Minecraft Dungeons II Reviews
Minecraft Dungeons II is at its best with a friend. Its item system makes experimenting with gear rewarding, while fluid, straightforward combat keeps the action moving. Late-game freezes on Xbox Series X are frustrating, but they did not spoil an enjoyable co-op adventure.
«Minecraft Dungeons 2» is an entertaining action role-playing game in a magical block world. Compared to the predecessor, it makes pretty much everything better. But despite a more complex upgrade system, the game lacks depth and variety. Fights almost always run the same. Only boss encounters bring variation. My hunger is usually satisfied after an hour.

Ultimately, Minecraft Dungeons II feels like the sequel this particular family wanted. It keeps the immediately understandable combat and absurdly addictive loot chase of the original while adding the systems that make spending an entire evening playing together much easier. The character-building is deeper, movement is more interesting, exploration has more purpose and the co-op experience has been thoughtfully improved.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 has everything it takes to become one of the most entertaining titles in the Minecraft franchise, offering an engaging experience and introducing new features that make combat even more dynamic, fun, and challenging. While repetitiveness may become noticeable after a few hours of gameplay, the cooperative experience helps keep matches interesting, especially by encouraging exploration, build progression, and the hunt for new gear to face the challenges of The Sift.

It’s a full-fledged “more and better” compared to the original, as one of my colleagues noted in his impressions from Gamescom 2026, transforming its “level-based” premise into a vast open world where we have everything at our disposal to tackle it however and whenever we want, within established limits. In addition, the combat and equipment systems—following in the footsteps of the original—have improved upon small details that refine a formula that, while simple, is quite satisfying. Playing it in co-op remains the most fun way to enjoy it throughout the more than 40 hours it can last.

Minecraft Dungeons II is a fantastic example of how to expand upon a successful formula without losing sight of what made the original so appealing. The move towards a connected world is a brilliant decision, jumping gives exploration considerably more freedom, the Sift is a genuinely exciting new dimension and the expanded gear and enchantment systems provide more opportunities to create a character that feels like your own. Most importantly, though, Minecraft Dungeons II remains fun. That sounds obvious, but it is something that can get lost in action RPGs as they become increasingly obsessed with complexity and endgame systems. Mojang and Double Eleven have resisted that temptation here. There is greater depth for those who want it, but the game remains wonderfully approachable for everyone else. And then you add four-player co-op to the mix and the whole thing becomes even more enjoyable. There are some repetitive moments, the occasional difficulty spike and a few areas where the visual chaos can make it difficult to follow exactly what is happening. Players looking for the deepest action RPG on Xbox may also find the systems a little lightweight. But Minecraft Dungeons II isn’t trying to be that game. It wants to be the action RPG that you can play with your family, your friends, your partner or simply on your own after a long day. It wants you to chase better loot, experiment with ridiculous builds, explore strange new places and occasionally forget what you were supposed to be doing because you’ve discovered something interesting off the beaten path. And in that respect, it succeeds brilliantly. Minecraft Dungeons II takes the enjoyable foundations of its predecessor and builds something considerably bigger on top of them. It is more ambitious, more exploratory and more mechanically interesting, while retaining the welcoming personality that made the original so easy to love. For me, it doesn’t quite reach the level of perfection, but it comes remarkably close. Minecraft Dungeons II takes everything that worked about the original and gives it considerably more room to breathe. With a bigger world, deeper character building, a brilliant new dimension and superb co-op, this is a sequel that feels genuinely worthwhile rather than simply bigger for the sake of it. It isn’t perfect, but when you’re sitting alongside friends, surrounded by mobs and fighting over who gets the best loot, it’s very difficult not to have a huge smile on your face.
Mojang and Double Eleven clearly listened to the community, building a more ambitious sequel with larger areas, more equipment choices and co-op as one of its strongest pillars. It does not reinvent the series, but improves exactly where it needed to grow.

