Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Reviews
The latest in a long string of hits for Arc System Works, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls isn't just the next must-have tournament fighter for esports pros, but also an essential offering for Marvel and fighting game newbies alike. Put simply, this is the finest brawler featuring Marvel characters to date, period. Your turn, Capcom.
ARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a fighting game that's hard to explain, and for that very reason, surprisingly easy to love.

Fresh gameplay paired with unprecedented production values make for an all-star pairing in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. An accessible gameplay loop paves the way for impressive depth, hopefully securing this tag fighter's place in the FGC scene for years to come. The dodgy PC port is affecting the crossplay experience at launch, but the PS5 version is flawless and comes highly recommended – with excellent DualSense integration.Meanwhile, the offline experience isn't quite up to the same level as genre frontrunners like Street Fighter 6, but its various comic book storylines are beautifully illustrated and excellently voiced, with writer Keiron Gillen doing a great job with the scripts. This title is a triumph on the PS5, and a reminder that Sony is capable of greenlighting compelling live service games when it puts its mind to it.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is an incredible fighter that captures the high-octane, frantic fun of a superhero battle. Each character is distinct with unique abilities that add personality to every member of the roster.
Marvel couldn’t beat ‘em, and wound up being part of an absolute triumph by joining ‘em.
While many may complain about the fighter selection, stages, and game modes, there's no question that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is one of the most entertaining experiences of the year, and I can't wait to see how professional players take this title to the top at EVO in the future.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is another excellent fighter from Arc System Works, able to capture casuals and veterans alike thanks to a refined, simple control scheme while retaining cavernous depths. Outside of that, it can feel pretty bare bones though, so you better be willing to hop online and put your dukes up.
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is by no means an awful fighting game, but this PC version does it no favours. It’s a game held back by shockingly poor optimisation and performance issues that affect everything from menu navigation to gameplay, and while its core Marvel fanbase might not necessarily care, fighting game players like myself do. It will take some time, but until the developers manage to patch everything up, Tōkon is a miss on PC.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a visually impressive palate cleanser after Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, delivering the kind of style and energy Arc System Works is known for. While the PC version struggled at launch, the PS5 version shows plenty of promise for this new chapter of Marvel fighting games.
While Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls features a deeply complex tag system, Arc System Works incorporates enough newcomer-friendly elements that practically every player can enjoy the bombastic entertainment of a varied Marvel roster beating each other up.
I often struggle to keep up with games due to being an adult and doing adult things, but MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls has unlocked something in me that has me very eager to get back into the competitive circuit and continue to improve.
I’d hoped for more from Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Arc System Works created a gorgeous and well-crafted fighter, but there are too many aspects here that leave me with mixed feelings; the mediocre storyline and slow matchmaking are things I can get over, but issues with the combat system are something I simply cannot overlook. Tokon offers a dozen or so hours of solid entertainment, but it’s really best suited to casual games with friends – it won’t take the fighting game scene by storm.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is a strong fighter that manages to channel the chaotic energy of Marvel vs. Capcom while also carving out its own niche in the genre. While the roster feels small for the kind of game that it is, and the single player offerings feel underwhelming, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls provides a strong foundation on which I have no doubts Arc System Works will build for years to come.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a dream come true for many fighting game fans, even if its nuances can take a while to warm up to. If only the PC version could have received the same love and care as almost everything else.
Despite its limitations, the feeling remains of an intelligently written project, capable of appealing to both the casual player attracted to the license and the veteran looking for a new system to dismantle. It's not yet the masterpiece that the merger between Arc System Works and Marvel promised, but it's a very solid starting point. The rest will depend on the upcoming seasons of support, and on the studio's ability to listen to a community that, it must be said, has already proven receptive since the beta phase.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is an engaging fighting game with many impressive features. Despite some flaws, it accurately portrays several beloved Marvel characters in many ways and makes them fun to control through gameplay that Marvel fans would love.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a striking, very accessible (at first), and incredibly deep fighting game that brilliantly utilizes Marvel's heroes and Arc System Works' expertise. The stunning visuals, excellent 4v4 system, and wide variety of fighters provide plenty of fun, though the campaign could be longer, the roster larger, and the selection of modes even more extensive. However, the foundation is strong enough that with the right support, the game could sustain an active community for a long time.

With all this in mind, we believe Marvel Tōkon is a must-have for hardcore fans of the genre and newcomers who just want to see Spider-Man battle Carnage in anime-style fights. That said, we hope Arc System Works keeps at it and definitively fixes the performance and matchmaking issues.
