Arkane offers a strong reboot to the lapsed IP that is both mechanically and narratively refreshing.

I thoroughly recommend Prey, particularly to those who even remotely enjoyed Dishonored or BioShock – there's plenty here that will attract attention. It's a great game.

Arkane Studios' Prey is a master class in the immersive simulation, and perhaps its breakout title for this generation of consoles.

Prey's greatest success is its approach to choice and exploration. For players looking for a direct and focused single player shooter experience, this will undoubtedly disappoint and perhaps even frustrate, but for players looking for a smart and immersive world rife with intrigue and tension, Prey is a quality companion for some true classics.

Sci-fi survival horror can have a been-there, done-that vibe but Prey manages to add another worthy entry to a genre that has seen its fair share of titles. Thankfully, the game manages to strike a good balance between action and tension while weaving a narrative that encourages you to discover what's next. Certain aspects of combat can feel clunky and loading times can be annoying given all the backtracking you need to do. Overall, though, Prey is a pulse-pounding addition to the survival-horror genre.

Prey is mildly limited in scope and replay value, but everything that is there will hook players almost immediately. In terms of quality over quantity, Prey made the right trade off.

PREY continues the hot streak of big releases in 2017. While not flawless, this title offers an incredible sci-fi story about paranoia and the self, while sprinkling Arkane's always excellent gameplay on top. While things like the psychic powers fail to justify being in the game mechanically, the creative weapons and multiple gameplay approaches help to make the exploration of Talos-I really shine. Between the rewards for searching through the environments, and the fact that the game is a visual treat, a venture through this deteriorating Cold War-era space station is definitely worth your time.

Prey is one of my favorite games of 2017 so far.

If you prefer games that allow you to run and gun through a linear story then this isn't for you, but if you like to experience a game at your own pace and in your own way, you can't go wrong with Prey.

Prey gets a lot of things right, but it has a few technical hiccups and some balance issues that keep it from being a truly stellar experience. Let's hope we see some improvements in the next Prey.

Coming into this game expecting maybe an above average alien shooter, I was actually really impressed. It has the makings of a BioShock or System Shock while keeping it fresh with new abilities and full exploration to play how I wanted. The horror elements are there and work well, and while the story isn't the best out there, it is enough to keep people playing. If you're looking for a new horror game or even a game much like Dishonored where freedom to do what you want is the main crux, Prey is the game for you.

Until such time that System Shock 3 may challenge it, Prey is the follow up to System Shock 2 in everything but name. Arkane reaffirm their commitment to ‘immersive sims' in impressive fashion.

Prey gives you all the tools you need, but allows you to decide how to get to your goal. The fear is constant, as is the joy from getting to safety. Despite a largely forgettable main story, I'll remember my own experience in Talos-1 for some time.

Prey is a game that meshes together a variety of ideas into a game that rewards exploration and experimentation and provides players with a fun toolbox with which to do so.

Writing over our memories of the Prey that preceded it, Arkane Studios' game is something new and yet strikingly familiar. There's a great deal of kinship to the likes of Bioshock, Half-Life and other classic games, but it's also broader and more expansive in what it tries to do. Regardless of its flaws and similarities, Prey manages to be an enthralling science fiction adventure.

Rather than simply aping the superficial elements of its influences, Prey gets down to the core of what made them great and adds its own imaginative flare for good measure. While I may not remember its convoluted and potentially meaningless story, and can't forget soon enough its incredibly long load times on the PS4, I will always remember Prey's intricate level design, layered combat and the joy I got from exploring Talos I. Hopefully the day comes when I can say the same about Talos II.

Prey is a collection of past influences - a bit of System Shock here, some Bioshock there, a bit of Dead Space - but the whole is something we don't get very much these days. With the twisting halls of Talos I, Prey gives you meaningful choices in your abilities, as the level design challenges you to find interesting ways forward. The game falters in combat, but overall, Prey is a wonderful love letter some older titles that are sorely missed.
