While its premise is absurd, Sushi Striker's core action/puzzle mechanics are undeniably fun and initially addictive. It wears a little thin though, with the campaign becoming laborious well before it comes to an end. Thankfully the multiplayer is superb, and is a perfect fit for both the 3DS and the Switch.

Sushi Striker is pure ridiculous fun, and while it leans heavily on its core gameplay loop, it manages to keep things engaging. Nintendo has proven they have a knack for the absurd, and Sushi Striker definitely feels like it could be the foundation of a new series.

A pretty good puzzle game without new ideas, but fun after all.

Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido is a crazy, over-the-top experience that gets better the more you play. The game feels incredibly polished, with a mostly satisfying battle system that gets surprisingly deep, and beautifully presented cutscenes that progress the story along nicely. The focus here is definitely on the lengthy campaign, although we can imagine top online players becoming intensely competitive with practice. It might not be able to completely blow you away, but our playthrough has left us with a pleasingly satisfying aftertaste. Make sure to give this a go if you're intrigued.

Sushi Striker: The Way of the Sushido has all of the trademarks of an inventive Nintendo title, including its odd but bold story, memorable characters, and easy to pick up gameplay. Unfortunately, once you bite into it, the experience isn't as developed as it could have been. There's an attempt to expand on the action-puzzler format, and while some of the choices work, there are some ingredients that make the entire meal less than satisfying.

If you are looking for a charming and damn right silly plot, and you don't mind paying a little more for your puzzle action to have it on the Switch, then I feel you will certainly find a lot to like with Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido and its captivating bizarre world of sushi eating puzzle combat.

As wacky and zany of a concept that Sushi Striker is at first glance, it's surprisingly addictive puzzle mechanics and pick-up-and-play nature make for a well-made gem of a title that one shouldn't ignore.

While the price may be a bit steep for some right now, Sushi Striker is one of the best Nintendo Switch games out there right now simply thanks to the fact it fires on all cylinders and lands every shot. As someone who doesn't have much love for sushi in real life, Sushi Striker is a really special game that should be rewarded for its original and high-quality presentation, a unique world filled with depth and brilliant and fast gameplay that meshes instinct with strategy and puzzle solving. Nintendo has delivered yet another incredible experience that only the Nintendo Switch can offer.

Sushi Striker The Way of Sushido is a frantic and fun action puzzle game that catches up with Puyo Puyo Tetris and Battle Chef Brigade in the circle of the best puzzle games available for Nintendo Switch. It's expecially good in portable mode and in short bursts.

Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido is an unexpected beauty held back by preconceptions and what is easy to consider an unreasonable price tag. The variety of difficulty paired with a well-polished gameplay experience goes a long way in putting forward something worthwhile and memorable. Add to this a simplicity and recognisable core as well as an inviting design, and you have something to be enjoyed by anybody fortunate enough to pick it up.

Despite its engaging story and charming characters, Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido undergoes a significant setback when you take its gameplay and controls into consideration. It has a good amount of flair to appeal to different kinds of players, especially those who are also anime fans. But in the end, it comes down to being just another matching puzzle game with tiresome controls at its core. As a side note, one major impression that could be taken from the game is how delicious sushi can be. Therefore, like Musashi, I am also thinking about trying sushi for the first time.

Aside from its minor control issues, Sushi Striker is a welcome addition to my growing Nintendo Switch collection and I'm sure it will be for many others. I can't wait to get back to it, but first I'm going to go pick up that sushi I ordered.

Sushi Striker overall is solidly made and had me addicted to its simple yet challenging battles. It's a game that allows anyone to play in whatever manner they choose. This is definitely one game that I would recommend to anyone looking for a fun and fresh adventure… just try not to play on an empty stomach.

Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido hasn't released to amazing sales in Japan and it's a shame because it's such an entertaining game. It might seem like a hard swallow at full price and at first glance, but there's an incredible amount of depth and content that you won't regret the buy. I'll be returning to Sushi Striker again because I love its creative wonder, and I think you will too. Try the demo out, at the very least.

SCORE 8Its premise may border on ridiculous, but behind its wacky veneer, Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido hides an expansive package. Despite its short runtime, there's a lot of charm packed into its campaign, and plenty to do once the credits have rolled. The easy-to-learn, hard-to-master control scheme ensures it's accessible to everyone, whilst the replayability and multiplayer (including a function that allows two players to use the same console in tabletop mode) solidify its place as a consistent pick-up-and-play staple for the Nintendo Switch library.
