The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG Of All Time Reviews
The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time is a wonderfully clever puzzle game. It masquerades as a JRPG, before becoming something much stranger.
The Remake of The End of The Greatest RPG of All Time proves to be a bold experiment, capable of deconstructing the conventions of Japanese role-playing games to create a fascinating investigative adventure with a strong meta-narrative structure. Despite struggling with some structural rough edges, an unfriendly interface and a cryptic nature that can prove frustrating, this title from Coin Drop Games wins you over thanks to its unique identity. Though hampered by a significant language barrier, it remains a digital gem recommended for those who love the most enigmatic and stimulating experiences.

The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time is a fabulous addition to the meta-game genre. I went in as a fan of old-school 16-bit JRPGs expecting a hit of nostalgia, but came away thoroughly impressed by the inception-like degree of layers within layers I unravelled in completing the game. It goes beyond the titular game to explore what makes developers tick, and challenging you to think outside the box for its puzzle, and if the sound of that appeals, then you should definitely give The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time a go. This is destined to be a classic and perhaps one day someone will remake it too…
Nostalgia, game development, and meta storytelling collide in this RPG-themed deduction game.
The Remake Of The End Of The Greatest RPG Of All Time is a fun escape room that merges discovery with combat like puzzles and a fun meta element. I do wish some puzzles had been a bit harder to guess, so I wouldn't have strayed too far though.
The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time is a fun deduction game with a compelling narrative about nostalgia and game design. However, if you find yourself stuck, you’re better off looking for a real guide instead of referring to the in-game one.
The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time is an incredible, unique puzzle game using the skin of a ’90s JRPG to deliver a genre-defying experience that treats the fourth wall like it’s made of plaster. Though it’s short and can have its issues at times, the game is incredibly memorable and worth giving a chance yourself.
Overall, the game was a delightful romp. I think it’s a standout title, and it brings something special and particularly timely to the conversation. In this review, I avoided mentioning anything related to the final act. That said, I would have given this a 3.5/5 (meaning serviceable to the genre and even well done, but not groundbreaking) right until the final 20 minutes of the game, which tipped me firmly into a full 4/5 stars. What happened at the end of The RPG that caused me to remake my score? Well…games are meant to be played and loved, so go find out for yourself.
The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time is more intriguing on paper than as a practical experience, even if its brilliance lies in the fact that it is, in essence, a puzzle. There's a genuine fondness for classic RPGs and all the mythology surrounding them, but, like in Tenacious D's music, the game tries hard to discuss them, but it's just a tribute, one that gets lost in its own idea to the point of becoming just another example of what it mocks.

The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time is a multilayered meta puzzle game in which both the game itself and its meta level are highly compelling. Clues are hidden in a wide variety of ways, and knowledge is frequently recontextualized. Progress is sometimes tied to newly acquired abilities, but even more often to newly gained understanding. The puzzle-based battles are built around an engaging concept and remain fresh through the constant introduction of new ideas and approaches. On top of that, the game features a richly layered meta dimension with developer commentary and more, all of which interlocks remarkably well. Right now, I’m simply happy that I had the chance to experience TRotEotGRPGoAT.

I’m not going to dive much deeper into the puzzles themselves. That’s something you really need to discover on your own. But I will say this: the more I uncovered, the more uneasy I became. Part of that comes from the game’s overall presentation. The developers do a great job capturing this strange, janky atmosphere that constantly makes the experience feel slightly off in an intentional way. But most of the unease comes from the growing realization that there’s something else communicating with me from within the game itself.
The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time is a massively rewarding experience, offering a brilliantly cryptic adventure that’ll really push you to think outside of the box. Sure, it might ask a lot of your patience at times, but between the overwhelming satisfaction of finally cracking its conundrums and the sheer ingenuity of its metagame approach (both in the 2D RPG world and what exists in 3D), it easily stands out as a special experience that’ll definitely appeal to puzzle fans.
As much as I could write much more here about various aspects of The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time, I think the game itself is better suited to convey its message. For me, it ended up being an even bigger surprise because it resonated so well with some of my own experiences, but taken on its own, I still think it’s a box of mysteries with a big heart.
