Amassing an army of allies and managing your progression is a blast, giving you enough incentive to keep going through the less compelling parts
Byzantine battle systems and sluggish pacing will keep the mainstream at bay, but an epic adventure awaits serious Japanese RPG players
You may gnash your teeth and hang your head but Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will earn your love all the same.
A wide-sweeping game with an ambitious story, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 offers up an intriguing world to explore. Unfortunately, confusing map markers and a padded-out combat system make actually exploring more of a chore than is necessary.
I enjoyed my time with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 a great deal, but it saddens me that I only enjoyed it a great deal. I honestly can't believe that a studio of Monolith's size and prestige would somehow miss that its narrative is rife with tonal inconsistencies, and leave me wondering whether I was playing something serious.
If you still needed a reason to buy a Switch, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is it.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is an excellent JRPG with a truly extravagant open world begging to be explored. Its in-depth battle system and impressively paced narrative help to deliver a smooth experience, despite its massive run-time.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of the best JRPG that we've seen in a while due to its superb art design, its OST and a great story. A must have.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of those RPGs that I didn't want to end. Luckily, there is enough post-game content to satisfy players looking to sink 100's of hours into more adventures with Rex and the party. However, I can't seem to shake the feeling that I was left with as the end credits rolled. I feel like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 showed me what it's like to go on a real adventure and it happens to be one that I don't think I will ever forget.
The true sequel to the best-loved contemporary JRPG is unrestrained in its ambition, and the result is a chaotic kind of brilliance.
Nintendo Switch can finally boast a great JRPG within its remarkable roster. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a game that every fan of the genre should play. There are some minor flaws, such as the great chaos ensuing during some battles, but the combat system is deep and rewarding, and the story and the characters are great. Well done, Monolith Soft, well done.

It’s clear that there has been no compromise in what Monolith Soft had envisioned for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and, given that we have had to wait for some time each generation, to have the chance to explore such a remarkable world so soon after the Nintendo Switch arrived is an opportunity not to be missed, and a cataclysmic close to the portable home console’s first calendar year. Sweepingly epic in every way imaginable, this grandiose adventure is quite simply an unforgettable experience. And, with that, the fate of Alrest is now in your hands.
In some ways a backwards step from its immediate predecessor, but this is still a fascinatingly complex Japanese role-player with the best open world since Breath Of The Wild.
XC2 puts forward a strong message of what the Switch is capable of. Providing a full JRPG experience, in tandem with lush visual and audio design both on the go and at home, it sets the bar for future games to grace the system; and it sets it high.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 isn't a bad game by any means, but it's one that only die-hard JRPG fans will love.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a standout RPG that manages to keep its story, combat, and exploration interesting over the course of at least 70 hours of adventure through an impressively varied and rich world. Getting from place to place can be confusing, but outside of that and a multi-hour progression roadblock near the end this is an excellent game full of tough, memorable battles and a positive message.
Like a great novel or a TV show that you're binging, you'll start to think about Chronicles when you're not playing it. You might even dream about it.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the third and final gem on the Nintendo Switch crown for this 2017, after Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey: it tells a moving story with easy to love characters and, most of all, mixes a great combat system with an amazing sense of discovery.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 doesn't disappoint expectations: endowed with a massive longevity, characterized by a living and fascinating world and conducted on the wings of a narration with fabulous, exciting tones, the latest born in Monolith Soft house is an unmissable JRPG. Despite some technical hesitation and certain little edges in the gameplay it's impossible to remain indifferent to a job of such scale and quality.
