Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters Reviews
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is a soccer game developed by TAMSOFT CORPORATION and distributed by Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. Following the events of the first game, we once again follow Tsubasa and other iconic characters from the anime, along with a customizable character for the player. Play matches that represent the games that take place in Captain Tsubasa and become part of the story. Improve your character, use incredible skills, and win all the soccer tournaments you participate in. I confess I expected more from Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters. Despite being visually stunning, with incredible effects and gameplay faithfully adapted from the anime, the gameplay doesn't quite live up to expectations. The pace isn't very fluid, especially towards the end of a match, where everyone starts unleashing their special moves and it becomes a general mess. The goal-scoring mechanics are uninspiring, as you have to keep shooting repeatedly, hoping the goalkeeper takes enough damage before you can score. The pauses in the middle of the match to tell the story really annoy me. In short, a game based on a soccer anime might not be as dynamic as I imagined.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters faithfully recreates the series' over-the-top spectacle with a deeper save system and Chain mechanics, though shaky teammate AI and a thin mode selection outside the story hold it back from greatness.

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Challengers is a gorgeous anime football game with a ridiculous story and tons of equally ridiculous ways to score.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is a flashy and extreme soccer game that anyone can enjoy. Though the pacing of matches in the story mode can be a little bit bumpy, the narrative itself, in addition to the satisfying gameplay and solid visuals, makes this an accessible and highly enjoyable sports title – even if you’ve never interacted with the source material.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is a love letter and a compelling arcade sports game for fans of the well-known series. It expands on its predecessor in meaningful ways, such as a much larger roster and deeper systems. The goalkeeper tactical battles and chain system give matches a satisfying pace, while super moves and miracle moments deliver the dramatic highs the series is known for.
The game delivers an updated experience compared to its predecessor, adding a wide variety of new clubs, players, and special moves that now extend beyond shooting to dribbling, tackles, and ball blocks. It also improves the goalkeeper-versus-striker encounters, making the overall experience more enjoyable and distinctive for both longtime fans of the series and players experiencing it for the first time.

Although there are no major changes to the gameplay, the variety of mechanics and moves, along with the story, game modes, and customization, all contribute to making the game a solid and diverse experience.

Captain Tsubasa 2 improves on its predecessor with entertaining anime football and an expansive roster, but its slow Story Mode, repetitive presentation, bland custom protagonist, and limited multiplayer undermine the experience. Faithful manga integration and abundant unlockables make it worthwhile for dedicated fans, though newcomers may find its pacing exhausting.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is a clear evolution of what we saw in RoNC. The game's pace, the replacement of the rock-paper-scissors system with reaction-time-based gameplay, the inclusion of mechanics like the Chain System, and the ability to directly control goalkeepers in shooting duels address many of the previous installment's shortcomings. Similarly, the faithful adaptation of the World Youth arc and the quality and direction of its cinematic cutscenes brilliantly capture the essence of Yōichi Takahashi's work. However, despite all its strengths, the game still suffers from some of the same flaws as the previous title. In terms of gameplay, the imbalance of certain defensive slides is frustrating, and we were unable to test the online multiplayer mode. Despite this, Tamsoft has solidified its position as the developer that has best adapted Captain Tsubasa to a video game in over 20 years.

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is a fun title that successfully captures the anime's action and excitement on the virtual pitch. Gameplay additions make the experience even more strategic, and customizing your own athlete is enjoyable—especially with the introduction of the new position. The narrative is another major highlight, particularly because this marks the first time this specific arc has been adapted for another medium.

"Captain Tsubasa II: World Fighters," like its predecessor, is a treat for fans of the anime or manga. However, players accustomed to traditional soccer simulations will likely find it lacking in enjoyment, as the title deviates significantly from the norm.

Improvements might not seem immediately apparent, but Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is undoubtedly an upgrade over its predecessor. Whether it’s the larger selection of teams (even if a good chunk of them need to be unlocked through the story mode) or the noticeably more fluid gameplay, I can’t think of anything its already excellent predecessor did better. This is pure, absurdist arcade football, a truly unique take on the sport that no other game currently manages to replicate at this level of quality.
World Fighters finally makes the football almost as fun as the fireballs.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters knows exactly what it wants to be: spectacular, fast, and joyfully over‑the‑top. Its rich story content, huge roster, and faithful recreation of every special move make it a treat for anyone who grew up with Tsubasa and his teammates. Frequent story interruptions, limited competitive modes, and a modest cosmetic progression keep it from truly soaring, but it remains a sincere, energetic arcade blast, capable of delivering that wild, impossible football magic only Takahashi can conjure. If you want quick matches, absurd shots, and a youth league where every action can become legend, the trip is absolutely worth it.

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters manages to do exactly what a good sequel should do: evolve the gameplay without losing the identity that made the franchise win over generations.

Overall, Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is a unique and enjoyable title that successfully expands the world of Captain Tsubasa and offers a unique experience from this beloved series by adding new storylines and special moves. While some of the shortcomings in its story and gameplay may not be entirely satisfying, the game is still well worth experiencing, whether you are a new or longtime fan.

"Shonen-style football" Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters delivers an arcade-style football experience that knows its niche, successfully transforming the series' matches into fast-paced, technically brilliant, and showy shonen-style battles. The Chain system, goalkeeper duels, Max Actions, and Miracle Moves add real depth, while New Stars and a wide variety of characters maintain replayability.
