The Sinking City 2 is a survival horror game that clearly draws inspiration from the latest entries in the Resident Evil series, only to carve out its own path under the influence of the unsettling atmospheres described by H.P. Lovecraft. The new installment in the saga created by Frogware is a completely standalone sequel to the prequel, but unfortunately, despite its in-depth lore, the plot tends to lose its way at times, and the narrative’s pacing falters on more than one occasion. The gameplay and puzzles, however, are excellent and kept us thoroughly entertained.

The Sinking City 2 is one of the biggest surprises I have played in a long time. It takes the familiar structure of modern Resident Evil, fills it with a fascinating Lovecraftian world, and gives the nightmare a sincere love story worth fighting through. Frogwares has created a phenomenal survival horror game, and I absolutely adored it.
The Sinking City 2 impressed me immensely. I was unsure at first if I’d like the drastic change in gameplay, but those uncertainties were quickly put to rest. If you’re a fan of Lovecraftian horror, or horror games in general, this is definitely worth a look. Frogwares have stepped out of their comfort zone with this title, and the gamble has definitely paid off! Therefore, The Sinking City 2 receives the ThumbCulture Gold Award!

With The Sinking City 2, Frogwares delivers a very good survival horror that respects the genre's codes and draws inspiration from them without ever betraying its references. What's especially impressive is how the studio managed to achieve such a polished result, particularly given the conditions described above. The studio has the capacity to do great things, and it's reaching a point where we're starting to nitpick small details. The Sinking City 2 is a must-have for genre lovers.

The Sinking City 2 feels like a big step up from its predecessor, offering a gripping survival horror experience that’ll draw you in with its eerie world, haunting atmosphere and satisfying combat. When you factor in the horrific real-world conditions the Ukrainian development team had to navigate to even get this made, the fact that it’s turned out so damn well is nothing short of astounding. And sure, it has its imperfections and the shift to a more traditional modern survival horror game might not be for everyone, but if you want a tense, well-paced horror adventure with fun gameplay and an engaging narrative, The Sinking City 2 is absolutely worth diving into.
Visually, the game is one of its strongest aspects. Unreal Engine 5 creates a convincing, drowning Lovecraftian city, although technical issues, performance drops, and occasional visual problems prevent it from feeling completely polished.
I strongly recommend The Sinking City 2 to any survival horror genre fan. If you aren’t, it’s still a great game to try thanks to its difficulty options. With thoughtful use of music, sound effects, environment, and lighting, it produces a horror experience that doesn’t lean into the jump-scare trope.

The Sinking City 2 is a game that bring nothing new to the table and doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, which can be very disappointing as this title comes from a studio who has always been one of the most unique in the industry. Despite that, The Sinking City 2 is a very well crafted Survival Horror experience that fans of the genre should take the time to enjoy. Its fast-paced gameplay, fun set pieces, and Lovecraftian horror elements allows the title to stand alongside the titans it is derived from.
While it suffers from occasional missteps in combat design and enemy pacing, The Sinking City 2 successfully evolves the franchise into an essential Lovecraftian survival horror experience through its rewarding exploration, brilliant puzzles, and atmospheric, highly detailed world.

The Sinking City 2 is considered a very courageous and bold step from Frogwares studio, and a tangible success in shifting from open investigation to pure survival horror in the footsteps of games like Alan Wake 2 and Resident Evil. The game succeeded in delivering a terrifying and visually stunning Lovecraftian atmosphere, with focused level design and highly enjoyable puzzles. Despite this quantum leap, the game suffered from some design contradictions; most notably breaking survival rules by providing unlimited resources in key encounters, alongside voice acting that did not rise to the level of the story. If you are a fan of survival horror and enjoy dark atmospheres and smart puzzles, the experience offers an enjoyable journey worth attention, even if some of its aspects cracked under the rubble of combat details.

The Sinking City 2 is mysterious, strange, clear, and beautiful all at once. The game has its flaws here and there, but is certainly not below average. Locations and many other elements are reminiscent of other franchises in the survival horror genre. Although I didn't encounter any game-breaking bugs or glitches, the game does have some technical, graphical, and audiovisual flaws. The puzzles are complex and complicated at times, which can occasionally lead to frustration. Otherwise, the game offers a nicely balanced horror element, and the changes in the world are well-developed as you progress through the story. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and The Last of Us 2, all three to a reasonable degree, have gained a little brother. The direction is good, the camerawork excellent, and the story sometimes very surprising and mysterious, yet nowhere do those last elements feel out of place. Only the polish sometimes leaves something to be desired.
