The Sinking City 2 is proof that survival-horror doesn't need to reinvent itself to leave a mark; it only needs a team that cares about what they're building, and Frogwares clearly do.

The Sinking City 2 is ultimately a bold genre shift that mostly pays off. It retains much of the detective-heavy structure of its predecessor without completely abandoning the investigative identity that helped define the series.

Built amidst real-life horrors and evoking eldritch ones, The Sinking City 2 is a sequel among sequels. Though not perfect owing to some implementary bugs and vestigial progression, the game offers mastery across all other aspects that few survival horror games can hope to reach. It is the kind of game that one must experience to truly appreciate, bringing with it the artifice of Lovecraft’s universe and the vision of Frogwares’ dev team. Consider it a game that only the mad would avoid, and one that the horrified would return to.

Stylish and atmospheric, The Sinking City 2 is by no means a groundbreaking or particularly original title, yet it managed to hook me from the very beginning. Its maps are thoughtfully designed, allowing the story to unfold naturally while steadily opening up new areas to explore. The semi-open world is packed with details, secrets, and intriguing locations that reward curiosity. Although the narrative itself is ultimately quite straightforward, the tragic love story between Calvin and Faye remains engaging throughout. As mentioned earlier, the game draws heavy inspiration from the Resident Evil series, and fans of that franchise will likely appreciate Arkham’s unsettling cosmic horror atmosphere. It is unfortunate, however, that a few overused genre conventions occasionally undermine the experience, ultimately costing the game a star.

The Sinking City 2 is a bold genre shift for Frogwares that mostly pays off. The Nightshade rune system and a well-integrated Investigation Space give it real identity, and a drowned Arkham remains a genuinely oppressive Lovecraftian setting. Combat against groups and a stiffer-than-ideal aim keep it from being flawless, but not enough to overshadow what the team achieved under conditions few studios will ever have to face.

The Sinking City 2 will pull you in like quicksand. It may not be a technical marvel, but it has that “something” that can keep you entertained for many hours.

The Sinking City 2 is difficult and pushes you to your limits. Yet every time it sings and embraces the incomprehensible Lovecraftian nightmares, Faye and Calvin’s story brings it all down.

The Sinking City 2 is both a small miracle and a tremendously flawed experience. As a defiant expression of artistry in the face of overwhelming evil, it deserves admiration, even if the finished product isn't an overwhelming success.

The Sinking City 2 is a confident modern survival horror that pairs a beautifully realized, rain-soaked Arkham with excellent atmosphere, responsive gunplay, accessible puzzles, and a surprisingly polished technical state. Enemy variety is limited and some encounters become frustratingly chaotic, especially without proper melee weapons, but Frogwares’ tighter and more focused approach makes this one of the studio’s strongest games to date.

Compared to significantly higher-budget survival horror games like "Resident Evil Requiem" or the remake of "Dead Space," "The Sinking City 2" may not quite reach the heights of the genre's giants, at least technically and in terms of sheer perfection. However, the story, the game world design, and the blend of adventure, action, and horror elements make it a must-play for genre fans in terms of gameplay and atmosphere!

“The Sinking City 2” is an occult treat that isn't meant for the masses. Worms writhing out of eyeballs, narcissistic sirens, and sea monsters offer a welcome change of pace within the genre. Anyone who finds thematic games like “The Chant” exciting and appreciates obvious “Resident Evil” influences will enjoy “The Sinking City 2” (even without prior knowledge).

The Sinking City 2 takes another successful dive into the survival horror genre, with challenging puzzles, an engaging and heartbreaking story, and wildly fun gunplay. I just wish it were longer and a bit more replayable.
