based combat with clever progression and city-building. Its fast pace, inventive fusions, and constantly rewarding gameplay loop easily put it up there with the likes of Vampire Survivors and Balatro as incredibly addictive indie experiences… it’s that good. Sure, it has some imperfections, with the building system taking a little time to grasp and some late-game runs feeling uneven when the right upgrades don’t appear, but these small frustrations barely scratch the surface of what is otherwise a masterfully designed loop of action, experimentation, and progress. I just absolutely love the game, and even after sinking close to twenty-hours in, I’m looking forward to many, many more.

BALL x PIT is one of those games that are initially difficult to understand. The strange combination of varied gameplay mechanics seems somewhat daunting for beginners at first, but don't be too discouraged. None of us are fully prepared for the wonderful bizarreness of the game.

Ball x Pit is a brilliantly designed roguelite bursting with creativity, depth, and energy. A little grindy at times, but its fusion mechanics, character variety, and audiovisual style make it one of the year’s most exciting surprises.

BALL x PIT is addictive. Its blend of bullet hell and city builder mechanics works surprisingly well, offering addictive gameplay and constant progression that keeps you coming back for more. It's chaotic and sometimes difficult to follow the action on screen, but the satisfaction of watching New Ballibonia grow and improving your builds more than makes up for it.

BALL x PIT took me by surprise and instantly sits in my pile of contenders for my personal game of 2025. I loved that no two runs ever felt identical, and whilst there is more failure than success when it comes to each run, it’s super addictive. It is the perfect pick-up and play game if you only have half an hour to spare. Being able to bounce from the Xbox Series X to my gaming laptop and even my Lenovo Legion Go. There have been many moments where I’ve intended on a few quick runs, and it’s turned into hours. This is one of the definite must-play games of this year. If you have an Xbox Game Pass subscription, get it downloaded. Otherwise, just buy it, it’s an incredible indie gem.

Ball x Pit is what I love the most about Devolver Digital’s curation: scouting and publishing ideas that sound completely chaotic and nonsensical, only for them to end up working so much better than anyone could have ever predicted. The combination of bullet hell shooters, block puzzles, city management, and traditional roguelike elements are all seemingly random ingredients that work incredibly well together, resulting in one of the most addictive roguelite gameplay loops in recent memory.

Even with an uneven grind that loses purpose in the home stretch, Ball x Pit is still a mesmerizing mix of the brick breaker genre and auto-scrolling shooters. It doesn’t solely lean on one pillar, though, and greatly benefits from this hybrid approach. Stacking a screen-filling amount of upgrades and witnessing their destructive capabilities is empowering and being able to bounce balls with precision means it’s more than dopamine slop to passively consume. Ball x Pit certainly traffics in that space but does so intelligently and without feeling like a guilty pleasure. It’s just a pleasure, full stop.

In its current state, BALL x PIT is dangerous for my free time. It feels laser-targeted to me in somehow combining bits from genres I enjoy into something incredible. The Nintendo Switch version has a few rough edges and the game itself could use some visual tweaks for better readability, but I absolutely adore the time I’ve put into BALL x PIT. I can’t wait to work at unlocking everything it has to offer, assuming I don’t delete it so I can be more productive.

Ball x Pit is without question the surprise hit of the year, a title that came so far out of left field and is so wacky that of course Devolver Digital is its publisher. Their golden touch yet again has found a game so fun, so addictive, that it is easily a contender for my personal Game of the Year. When a game is on your mind every hour of day, even when you are focused on an entirely different game, then you've certainly done something right.

BALL x PIT is enchanting primarily for its originality; mixing genres is always a risky decision in the gaming world, but Kenny Sun and Devolver Digital have proven with their work that shooting spheres and breaking blocks can be extremely addictive and engaging, as well as a mesmerizing experience when all the pieces fit together. In the end, even the game's problems regarding grinding and repetitiveness aren't enough to prevent it from being highly recommended.

Is BALL x PIT destined to be the next roguelike addiction that will sweep the globe? Not quite. While this ball-flinging indie is a satisfying and creative genre twist, its reliance on repetition likely won’t capture players quite to the degree of other roguelike x greats. That’s not to say that BALL x PIT isn’t a well-rounded experience; in fact, it’s a game that most roguelike fans will find strangely relaxing and hypnotic. And if, like me, you’re nostalgic for the brick-breaking gameplay of yesteryear, then these balls are certainly worth grabbing.
