Mario Tennis Aces is awesome and a must-have if multiplayer experiences are your thing. It blends silliness with seriousness really quite brilliantly, and is a testament to Nintendo's efforts within this space. No one else would ever even comes close.

A surprisingly challenging tennis title with a great story mode and multiplayer part, but sometimes playfully overloaded.

Mario Tennis Aces has fantastic gameplay held back by barebones content and not much customization.

All in all, Mario Tennis Aces offers up plenty to keep single players busy, but playing with friends takes everything the game does well up a big notch. It was so much fun playing 2v2 doubles with the Twinfinite staff in preparation for review.

Mario Tennis Aces gives the arcade tennis series a massive injection of depth, turning this family friendly sports title into a tactical, fast-paced chess game that is a thrill to play against other people. Its depth is well explained in a limited story mode that has some interesting ideas, but it's a tougher sell if you're not looking to lose yourself in hours and hours of online play.

Despite some original minigames and clever boss battles, the story mode falls short, since it strictly serves to teach the new gameplay mechanics. Mario Tennis Aces introduces "zone" tricks that prove both spectacular and powerful, offensively as well as defensively, thus creating a singular, radical timing approach to tennis, yet rather adequate for such competitive ambitions online. However, more risks should have been taken, particularly through the evolution of the double tap system in order to play closer to the lines, and increase the errors potential, which would add not only consistency, but also authenticity. Therefore this episode reaffirms the series' legendary accessibility underlined by the discrete motion mode ' la Wii Sports, a classical ace of conviviality on the whole from Camelot.

Mario Tennis Aces is the definitive series entry. Camelot has firmly established what it means to Mario-ize an already solid tennis foundation.

Colorful, intuitive, deep and incredibly fun, Mario Tennis Aces is truly something for everyone, from casual newcomers to seasoned hardcore gamers. You'll certainly love its unique arcade soul and its rewarding gameplay (especially in multiplayer), yet you'll also regret its disappointing single player components.

It’s beautiful, it’s polished, and it will likely be a smash hit for anyone who’s been waiting all these years for a complex and challenging Mario tennis game.

Mario Tennis Aces isn't a terrible game, but is a forgettable one. Online doesn't work consistently, Adventure mode is pretty boring and uninspired, and there is a smattering of content. The game just lacks the heart that Nintendo titles have, and this leaves us with a bland and forgettable game that doesn't do anything interesting. It's not bad if you are just looking to get some friends or family together to play a few matches, but don't expect the appeal to last much further than that.

Overall, Mario Tennis Aces is a decent game. It's not great, but it could be with some tweaks here and there. If you're looking for a decent new multiplayer game to add to your Switch library, it's certainly worth a look. Unfortunately, for the content offered, $60 is a bit much. It felt like Nintendo was really trying to stuff in some extra modes to warrant that price tag, but I don't think it feels like a complete package. Its core gameplay is fun, but I would wait for a sale.

Mario Tennis Aces features excellent gameplay, a solid single-player mode, and a lot of fun characters, but its at its bets in multi-player. There are some annoying issues, but even at its worst, Aces holds serve.

Despite all of its glaring short comings, Mario Tennis Aces is close to something great. If the core gameplay was balanced, it would earn a 4/5 despite a lackluster single player campaign and terrible UI. Future updates could make the game great, but right now Aces is like a talented professional too lazy to put in the work needed to crack the Top 30.

Not quite an ace, but a respectable new addition to the series, multiplayer mayhem saves a disappointing single-player mode.

Things do pick up once the matches get serious. The variations in each level are a great change of pace, and cycling through the power moves and special shots can be really satisfying once you built up the dexterity and reflexes to pull them off. It's just such a shame that you have to skip through so much of the game just to play it. When I actually get to play Mario Tennis Aces, I really enjoy it. But it lacks the luster of that high quality Nintendo shine.

Overall, Mario Tennis Aces just feels lacking in ever sense of the world. Lacking real tennis rules, basic quality of life options, series staple characters, and really any personality at all.

It's the best of Mario Tennis and Wii Sports motion tennis rolled into one game, but in distinct and very seperate modes, it just lacks one thing: being able to play a proper set of tennis.

Mario Tennis Aces is without doubt the best tennis game to come out in the last five years. It's another must have game for Switch and a testament to how this console allows games to excel both in front of the TV and on the go.
