Some games just keep bouncing back. Though technically a new release, Ball x Pit is rich in echoes of bygone classics. It isn't, as you may think, a...

BALL x PIT is a fun blend of old-school brick breaker and shoot ’em up games. Its creative ball fusions and frantic gameplay will sell you, but the variety will keep you engaged. It’s still a roguelite with some occasionally exhausting moments and very challenging bosses, but it’s ultimately inventive and full of personality.

BALL x PIT is an unexpectedly addictive roguelike that throws a few well-worn ideas into a pot to meld them into something bizarre, captivating, and unique. While there’s a rhythm to firing, fusing, and evolving balls that’s moreish and hard to put down, things like the city-building complement the package so well, it’s the ultimate “one more run” game. And just like the balls you’ll spend hours branding the enemy with, you’ll keep coming back again, and again, and again.

Though an amalgamation of ideas, BALL x PIT makes for simple, addicting fun. Its ball-breaker concept is packed with enough variety to keep you hooked for increasingly harder challenges.

The combination of level- and base-gameplay is really what makes Ball x Pit a joy to play. You’ll either end up with a winning run and get to either progress further down the pit, or you’ll quickly realise that a character needs to be levelled up through more levels, or through careful upgrading of buildings tied to speed, damage, and so on. There’s always something to do, and you’re always progressing in some way.

As a rougelite diehard, Ball x Pit is one of the most original to date. Few in this genre so well reward and mercifully punish a run. Presentation leaves a bit to be desired, but it's done so well you won't even notice.

BALL x PIT offers a highly diverse range of build options, while its city-building system outside of combat creates a long and rewarding progression curve. There's always a new goal to pursue, and the constant cascade of bouncing balls delivers a uniquely satisfying, almost pachinko-like thrill.

Proving there's almost nothing that can't be painted with the roguelite brush, Ball x Pit manages a dangerously intoxicating blend of arcade brick-breaking, ball-based alchemy and town planning that I haven't been able to put down.

If there’s any complaints to make about Ball x Pit it’s that there’s not more game here. Only having eight levels means you’ll revisit a lot of the same sights and you might eventually get bored of the repetition.

BALL x PIT is a mash-up of Vampire Survivors and Breakout, and it is just as addictive. Runs are short and explosive, and you can feel the improvements in between them, all lending itself to giving it one last try, again and again.

BALL x PIT is impressive in its ability to build an entire experience around one core idea. Players will launch balls at enemies during their runs and will then use the same mechanic to unlock new heroes and gather resources. Variety, starting with heroes and continuing with ball powers and character perks, means every run is different and there’s plenty of space to experiment.

With engaging gameplay and a progression system that constantly rewards players' efforts and planning, BALL x PIT shows that seemingly unlikely ideas can be transformed into excellent products when well executed.

Ball x Pit is a very easy game to pick up and play, though it’s also one where the central gameplay conceit is very much present in the free demo; I could see some gamers bouncing (pun not intended) off it pretty hard, but if the demo intrigues you, trust me, there’s a lot more to come that does get addictive fast.

Feeling like a combination of Vampire Survivors and Peggle, BALL x PIT is a unique roguelike that we simply can't get enough of. It's tough, and death can come quite easily, but that just makes us want to jump in again and again.

BALL X PIT filled a hole, or a pit if you will, for me that I wasn't aware I had. The only thing I can do is keep crawling back out, shouting that others should join in, before I'm dragged back into its depths again. I don't think I'll be leaving the BALL X PIT anytime soon.

Ball x Pit hits that sweet spot where quick ricochets, steady upgrades, and short runs come together in a way that just feels good. The camp work between dives gives you something chill to manage before jumping back into the mess. Some runs start slow and the screen can get crowded, but that comes with the territory. If you want a game you can pick up for a few minutes and still feel like you made progress, this one fits the bill.
