Sakurai did what seemed impossible and created the Super Smash Bros. game that all fans wanted. It has hours of content for single player, a great multiplayer experience and a fast paced combat that competitive players will love. Sadly, its online is far from perfect.

World of Light maybe overstays its welcome, but it's an enjoyable ride through an array of matches. The oodles of extra modes are great alternative ways to mess with the characters and history. But the core of what matters with Smash Bros. is the local multiplayer, and it is still one of the best party games out there, bar none. Ultimate's inclusion of all the playable characters from the series history—as well as several dynamic new characters—along with most of the stages and music makes it a must-have multiplayer game for the Switch.
This won't work nearly as well as a party game as some in the Smash Bros. series have in the past, but nonetheless this is a genuinely impressive fighting game with a nearly overwhelming amount of content that's going to make the more serious Smash Bros. fans very, very happy.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is an impressive package to say the least.
Arrived with the arduous task of closing the second year of Nintendo Switch's life, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate immediately showed how much work has been done on quantity as on quality: the offer is sensational, with 74 (74!) playable characters and over 100 arenas to fight.

All in all, Smash Ultimate is a true celebration of the most iconic games in history. With the magical music, the biggest roster of brawlers ever, and more modes than you could have dreamed of, it's time for Smash on the Switch. You do this on over a hundred different and balanced battlefields with up to eight players who all sit with a smile on their faces due to the addictive gameplay.

A mass of game modes with an unimaginable number of options. Very good online and enjoyable playing on one screen. And on top of that, an avalanche of nostalgia.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is without a doubt the best title of the entire Smash series. Unbelievable amount of content and attention to detail definitely solidify the word "ultimate" in the game's title. You'll enjoy this game both alone and with your friends. If you've got ambition to become a world champion, Smash Ultimate will give you a playing field to do so, but the rest will be up to you.

I could go on, but the point remains: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is clearly an essential part of every Switch owner’s library. Complaints come down to mostly nitpicks, but the dazzling cast of characters, splendid stages, multitude of multiplayer modes, and much more are just as addicting as the core gameplay around them has been since the series’ genesis back in 1999.
With each new release in the Super Smash Bros series it gets bigger, more complex and even more beautiful.

Ultimate is a great fighting game that improves everything the Wii U version did right, but things like the way you unlock the characters can sometimes feels like a chore instead of a fun activity and that the adventure/classic mode losses its appeal once you unlock every character available.

It’s easy to consider a game an essential pickup for a system, but if there was ever a game I would call a must-have for those who love video games, it is unquestionably Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Nintendo Switch received the definitive Super Smash Bros. experience. Ultimate it’s quite literally the final form of this franchise with every character, every level and with deep mechanics, striking visuals, an absurd amount of game modes and all the fun of the previous games. After 20 years, this Nintendo mega-mashup still feels fresh.

You know it’s a great game after you’ve played it a while and you still enjoy going over and helping your fellow gamer unlock characters on their copy of the game.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is by far the most complete game in the popular franchise. It hasn’t reinvented the wheel and doesn’t need to. Ultimate presents enough additions and improvements to smooth out the edges and deliver a beautiful balance of chaos and fluidity.
Despite the issues in online, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the definitive game in the series. It’s a celebration of Nintendo’s legacy in the gaming industry, and a triumph in game design.
