The bright, flashing lights - and admittedly catchy thumping club music - coupled with an eye-watering amount of modes and game/bot customisation isn't quite enough to dress up what essentially feels like a promising idea that's vastly undercooked. A little more time in the oven - and with a more appetising and interesting main course - and Disco Dodgeball could have been a much stronger option on the small, but rapidly growing menu of online-focused games for Switch.

In the competitive world of online multiplayer, a game must be special to stand out from the crowd. Disco Dodgeball Remix stands out for all the wrong reasons. It proves itself to be a nice idea stretched to breaking point and beyond. I played it, so you don't have to.

Still, though, there are plenty of opportunities where you'll enjoy this game. With friends it's a blast, probably even better while drunk. That sounds like I'm damning it with faint praise. I'm not. It's the perfect little party game for you to crack open when you've got 15 minutes to kill pre-gaming or just fancy an LSD-inspired palette-cleanser. What it isn't is a game that you'll sink hours and hours into, or one that will build up a hugely popular competitive scene that breaks the bank all around the world. This isn't that game, which is fine. Not every game can be a Rocket League-style success. This is Disco Dodgeball Remix, a slice of silly fun – even if there isn't much of it to go around.

Whilst it's not quite the next Rocket League it's still a rather good arena-based team game that's easy to drop into and play for short periods.

For the faults you can find with Disco Dodgeball Remix, there's a lot of fun to be had as well.

Don't let the playful concept fool you, Disco Dodgeball Remix is no joke and should not be overlooked. Gameplay is fun, fast, furious, and more balanced than most AAA shooters. The game offers a ton of content for both multiplayer and single player gamers.

Disco Dodgeball Remix has a flair of its own and it features a visual and audio environment that are pretty unique. It doesn't fully live up to those standards, though, as the game's experience with the multiplayer component ends up feeling short due to a lack of online opponents and to a control system that needs more work.

Overall I loved Disco Dodgeball Remix. This wacky FPS dodge ball game keeps the fun coming with various game modes, high intensity music, and extremely entertaining gameplay. Although the art style looks a bit childish, it works for this game. Disco Dodgeball is a great game, and if you pre-purchase the game in the Nintendo eshop you can get the game for 20% off!

Disco Dodgeball Remix is a fun and competitive multiplayer game. In my opinion, it takes some skill to get very good at it to which I can say I need more practice.

If you love old-school shooters like Quake and Unreal Tournament, and miss the barbarism of middle school gym class, this is the game for you.

With everything said, Disco Dodgeball Remix remains a fun game at its core. While it does have some pretty strong problems to own up to, it has the potential to be a fun game for killing time.

An odd combination of automatons and a reflexive sport turns out to make for a pretty fun and addictive experience, overall. Disco Dodgeball Remix on Nintendo Switch doesn't quite have the player count necessary for a truly chaotic time online, but more than makes up for it with competent AI foes, a boundless list of modes and parameters to choose from, and sufficient offline options to enjoy.

With a game both simple in its execution and deep in customization and unlockables, Disco Dodgeball Remix offers an interesting new way to enjoy online FPS gaming, at least in short bursts.

Where Disco Dodgeball Remix lacks in creative map design, it more than makes up for in just how engaging its core gameplay is. Lobbing around dodgeballs at the opposition is incredibly addictive as balls fly all around the screen. Matches are encouraged to be fast-paced and respawning occurs relatively quickly. It's easy to jump into any match and have fun while losing thanks to just how quickly everything moves. The alternate game modes do a fantastic job of adding some much needed variety, but the main goal of throwing dodgeballs around is never lost. Disco Dodgeball Remix could have benefitted from some more thoughtful maps, but it's nonetheless an addictive take on the first-person shooter.

Disco Dodgeball Remix is a fun, fast-paced and very addictive game which I had a lot of fun experiencing for this review. The game has a lot to offer when playing online and offline, and the experience can be tailored for players of all skill levels. The trophy list is certainly challenging and will probably make this one a rare Platinum trophy, but if you persevere and have a proper amount of patience, you will surely prevail. I hope you enjoy this one as well!

Despite those small issues, I can see this game developing a strong core audience that will play it for quite some time to come. It's simply too groovy, colourful, and cheerful to resist.

Multiplayer is where the mileage of this game is, and if you can get into this with friends, it can be glorious. Otherwise, it's a really funny concept that might only hang around for a night or two of laughs. That's totally fine, especially because the name Disco Dodgeball Remix is still humorous by its very existence.

Disco Dodgeball Remix may look like a goofy multiplayer sports game and it is.

In the end Disco Dodgeball Remix is unapologetically what it is, for you to take it or leave it, and I respect that. In terms of total content and options for play both alone, with a friend, or online the game is absolutely stacked. Exhausting the Arcade and various Challenge modes will take time for people who enjoy chasing leaderboards and with so many varied arenas and play modes online matches are generally surprising and crazy. There's no getting around its quirks, and if you're expecting pinpoint precision control you'll be disappointed, but if you're up for some chaotic play that's very unique Remix has its charms.

Although I initially found the movement and aiming to be a little frustrating, the game was a heck of a lot of fun once I got used to it. There are so many different modes and arenas that we didn't find it repetitive at all and there truly is a mode that should appeal to every style of gamer.
