Bubsy 4D comes remarkably close to being a fantastic platformer. The foundation is excellent, and the game remains enjoyable from start to finish thanks to its outstanding movement and solid level design. Unfortunately, nearly everything beyond those fundamentals feels underdeveloped, while the constant self-deprecating humor often makes the game seem embarrassed by its own existence. If you're looking for great movement and satisfying platforming, Bubsy 4D delivers. I just wish it had a little more confidence and substance beyond that.
Bubsy 4D is definitely an improvement over the last 3D outing for the wise-cracking bobcat, but there's still lots of room for improvement. Both the camera and controls will feel like your biggest enemy here at times, and unless you're into speedrunning the experience may feel rather brief.
Is Bubsy finally great? Not really, but he is finally enjoyable. Bubsy 4D can look a bit ostentatious, most of the jokes fall flat, and it has an absurdly short run time, but this is the best the Bubster has ever been. Most people have never taken Bubsy seriously, but maybe they should, as 4D proves there’s real potential in the character if it just had a bit more of that X-factor.
If you had told me that one day Bubsy would be part of the 3D platformer renaissance I, and many others, would've laughed you out of the room. But here we are. It's Bubsy's world once more and we are just living in it.
Bubsy 4D is a good platform game with interesting mechanics. However, the levels are too simple and it's a rather short game, with a very low overall challenge. What will make you return to the levels are the collectibles and the challenging Time Trials.

Bubsy 4D is a loosey-goosey 3D platformer with plenty of silliness on display and it offers oodles of entertaining challenges that make its messy gameplay really shine. I'd even go so far to say that it's the cat's pajamas. 🧶

Thirty years ago, Bubsy 3D was released, and its biggest problem was its inability to keep up with its competitors. Today, thirty years later, and with the series returning to 3D once again with Bubsy 4D, its biggest problem still remains its inability to keep up with its competitors. However, this does not mean it is a bad game like its predecessor; rather, it is a mediocre experience that has its enjoyable moments, such as the platforming and the dialogue writing. Yet, it largely failed to deliver a satisfying level design that lives up to the high standards of platformer games in recent years.

Bubsy 4D is definitely the best game in the franchise. That may not be a particularly high hurdle to clear, but Fabraz did so with ease and raised the bar considerably for any upcoming title to follow. It has a great movement system and finally gives Bubsy an identity that's more than just memes, despite being maybe just a tad too short. It's an easy recommendation for fans of arcade titles and guaranteed to be worth the time for any platformer aficionado.
Yes, you read that correctly – I gave it a 9! Bubsy 4D is a purrrfectly imperfect Bubsy game from people who understand this series on a level I couldn’t possibly, for reasons I cannot fathom. Beyond, of course, nostalgia driven by childhood trauma. Every last part of it is both a celebration of what came before while… Elevating the series to new heights? I originally wanted to give this a perfect 10 for the way it embodied Bubsy so well but I just couldn’t bring myself to do that for something so objectively bad. And yet, being just shy of that figure feels perfect for Bubsy in its own way.
Bubsy 4D is a real evolution for a franchise that truly needed one. Fabraz brought personality, structure, and some creative ideas, but the clunky movement, unpredictable physics, and lack of Portuguese localization take their toll. In a market where Mario Odyssey, Astro Bot, and Donkey Kong Bananza set the standard, being an “okay” platformer in 2026 isn’t enough to find its place in the sun. That’s fine for fans of the bobcat. For everyone else, the bar is set too high.

In my opinion 3D platformers are tough to nail. The ones that do live on and those that don’t, get forgotten about. I think Bubsy will see a short stay, but it’s not polished so much for the long haul. And maybe that’s the Bubsy way. If not for the controller issues I had, it’d be a really fun recommendation for more but for now, I’d probably just give this one to those orange bobcat aficionados.
Bubsy 4D is one of those surprises that pop up when you least expect them. What could have been a simple nostalgic throwback ends up being a pretty solid 3D platformer that’s fun and full of personality.

Much like sausages and ice cream, Bubsy 4D tries to mix together two great things to make something less than the sum of its parts. A good Fabraz game hindered by Bubsy and fun Bubsy dialogue which is hindered by a game designed without much to talk about. A great experience without a doubt, but one that feels lacking in places.
