It might be the kind of experience that only comes around once every few years, thanks to what it offers in terms of a distinctive story, a world rich in detail, and memorable characters, alongside enjoyable gameplay that maintains its quality throughout the experience. All of this prepares the series to be a perfect fit for fans of the genre, and makes it an experience worth the attention of role-playing game enthusiasts in general.

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter’s highs are nothing short of incredible. Once Estelle and company got going, the game never stopped giving and it never stopped letting up. This “part two” has become one of my favourite JRPGs of all time, it blew me away—and both games are fantastic, for newcomers and veterans of the genre alike.
With a meatier amount of content and the impressive visuals that made the 1st Chapter stand out, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter delivers a more solidified RPG experience that’s worth picking up. Exploration is fun, and I keep coming back for more. It’s a great sequel to a great prequel.
Given that the game is a direct continuation and has you explore most of the same areas, the fact that its gameplay systems keep things fresh makes it all the more impressive, and that goes without saying the game is roughly one and a half times bigger than the last one. At the end of the day, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a remake of what many consider the best game in the Trails series. Of course it's amazing.

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a fantastic conclusion to Estelle and Joshua's chapters in the Sky series. The story is smart, with exciting reunions and dark moments that really stay with the player. You get to revisit and actually see the consequences of your past actions, where even smaller side characters are fun to see again. The core cast is as strong as ever, a joy to hang out with. Combat stays fun and engaging, with small tweaks that make it even better than before. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a must-play for those who played its predecessor, and if you haven't, let this month's launch serve as a reminder to play 1st Chapter so you can experience 2nd Chapter properly.
Second Chapter did everything it needed to do, and more. While the game doesn't refine or add new combat mechanics, the story and character moments that take place in this follow-up are some of the best of the series.
Like 1st Chapter, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a remake made by a team that clearly shows love and reverence for the original game, and genuinely enjoyed making it. The second arc of Estelle’s journey is still an experience with noticeably higher highs and lower lows than its first, but those highs are truly incredible. While I do have a modest amount more complaints, both with the remake and Sky’s second chapter in general, they end up feeling more like nitpicks overall in the grand scheme of things, and I had a blast revisiting it in full 3D. It delivers on a lot of what 1st Chapter set up, with some of the most emotionally compelling character arcs in any RPG I’ve ever seen. While I am still somewhat partial to the tighter and more reserved way the original Sky SC was handled, this is still a great way to experience this game and story that are very near and dear to my heart.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter proves that a great story can remain powerful even when you already know how it ends. Rather than simply placing a classic narrative on top of modern visuals and systems, the remake carefully reworks its gameplay to fit the setting and technological level of its era. While some environmental visuals fall short and playing the first game is almost essential to fully appreciate the story, its compelling character growth, thoughtful worldbuilding, and refined combat make it an excellent example of how a remake should be handled.

Estelle and Joshua’s story remains thoroughly engaging and compelling, while the clean, intuitive UI and refined gameplay systems deliver an experience that feels remarkably close to the definitive form of Falcom’s signature JRPG formula.

A second remake that surpasses the memories of the original has been introduced. Estelle's journey to thwart the Society's conspiracy and find Joshua is depicted in a manner befitting the year 2026, perfectly conveying the emotional resonance of the original game along the way. The combat has been implemented to be more challenging and thrilling, specifically targeting players who have experienced the previous title.
