Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass - Part 1: Bubbly Basin Reviews
Lately, I’ve felt little desire to keep playing Pokopia—largely because there is simply too much to do, which left me paralyzed when trying to decide what to prioritize. Bubbly Basin, however, offers a fresh start; returning to a state where the game is more guided, with clear objectives, has been great for revitalizing the experience.

The Pokopia Expansion Pass is off to a solid start with Bubbly Basin, with much-needed quality-of-life improvements, new Pokémon to find, and a refreshing new map to explore. If you've already completed the other towns (or even if you haven't), Bubbly Basin offers something else to quench your thirst. In Bubbly Basin, life is the bubbles, take it from me.
An excellent slice of DLC that, just like the parent game, manages to comfortably exceed expectations, with a large new map and an impressive array of new pokémon, objects, and features.
How did this underwater DLC change everything?
Pokémon Pokopia: Bubble Blub Depths confirms that Omega Force's title is one of the year's best games. This DLC improves upon all the mechanics seen in Pokémon Pokopia and prompts reflection on a future that is as imminent as it is inevitable if we continue to treat our planet the way we do. The decision to set the entire game underwater allows it to unfold across multiple levels and make the most of the most widespread Pokémon fauna: Water types.

In the end, the Bubbly Basin DLC is a straightforward extension of the same gameplay loop that defined Pokopia. But that’s one of its great strengths.

There is a surprising amount of depth, literally, with content that feels fresh - yet familiar. With just how much care has gone into Part 1 of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, it's exciting to see what is in store to round out the post-apocalyptic Pokémon experience. If you enjoy the base Pokopia experience, the DLC is an absolute no-brainer.

The Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass kicks off with a fun and sizeable area you can explore as the Bubbly Basin heads underwater. It's got some great new Pokémon to find, a great new area, alongside new recipes and materials to use. You'll be doing the same things you did before, but it's so much fun to build, discover, and create.
Pokopia has proved once again that it can stand amongst the greats in the cosy game genre with Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass Part 1: “Bubbly Basin”. I’ve already sunk plenty of time into making the Bubbly Basin my own. My restoration project is far from over, and I’m ready to sink many more hours into my Pokopia playtime.
Bubbly Basin is a notable first step for the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass. Its beautiful underwater setting, the freedom offered by Dive, and new building possibilities make returning to its distinct sandbox highly appealing once again. However, its structure feels overly familiar, and its gameplay additions lean more toward iteration than revolution. The free 2.0 update rounds out the return with numerous quality-of-life improvements. While this initial dip may not reinvent Pokopia, it proves there are still plenty of corners in its world well worth rebuilding.

Bubble Blub Backwater is exactly what we expected from the first DLC for Pokémon Pokopia: an excuse to step back into the shoes of Ditto and relive the bittersweet atmosphere of this unique Pokémon adventure.

Pokémon Pokopia: Bubbly Basin is a great excuse to return to the game’s universe. The new underwater region has enough personality to offer an interesting change of pace, there are plenty of new Pokémon, and fans of building will enjoy a wealth of new items and habitats. The free update accompanying its release also greatly improves the game with the ability to dive and several quality-of-life adjustments. However, it’s important to distinguish these free additions from the content actually included in the DLC. Once that distinction is made, Bubblegum is essentially a new region that follows the main game’s formula almost entirely. Despite this, I had a great time during my playthrough and still wanted to keep playing even after completing the main objectives. We’ll just have to wait for the next installments of the expansion pass to see if the package as a whole manages to take things a step further.