Minecraft Dungeons II expands its predecessor’s formula in every direction, offering a vast world, deeper loot and customization, new movement options, and more flexible co-op. The chance to explore Minecraft’s new Sift dimension further enriches the experience. Despite a few minor issues, it remains an accessible and enjoyable action RPG, ideal for newcomers and for sharing with friends and family.

Despite a lacklustre endgame and a handful of minor issues, it’s not hard to see Minecraft Dungeons II as the game the original was meant to be. The combat is flashier, tougher and more engaging. The world is bigger and more cohesive. The character builds are more varied. Most importantly, it all just feels confident. This isn’t merely Diablo with a Minecraft skin, but a fantastic dungeon crawler with a hopefully bright future ahead.
Minecraft Dungeons II an improvement on the original idea, creating a satisfying co-op dungeon crawler that many hours will be sunk into.
While Mojang and Double Eleven may have played it a little too safe with Minecraft Dungeons 2, it is still a very enjoyable game. While the switch to an open world map is quite different, the rest of Minecraft Dungeons 2’s mechanics remain largely the same. They manage to expand on the equipment somewhat, but by and large the sequel plays the same as the first game. If you were hoping for a dramatic evolution in the Minecraft Dungeons formula, you may be a bit disappointed. However, if you were simply looking for an expanded, more fleshed out experience, Minecraft Dungeons 2 will hit all the right notes for you.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 takes undeniable steps forward with a fully interconnected Overworld, much-needed mobility upgrades, and a visually striking new dimension that teases the franchise's future. However, despite a deeper loot system and smart quality-of-life changes, the core experience doesn't step out of its comfort zone quite enough to convert anyone who wasn't already a fan. Ultimately, it remains a highly polished, accessible "Diablo for kids" that existing fans will adore, even if it leaves hardcore ARPG veterans wanting more.
Minecraft Dungeons II may not be a breakthrough in the genre nor offer anything truly breathtaking, but it has enough to provide a very solid and satisfying experience for fans of this ARPG genre, which will go down a treat with both fans of the Minecraft universe and newcomers, like myself, to this world. Although it does have a few technical glitches that detract from the overall experience, and a few other aspects I’d like to see improved, this is a journey well worth completing, whether on your own or with friends and family – from children to adults – a fact further enhanced by its modest price and Day One availability on Game Pass.

I do appreciate this game exists. It’s a Diablo-like game, and it’s kid friendly. It is a better, more in-depth version of the original. I’m sure adults will find fun in this one too, but I wish this game just had some story to get me more invested into it. That being said, Mojang knew the scope of what they were making and priced it appropriately.
When working as intended, Minecraft Dungeons II runs smoothly and plays far better than the first game. The environments are beautiful and thoughtfully designed, and new mechanics to deliver a deeper story were very welcome. However, the grand finale was anticlimactic, the new enchantment system feels like it discourages build experimentation, the titular dungeons are completely optional, and a glaring oversight in the artifact cooldown system flies in the face of the faster-paced combat Mojang was going for.
"A sequel that expands the adventure and adds greater depth to character building." Minecraft Dungeons II builds upon the foundation of the original game, offering a deeper customization system, an interconnected world, more dynamic combat, and a smoother coop experience. Despite some issues regarding combat clarity and vertical movement, the game retains its simplicity and signature Minecraft identity while introducing systems that give players more room to build and develop their characters.

Minecraft Dungeons II turned a reviewer who had avoided every Minecraft game on principle into a believer, thanks to a surprisingly engaging story, a deep gear system, and combat that turns out to be far more than button-mashing.
Minecraft Dungeons II is a huge step up in this spin-off series. The combat and progression systems are extremely engaging with a lot of depth, yet pretty accessible for those jumping into it for the first time.
Minecraft Dungeons II is an accessible, but very simple action-RPG that really shines as a co-op game. The open world, the new dimension called Sift, loot, and bosses add plenty of extra content to the formula, but the game stays true to the first installment. However, it also introduces some new (technical) problems.
