While the gameplay itself is superficial, Dispatch is a surprisingly funny and poignant debut that shows great potential.

Still, despite some minor complaints about the ending, I had an absolute blast with each episode of Dispatch. For the last few weeks, checking out the new episodes has become a part of my Wednesday schedule that I couldn’t wait for and now that the game is over I’m going to miss it next Wednesday. With excellent characters, an interesting world, and a mostly satisfying conclusion, my only real complaints are that I wanted more of it. More room to develop the plot and more of the interesting gameplay. Hopefully it won’t be too terribly long before we get more of Dispatch.

The new work from AdHoc Studio and Critical Role is an adventure that arrives in the right place at the right time, just as you would expect from a superhero managed at its best by the SDN.

At the core, Dispatch tells a tale of humanity, togetherness, and teamwork. It does so with immense quality across the board. From beginning to end, right down to a satisfying conclusion that both leaves space for expansion of these characters and the universe, but also works fantastically as a one-off narrative adventure.

Dispatch wins because it understands that heroism is logistics, leadership is a style choice, and comedy lands best when it’s grounded in work you recognize.

Dispatch is a triumphant debut from Adhoc Studio, echoing its own themes of second chances. Minor gripes like unnecessary QTEs and light narrative branching can’t dim its brilliance—this is narrative-driven excellence at its peak. It isn’t flawless, but it’s profoundly human, laugh-out-loud funny, and surprisingly emotional. It’s one of 2025’s absolute must-plays for every type of gamer and will be heralded as a redemption of the dwindling genre for years to come.

By now, it's well documented that the original vision for Ad-Hoc Studio's Dispatch was very different to the game that hit store shelves. Conceived as a choose your own adventure, live action, interactive TV show akin to Netflix's Bandersnatch, the COVID lockdowns resulted in the project being shelved for a few years, and only uncovered in the wake of creative differences with Telltale Studios over The Wolf Among Us. Eventually, after a troubled development, Critical Role (yes the D&D podcast people) announced a partnership to help Ad-Hoc found their creative vision.

The year of 2025 has been banger after banger for indie games, with Clair Obscur, Hades 2, and Megabonk racking up millions of players. Add Dispatch to the list of feverishly insatiable delights; it’s a masterful tale of collaboration, immersion, and the tried-and-true question of “what does it mean to be a hero?” On top of that, it’s a resurgence of Telltale greatness with a Critical Role edge this time around, making for one of the best stories to experience in narrative gaming today.

Over eight episodes, Dispatch doesn't waste a single second. There's no filler here, just quality, in a touching narrative told at a perfectly paced rhythm, brought to life by animation quality that rivals the best productions. Aaron Paul and Laura Bailey stand out in a cast marked by surprising performances, bringing to life a group of villains who have become heroes in my heart. The writing and dialogue are so superb that they immediately made me forget the odd narrative cliché. What remains is the mark of a story and a team of superheroes that I will not soon forget.

"The Heroic Comedy That Broke the Genre Rules" Dispatch delivers a masterful narrative experience that redefines heroism from a human perspective, far removed from spectacle. With its cinematic direction, powerful voice acting, and impactful decision-making system, the game succeeds in building a cohesive story that balances humor with depth. In a great year for gaming, Dispatch stands tall. Don’t dismiss it because you don’t like the formula; think of it as an interactive motion comic. Open your mind and enjoy one of the year’s best stories. A lot of heart and strong writing should put this on your Sonar—ope, sorry, your radar. Dispatch is a must-play for anyone still rooting for the superhero genre.

“Dispatch” knows exactly what it wants to be: a narrative management game with emotional precision, carried by strong characters and a main character who, for once, is not defined by superpowers, but by self-doubt and responsibility.

If Dispatch proves anything, it’s that when a project is built with genuine care and craftsmanship, success naturally follows. What first appeared to be a small, modest adventure has grown into something with real potential — a foundation for a franchise that could become both popular and long-lasting, as long as the team continues working at this level.

Dispatch is a magnificent return for the episodic story games. An evolution of Telltale-style storytelling, rivalling their best work, with a great heartfelt story that had me hooked from beginning to end, thanks to its fantastic cast of characters and great animations both inside and outside of the action scenes.
