Screamer is an excellent, high-speed racing experience that takes big swings in controls and game design. The racing feels exciting at every moment, and the big single-player mode gives you plenty of tracks to burn rubber on. Much of the story lands flat or doesn’t have enough juice to cover the narrative’s runtime, but it provides enough of an excuse to keep getting back on track. The side modes are a little shallow, but that’s only frustrating because racing in Screamer is just that much fun.

Screamer is a bold reinvention that successfully merges high-stakes arcade racing with the emotional depth of a visual novel. Its standout feature is a cast of flawed, morally grey characters that drive a compelling narrative, supported by a stunning anime aesthetic. While the track design feels a bit too safe for its innovative twin-stick drift system and the pacing can falter during long dialogue sequences, the game’s sheer personality and technical polish make it a unique and memorable experience in the racing genre.

Built upon the iconic and highly stylish tradition of racing anime, Screamer delivers high-octane, arcade-style racing with intuitive controls and an incredibly dramatic, colorfully cast story about a super-illegal, high-stakes super-race. Undoubtedly, my new favorite racing game of all time, I do not doubt that Screamer, like a shooting star, will fly out past the competition at high speeds and leave a long-lasting memory in the process

This is what the gaming community needs: developers who want to push the boundaries and lead, not follow what has been done before. This one is a must-play for all of you who love arcade racing games; it’s high-octane fun with a mix of classic golden-era gaming and anime.

While it's not the first racing game with an anime aesthetic or a storyline, it's great that developers continue to experiment with this combination of elements. Screamer is a game with a lot of personality and interesting ideas in terms of visuals, gameplay, and narrative, but those same ideas can make the controls frustrating and the difficulty of some races seem insurmountable for some players.

Screamer isn't your typical arcade racer, and that's precisely its greatest strength. In this game, Milestone deliberately breaks away from genre conventions, instead combining racing with fighting game mechanics, anime-style visuals, and a unique blend of gameplay. The result is fresh, bold, and, above all, uncompromising. Screamer is the best arcade racing game of the year so far.

With one of the best campaigns you will ever see in a racing game and a great arcade style of racing, Screamer is one the best racing games we’ve seen this generation. Its flashy artstyle is great to look at and while there is a lot going on with it’s gameplay, once you get a grasp of it, you will wonder why more don’t do dual stick racing.

Screamer takes more risks than usual for the genre, blending driving, combat, and narrative with a very distinct personality. Not everything fits together with the same precision, but when it does, it offers a unique and surprisingly intense experience.

Screamer is a stylish, content-rich, and ambitious racing game that slightly stumbles over its own grandiosity. Narrative shortcomings, combined with a hint of excessive multitasking lower its overall score just enough that it doesn’t quite reach the very top tier in my eyes. Despite these nitpicks, it’s still an enjoyable high-speed racer that manages to carve out something unique in its own market.

Screamer is quite simply an incredible arcade racer, with stellar presentation and gameplay. It’s a rare racer that can hold my attention for more than a few hours, but I’ll be playing this for a long time to come.

While it slightly suffers from a few odd decisions about its default control scheme and the direction of the voice acting (though the acting itself is top shelf), you’ll definitely find the adrenaline rush you might be craving in Screamer. It absolutely oozes quality in almost all aspects. If Mario Kart is too silly and Forza is too serious, this might just be the perfect in-between for you.

Screamer won’t be for everyone. It’s challenging. It’s unique. It’s different. But it deserves your time and attention, even if you aren’t a huge fan of anime.

Screamer is a high-energy reimagining that captures the spirit of the 90s arcade era while offering something genuinely new. The twin-stick drifting and tactical Sync/Entropy management are the most interesting things to happen to the genre in years, rewarding the effort it takes to get a handle on the controls. The dialogue-heavy story pacing is a real drag and the AI rubber-banding feels cheap, but the sharp lighting and hard-hitting soundtrack keep the energy high. If you’ve been waiting for an arcade racer that respects the classics but isn't afraid to innovate, this is worth the effort to master.

Screamer is an amazing game for those yearning for a classic arcade racer with an anime-inspired coat of paint that includes high production values and very deep mechanics that will be hard, yet satisfying to master. A puzzling lack of a proper tutorial, a lackluster narrative despite strong character designs, and uneven track selection bog down the experience a smidge.

Screamer is back - louder, faster, and more aggressive than ever, turning every race into a chaotic spectacle of speed, crashes, and striking anime flair. With an engaging story and a solid driving model, the game has a real chance to stand among the best arcade racers on the market.

Screamer is a colorful, chaotic, fast, and fun arcade racer that manages to pair high-octane gameplay with a surprisingly robust narrative. It’s not perfect—progression is limited, and certain campaign restrictions can be frustrating—but the unique mechanics, engaging characters, and fast-paced races make it a standout in its genre. For fans of classic arcade racing, it’s a title that hits almost all the right notes.

This year's iteration of Screamer is indeed a surprise, dishing out solid racing action for those who miss the good old days of arcade racing that favour some element of twitch like the Burnout series, Blur, and Split Second. It's not an easy experience, even with the driving assists available, but it is definitely catering towards players who just want quick racing without the frills of realism.
