Overall Replaced is a good 2.5D atmospheric puzzle platformer with combat segments that could have been fleshed out a lot more than what we currently have. The game is extremely gorgeous and the storytelling is great if not a little bit cliché but tastes will vary in this regard. Personally I enjoyed it but just wished that the game would have incorporated some more variation into its formula or spiced things up a tiny bit more while tweaking some of the more frustrating platforming sections. Give this game a go though. It’s well worth checking out and absolutely nails the cyberpunk dystopian world vibe. Just be warned that it might feel a bit slow and frustrating at times, much like some other greats in the 2.5D side-scrolling puzzle/platform action adventure genre.

REPLACED may not break the mould of what it standard within the cyberpunk sub-genre of sci-fi games but it does offer an entertaining story from start to finish with fun combat, stunning visual design and music. Was it the seven year long wait? Maybe not but it’s still a superb debut from Sad Cat Studios and I wish them the best in their next project. Definitely worth scanning through this one as it’s a keeper that shouldn’t be at all…replaced.

Replaced has been a long time coming, and for the most part we’re happy with how it has turned out. The combat and presentation are the highlights here, with incredible animation making every encounter look and feel awesome. A slow opening and generally heavy platforming and exploration can drag things down at times though. As it is, Replaced winds up being worth a play for sure, even if it isn’t quite the next best thing we were hoping for.

Replaced provides a thrilling cyberpunk story that draws you in with its environment. Combat isn’t difficult to learn and checkpoints are generous to help you. The story takes some time to find its groove and connect the dots. It’s an easy adventure to learn and if you stay to the end, there’s a good story waiting for you.

Replaced is an adventure game with a unique charm, an immersive setting, and a story that manages to be both thought-provoking and engaging as it draws us into a dystopia that is as beautiful as it is bleak.

REPLACED stands out for its visual identity and the strength of its atmosphere, delivering a dense, stylish world loaded with meaning. Its narrative, supported by themes such as identity and inequality, remains engaging throughout, while exploration deepens that immersion with compelling lore elements and meaningful interaction. In terms of gameplay, there is a solid and creative foundation, especially in combat, which offers an interesting and rewarding pace when everything works as intended. However, inconsistencies in command responsiveness and some readability issues during more chaotic moments end up compromising the experience, creating frustrations that could have been easily avoided. Even so, REPLACED gets more right than wrong. It is a game built on very well-conceived ideas, and while its execution is not flawless, it still delivers memorable moments.

Replaced stands out for its immersive pixel art visuals and a story with profound social commentary on capitalism and technological ethics. While Sad Cat Studios' debut game offers fluid combat and a memorable cinematic atmosphere that emotionally connects with the player, the experience is marred by imprecise platforming controls, balance issues in encounters, and an uneven distribution of checkpoints. Nevertheless, its solid artistic and sound design compensates for these minor mechanical flaws, delivering an artistic and thematic proposition that distinguishes itself within the 2.5D action genre.

First and foremost, Replaced is stunning to say the least, but what it does in visuals, it heavily disappoints in gameplay. Most of the players time is spent running through large corridors or vents that seem to go on, and on until R.e.a.c.h. drops into a swarm of enemies. Tie that with the constant avoid the spotlight segments and the whole game just tends to drag on. With some chapters being needlessly long or some too short and just padded for no reason. The best examples of this are chapters 2, 4, and 6. When it comes to chapter 2 and 4, R.e.a.c.h. is at the Station and here he can do exactly 2 side quests in each. But to go as far as have the whole area as a chapter seems odd. Chapter 6 however, go on for too long for only a slight sniff of story to be actually meaningful in the last couple of areas. There is a lot that could have been cut down. On the actual combat side of things, it flows okay, but nothing we haven’t seen before. It is mainly there to break up the abundance of running and platforming. It feels as if the story suffers the most in all this, with anything meaningful actually happening until the end of chapter 6 out of 10. I am giving Replaced the Thumb Culture Silver Award. Because Although the visuals are beautiful, it really gets destroyed by the boring and repetitive gameplay.

Replaced is a beautiful game to look at and experience, but it struggles on the gameplay side. It ranges from the simplicity (not necessarily a flaw) of platforming sections to the structural issues of combat. My experience with the game was a mix of love and frustration: moments that made me say “wow” contrasted with others that felt genuinely frustrating. The narrative is engaging, and side quests are a welcome addition, but they too suffer from an overall sense of sluggish pacing. Replaced is clearly designed as a slow-paced experience meant to be savored, and even the character’s movement reflects this. However, this approach may discourage some players, especially since the overall structure and side content can become monotonous over time. Some mechanics and rough edges feel reminiscent of games from the late ’90s. All things considered, Replaced remains an incredibly captivating title that falls short of a higher score due to gameplay shortcomings typical of a debut project. Still, I would recommend it to fans of the cyberpunk genre, they are unlikely to be disappointed.

Overall, I think that Replaced is a game that will appeal to plenty of people. Fans of the genre will find an excellent 2D action platformer game, and anyone who enjoys dystopian fiction or the cyberpunk artstyle will find a gorgeous world with plenty of the genre's staples given a fun (ie depressing) twist. Even if you don't fall into any of these classes, I genuinely think you'll find an incredibly fun game that, granted, doesn't try to change a whole lot, but does everything right.

Replaced isn’t just visually striking; it delivers a strong, well-rounded experience with standout pixel art, an engaging story, and surprising twists that keep you invested until the end. Its cinematic gameplay and excellent soundtrack further elevate the experience. While minor technical issues exist, they don’t significantly impact the overall impression.

Replaced fits its narrative in many ways. The story and visuals are incredible, among some of the best I have seen. The combat tries too many things, but does get credit for trying. The characters feel alive, with history baked into their every interaction. And Reach is a superb main character, a childlike AI forced to be a different type of tool in search of what their purpose is. Replaced has its flaws, especially during combat. But I don’t think those flaws stack up enough to detract from the things it does with a master’s touch. Replaced reaches for the stars, but only ends up hitting the moon. And that’s still pretty good.

REPLACED captivated me from the very start. The visuals set the tone immediately and that is backed up by an engaging story, incredible world, fun traversal and punchy combat. We waited a long time for the game to release, and I’m happy to report that it was absolutely worth the wait.

Reach and his story in REPLACED is an apt one in a time where AI is slowly replacing us, both in every day life and artistically. You’d be hardpressed to find a better looking 2.5D platformer, or one that is as tight and enjoyable an experience as this one. I cannot get it out of my head, and would urge anyone to give it a go.
