Rogue Troopers Redux is a well-made remaster, it offers a look back to how we use to play games and shows the way cover mechanics evolved
The story is a gem, and it’s worth playing through just to see what happens to Rogue and co, but the desire to replay any levels on a harder setting is just not there. Quirky controls (at the risk of being kind) and guns which lack both a decent feel or noise rob the game of a lot of impact. Sadly, Rogue Trooper Redux feels its age.
Overall Rogue Trooper Redux, even with the overhaul, is very hard not to see as a game trapped in its original time. If you have great deal of nostalgia for the original, and don’t mind the possibility of your rose-colored memories being ripped away, it will probably be worth giving a look. Since, for the moment, there aren’t any games of this kind on the Switch people who are ready to start killing may find it to be a good fix as well. For just about anyone else I’d say they’d need to think it over carefully as it isn’t, for the most part, up to modern genre standards.
Rogue Trooper Redux is a nice throwback to an era that’s long since passed, but despite its updates, is still held back by the limitations of the original design. Though, I can’t discredit the mechanics and systems throughout the campaign, and the updates done to bring it to the modern era. It does not look like a PS2 game by any means. If you haven’t played it before, it is worth seeing the innovations and mechanics that this carved a path for others to follow. Now, I would rather have seen a sequel, but I think the sales of this are likely to justify whether that cliffhanger ending is worth following up on.

If you like to go solo there's definitely fun to be had with Rogue Trooper Redux. It's a time-capsule dressed up real pretty, and sometimes it's nice to take a look back and see how far you've come
Overall Rogue Trooper: Redux is an alright package, it presents the game in a way that's satisfactory for the current time.
"This Redux was really just one of the least-needed things of the year, or decade even. The updated graphics are hardly an update, and the dated, clunky gameplay is just not fun to experience anymore."
Rogue Trooper Redux is good dumb fun, if you don't go in expecting too much you won't be disappointed.
The lingering question is why does Rogue Trooper Redux exist, then? The chemical-blasted wastes of Nu-Earth are a dull place to survive in, and, aside from some surprisingly strong mechanics, it’s hard to ever summon enough enthusiasm about a game that has been antiquated compared to what we now expect from today’s games. That means that it is a game that is best left to fans of the comic strip, leaving us with the hope that it is part of a grander plan that Rebellion has prepared to see the one-man army return to gun down his enemies in a more modernised take on the genre.

Rogue Trooper Redux is an example of why remasters are not always a good idea.
The Wii version of Rogue Trooper had much better controls, the graphics fit the animations and is still the best way to play out the Quartz Zone Massacre. Rogue Trooper Redux on Switch is an unpolished mess with technical issues and looks horrible docked and in portable mode. The new model's rigs cause extensive clipping and makes character anatomy do all sorts bizarre contortions and twists that are just painful to look at. The limits of old hardware made the developers be creative with their modelling and consider more carefully how they would be rigged. All of that is thrown out the window in favour of technical advancements... not artistic advancements. While it is playable, expect a very sloppy version of what was already a run of the mill third-person shooter.
That being said, the hectic 13 missions remain a fun romp to get through. The campy story and amount of upgrades only elevate what the developers tried to pull off. Rogue Trooper requires a more aggressive gameplay style than I remember, but I can't really say that I'm bothered by it.
Rogue Trooper was an anonymous third person shooter back in 2006 and it still is today. Even if the game is visually good, especially compared to the original release, the game really shows its age gameplay-wise.

Rogue Trooper Redux Polishes Its War, But Keeps Some Baggage
When all of the parts are added together, it becomes apparent that Rogue Trooper Redux doesn't quite meet the standards of modern day gaming.
Every time you copy something it becomes less like the original.
I get the feeling that Rogue Trooper was once an average game that had a few neat ideas. The problem is that it's now 2017, and nearly all of its ideas either don't work properly, or have been improved upon everywhere else. Rogue Trooper Redux is a perfect remastering of a game that shouldn't have been remastered.
A solid remaster/remake/whatever-you-want-to-call-it of what was at the time, a pretty fine shooter. Rogue Trooper Redux represents fantastic value for money, even if it hasn't quite managed to stand the test of time.
