Darwin's Paradox! has proven to be a genuine, wild, and entertaining adventure. ZDT Studio has succeeded in its goal of creating a game that captures the magic of animated cinema, while also offering some interesting gameplay ideas. Part platformer, part stealth game, part puzzle game, Darwin’s odyssey manages to engage, make you smile, and even make you think. It is, therefore, a title of absolute value, even accounting for a few sections that are less polished than others and a sometimes excessive reliance on trial and error.

Back in the day, you didn’t need a skill tree or RPG mechanics in your platformers. Darwin’s Paradox! sparked up a lot of nostalgia for PS1 platforming classics like Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey and Heart of Darkness because the focus on the core experience. Darwin’s Paradox! is a cinematic puzzle-platformer that spotlights the unique abilities of an octopus because it’s not trying to incorporate elements from nine different genres. Unfortunately, just like most retro games, the adventure lacked emotional investment, but with plenty of variety, excellent pacing and a whimsical world, Darwin’s Paradox! is an endearing adventure that was full of personality. Back in the day a game like Darwin’s Paradox would’ve become a cult classic and it feels destined to become one today as well.
Darwin's Paradox! isn't exactly the game I thought it would be, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Based on references to other games and the project's comedic tone, I expected a title that would make fun of an octopus's unusual movements, but the approach here is the opposite: a fast-paced, simple game with diverse scenarios.

It’s short, yes, but packed with ideas, striking visuals, and moments that feel lifted from a top‑tier animated film. And it pulls off something rare: it makes you care about an octopus so much that you start questioning every past encounter with seafood salads and crispy nigiri. With its slapstick humor, unpredictable pacing, and a protagonist who says more with a twitch of a tentacle than many characters do with full monologues, ZDT Studio’s platformer earns its place among those small gems you shouldn’t overlook. If this is only the beginning, then someone really should leave that door slightly open — because after such a brilliant adventure, a sequel wouldn’t just be welcome, it would feel almost necessary. Even if aliens do NOT exist…

A unique and unconventional experience we had with Darwin’s Paradox, which offered us fun and engaging adventure and stealth elements in a beautiful and mysterious world. Full of charm and humour, Darwin’s Paradox plays out somewhat like an interactive Pixar film. It certainly looks the part, thanks to some gorgeous artwork and animation that adds a layer of polish and charm to the game that just about camouflages some of the its weaker design elements. Fans of the genre will want to get ‘kraken’ with this one.
Darwin’s Paradox is a charming 2.5D action-platformer capable of offering pleasing visuals, brilliant level design, and varied gameplay. Darwin’s adventure is entertaining and driven by clever mechanics and humor, even if occasional frustration arises from trial-and-error sections and imprecise underwater controls. Despite this, it remains a solid and entertaining platformer well worth playing.
