Direct sequels simply don't get much better than Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. With its already excellent predecessor setting the stage, this brilliantly heartfelt RPG is free to tell an outstanding character-driven story.

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is another stellar remake that provides plenty of quality of life improvements over the first game but also tells a fantastic story with plenty of added cutscenes and fantastic voice work. Though the majority of the games exploration and combat haven't gotten many updates, they don't really need to as the Trails games have some of the best combat in JRPG's going right now.

Trails in the Sky: 2nd Chapter is a darn fine RPG and exactly what its title promises: the second half of a two-part game. It doesn't try to reinvent the formula, and its modest combat additions don't substantially change the experience. Instead, its greatest strength is the story, which finally delivers the payoff to Estelle and Joshua's journey and builds toward an exciting conclusion. If you enjoyed 1st Chapter, 2nd Chapter is an easy recommendation. It may not dramatically change the gameplay, but its stronger story, satisfying character arcs, and excellent climax make it one of the standout entries in the Trails series.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a significantly bigger video game than its predecessor, so if you're open to an RPG that can easily take 60-100 hours, you'll find one here that's worthy of your time. I did find the impact a bit muted compared to the tighter 1st Chapter and its focus on Joshua and Estelle as a pair, but Estelle herself does well to carry the sequel with the help of her familiar comrades. Even though 2nd Chapter doesn't bring a lot of new innovations, it runs exquisitely on Switch 2 in both configurations. Certainly, you'd want to play the first game beforehand, but when you're ready for more Trails in the Sky, 2nd Chapter is a great follow-up to the almost flawless 1st Chapter.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is such an excellent RPG follow-up so if you played and enjoyed the first remake, you're bound to fall in love with this freshly remade sequel in all of its characterful good times. 📓
This second installment maintains the same quality as the first remake released by Falcom, featuring a story as moving as few others and impressive graphics. However, the reuse of game areas and dungeons makes the early part of the game feel repetitive, as it holds back all its best features until nearly halfway through.

Deeper and far more complete, Trails in the Sky: Second Chapter is highly recommended for those who played the first game. With gameplay loops, level design, characters, and story at the peak of the genre, Nihon Falcom’s work in bringing these remakes deserves great success—just as with the previous title.

The task of remaking one of the greatest games of all time is a hefty one that most developers would be wise to avoid trying. Despite that, Falcom has put their best foot forward an delivered a near-perfect game that is sure to please any fan of the RPG genre, be they hardcore or casual. While Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter doesn't quite live up to the original game, it's still one of the best RPGs of this generation and should be given your time and attention.
