Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf Reviews
Planet of Lana 2 improves upon its predecessor in every way, bringing an engaging story to its forefront with puzzles that amaze and excite throughout.
I played the original and didn’t know how they could better it. Amazingly, Planet of Lana II goes one step further. The lore, characters, settings, and puzzles are fascinating, interesting, and a joy to experience. Moreover, the pacing is brilliant, and the core mechanics never outstay their welcome. Accordingly, it is a breath of fresh air, and you must get a copy from the Xbox store!
The peaceful life of Lana and Mui is truncated by an invasion; on a journey as precious as it is relevant, we will have to save both our new adventure companion and our entire community.

Planet of Lana 2 is a beautiful game, with a clear message delivered without softening the edges.
Planet of Lana II triumphs in its world-building as players discover more and more about Lana’s home planet, Novo, and the different factions of people that live there. While I found some of the puzzles to be frustrating, I was so enamored by its story that I found myself wanting to go back for more as soon as the game closed out. Developer Wishfully’s ability to tell a story without any lines of dialogue is unmatched, and if you loved the first Planet of Lana, its sequel is an improvement in almost every way.

Planet of Lana 2 is yet another stellar indie platformer that stands out and is a must-play for everyone into creative-yet-testy brain-teasing adventure titles. Even its "short" runtime doesn't hinder the fact that you'll come out all the more enlightened out of this out-of-this-world (heh) experience.
For me, Planet of Lana 2 lands as a good but not fully transformative sequel. It somewhat expands the best parts of the original, art direction, music, mood, and companion-driven puzzle solving, but it still leaves story impact on the table. I finished it appreciating the craft and enjoying the journey, but not feeling deeply moved by it.
Planet of Lana 2 is a brilliant evolution that expands on its predecessor in every way. With more ambitious puzzles, a vibrant Ghibli-inspired art style, and refined companion mechanics, Wishfully delivers a larger, more mature adventure that clears up the mysteries of its world while leaving us wanting more.

As I said in the intro to this review, you should absolutely play the first game; it’s fantastic, and you’ll definitely enjoy the sequel even more if you do. But, if you’re struggling to find the time for more than one game this weekend, you are absolutely not going to be disappointed by spending a few lazy afternoons running, climbing and swimming your way through Novo in Planet of Lana II. It’s a sequel that takes all the good things about its predecessor and builds upon them, adding new, well-thought-out mechanics and engaging additions to the gameplay, all housed within a breathtaking, captivating world.
The world of Novo is as captivating as ever. The puzzles on offer, enhanced with deeper mechanics are well thought out, and the expanded narrative provides some answers and takes some risks with its story telling. Planet of Lana 2 can’t quite escape feeling a little familiar, but who’s going to complain about more of such a good thing?
Planet of Lana 2 excels at being a more visually and mechanically robust puzzle game with more story and lore to offer than its predecessor. I was in awe for most of my playthrough, hearing the sometimes ominous, sometimes epic, and sometimes serene completing the visual feast on my screen. Its trial-and-error approach to gameplay kept me constantly engaged and wanting more despite some of the frustrating time-sensitive stuff. If the game managed to capture the similar emotional angle that made the original so memorable to me, it would have been a slam dunk. However, Planet of Lana 2 is more than worth playing through to see what Wishfully has in store, and beyond.
Planet of Lana II perfects the formula for the first game, making it one of the best sidescrolling platformers of this generation. The expanded worldbuilding and more complex gameplay is more than enough reason to jump back into Lana’s world.
Planet of Lana 2 is a sequel that understands exactly where it needed to evolve. The scope has grown, the biomes are more varied, the puzzles have gained new layers, and Mui has transitioned from being just a support character to becoming a centerpiece of the experience.

Planet of Lana 2 confirms that Wishfully didn’t need to reinvent anything to give real meaning to the journey begun in 2023. It simply had to listen to what that world still wanted to say. The result is a measured yet intense sequel that expands rather than overturns, finding its strength in visual care and the gentle precision of its storytelling. It’s not a game built on twists or flashy mechanics, but an experience that takes its time to breathe, to watch, and to let itself be watched. When the credits roll, what lingers isn’t just the satisfaction of a well-crafted adventure, but the feeling of having shared a slice of life with two protagonists who once again speak to the heart before the mind. A simple, sincere, and necessary ending that closes the circle with a grace rare in today’s landscape.

Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf is a likeable and soulful adventure like the opening part, but unfortunately it feels more like a first steps for something new than an independent part.

Successfully building upon the first game in every way, Planet of Lana 2 delivers a fascinating and sometimes emotional experience heightened by stunning visual and sound design. The time taken to explore Mui’s backstory and the machine's connection to the world in general is such a welcome addition and only aids in making this feel like more than just a platform game. Fans of the original and newcomers alike will have one heck of a ride, and I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here.
Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf is recommended because it is a sequel in the strictest sense of the word. It expands, improves, and polishes the original concept without taking risks. It is longer, more varied, and superior in terms of gameplay, but it does not innovate much. If you liked the first one, play it.

If I can only give you one reason to buy this game, it would have to be its musical score. Each scene is elevated by a masterful orchestral soundtrack that transforms puzzles, exploration, and emotional beats into something cinematic and unforgettable. While the core gameplay of Lana and Mui navigating puzzles remains familiar, Planet of Lana 2 shines in how it builds and evolves the storytelling.
Towards the end of my journey with Planet of Lana II, I stayed curious as to what happens next. There's a lot more to discover here, and discoveries to be made. A short but sweet game like this often has players longing for more, but I can safely say that this one is worth every minute of your time.
