Minecraft Dungeons II Reviews
Minecraft Dungeons 2 adds some mechanical changes alongside a new open-world format, making for a distinctly different sequel. It's a simple, bare-bones ARPG with a strong co-op experience that's currently let down by some technical hitches. Those jumping in at launch will likely be the established fanbase of either the franchise or the popular first Dungeons entry. Anyone else after a deep or challenging ARPG is unlikely to be won over.
The foundation for growth is there, and post-launch support could flesh out an early and precarious offering, but—as things stand—don't expect to spend more than a few carefree evenings with it.

Minecraft Dungeons II is a sequel that set out to be bigger in every way, but forgot that bigger doesn’t always mean better. The open world is convoluted and empty, the multi-level navigation suffers from poorly implemented collision detection, and the story is too simple to hold your interest for long. It’s saved by a huge variety of weapons, an extensive inventory, the stunning Sift, and great co-op. If you have someone to play with, you’ll find a few enjoyable evenings here, but if you’re playing solo, you’re definitely better off waiting for patches and sales.

Like its predecessor, Minecraft Dungeons II’s biggest enemy is novelty, or rather, its eventual lack thereof. Though better equipped for the long run with innovations like its expanded equipment system, connected map, sidequests, new story, new mobs, and an entirely new dimension, the game still falls to the same tired numbers game once the new ideas run dry. This game is strictly bigger, strictly more complex, and strictly better than the original; the bar just wasn’t that high to begin with. There’s no doubt that most action RPG players will enjoy this game. Whether they’ll enjoy it for long is a toss-up.
Minecraft Dungeons II is an action RPG accessible to all types of players that introduces substantial improvements over its predecessor, most notably the shift to an interconnected open world, the addition of the Sift dimension, expanded equipment options, and enhanced boss battle design. However, the title is hampered by drawbacks such as a weak story, inconsistencies in the enchantment system that limit early experimentation with loot, an inadequate dodge cooldown, a repetitive and short-lived endgame, and occasional technical issues.

Minecraft Dungeons II comes highly recommended because it represents a significant step forward from the first game with the addition of an interconnected world, while also introducing “The Sift,” a new dimension coming to the franchise after more than 14 years. It’s a lot of fun whether you’re playing solo, with friends, or with other players on any platform. Although the endgame still has room to grow, the game as a whole works well and offers an accessible experience with plenty of possibilities. It does a great job of capitalizing on the Minecraft universe.

Minecraft Dungeons 2 is a shallow ARPG sequel that provides a few evenings of mindless dungeon delving fun, but not much beyond that.
Where Minecraft Dungeons was a charming introduction to the dungeon-crawler genre, Dungeons 2 builds a deeper action-RPG within the same familiar, blocky framework.
The Sift is a gorgeous and intriguing new dimension for players to explore and learn. Still, that doesn’t stop some of the issues with build crafting and repetitive gameplay from coming up fairly consistently.
Minecraft fans will also enjoy it (if they're young, a little help from their parents is recommended), and even fans of "Diablolike" will find challenges to match in the more demanding parts of this adventure.

Minecraft Dungeons 2 is a great game night idea, but just make sure your party's all gathered under one roof first.
Minecraft Dungeons II is a perfectly tuned sequel, taking everything that the first game got right, and expanding, revising and improving on it.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 is one of the safest sequels on the market today, sometimes to its own detriment.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 has been something of a welcome surprise overall. In an era where the modus operandi for dungeon crawlers is to go many layers deep on complexity and double down on sophistication and complexity, often to the detriment of your own time in ways that don't always feel meaningful or justified, Minecraft Dungeons 2 strips all of that back and is a properly compelling, though perhaps ultimately unspectacular distillation of everything I enjoyed about dungeon crawlers in the first place. Folks that have long been interested in dungeon crawlers games but don't know where to start? You start here.
Minecraft Dungeons II adds depth without losing the approachable chaos that made its predecessor work. The Sift and expanded gear game broaden the formula, while a reduction in start-and-stop co-op menu faffing is greatly appreciated. I just wish its teasing glimpses of an open world went further.
Minecraft Dungeons II is a great example of how to take ideas from the first game that didn't work and retool them into something meaningful and enjoyable.
As good as Minecraft Dungeons 2 looks on the outside, and as inoffensive as it seems, it fails to capture the wonder or creativity of its namesake, much less present a compelling loot-focused gameplay loop. The many steps back that it takes from the original don't help either.
Minecraft Dungeons II is at its best with a friend. Its item system makes experimenting with gear rewarding, while fluid, straightforward combat keeps the action moving. Late-game freezes on Xbox Series X are frustrating, but they did not spoil an enjoyable co-op adventure.
Bigger and better than its predecessor, Minecraft Dungeons II is still very much 'Diablo for Beginners', but that's no bad thing for newcomers of the ARPG genre. A sprawling, open world makes this more engaging than ever, with only the odd glitch and difficulty spike bringing the experience down somewhat.
Minecraft Dungeons II improves on the original without abandoning what made it appealing. The open world provides plenty of opportunities for exploration, secrets, and loot, while the expanded equipment and enchantment systems offer greater flexibility without becoming overwhelming. The shops have improved as well, and combat can be chaotic when playing solo without ever feeling unfair. Players looking for a deeper action-RPG may still find the experience lacking, but those who want a straightforward adventure with a lengthy campaign will find Minecraft Dungeons II to be a satisfying sequel.
