Super Mario Party is where the series should have gone years ago. Gone are the cars, the mini stars, and the one player chasing down the team as Bowser. Here we have a Mario Party game for the ages, one that builds on and will hopefully be built upon, and one I'll be coming back to happily.

The best Mario Party in a very long time, and while it's shallow and silly it's also one of the few times casual and core gamers can compete in perfect (dis)harmony.

While it doesn't propel the Mario Party series to the multiplayer heights of Nintendo spin-off franchises like Mario Kart and Smash Bros, it offers so many pleasant memories when playing alongside friends that I can't help but love it.

A good party game that takes advantage of the console and its control system.

Super Mario Party is a welcome addition to the library of Switch titles, bringing with it plenty of new game modes and features to keep you entertained. Undoubtedly it will be best to get out at gatherings like Christmas but online play makes it less reliant on those situations.

There is nothing revolutionary in Super Mario Party, but the series remains the king of party games. This is an ideal gift for the whole family and those who are tired of sitting and playing alone in a room.

While the most stubborn and curmudgeonly of gamers will find time to complain about an overemphasis on luck over skill, Super Mario Party and its bevy of mini-games are sure to please casual gamers and series fans alike.

Recent Mario Party games have previously had a somewhat sterile feel to them, but with Super Mario Party that simply isn't the case. This isn't a cash-grab with Mario's face on the front; this is a well-constructed and beautifully realised Mario Party game which takes the series right back to its roots, but without being a straightforward rehash. There are a few interesting ideas that feel a little bit underdeveloped, but on the whole Super Mario Party is a true return to form.

Super Mario Party retains the whimsical and hilarious nature of its predecessors while greatly expanding on its mini-games and their complexity. It's a joyous time with a bunch of friends or family, even if you can't actually get any better at playing due to its heavily randomised mechanics.

The Mario Party debut on the Switch succeeds thanks to the familiar mini-game concept, good (co-op) mode selection and multiplayer fun.

Super Mario Party combines the aspirations of a Wii game with the well-rounded craftsmanship of a Switch title; it utilizes all of the Switch's unique capabilities without relying on any of them. It signals a return to the franchises' origins while adding layers of new content and intricacy to the original Mario Party formula.

Super Mario Party injects new life into the series' old board game formula by adding a bunch of fun extra modes such as River Survival, Sound Stage and Toad's Rec Room. Online is unfortunately limited to a few rotating games — a big missed opportunity especially with the debut of Nintendo's new online service. This means you sadly can't play a full board game with other folks away from your couch or immediate vicinity. If you're good with plotting and scheming against friends and family offline, however, this is arguably the best Mario Party game in the franchise's history.

Super Mario Party is, without doubt, the best entry in the series since the days of the GameCube. It's stellar presentation, kooky sense of humour and fantastic mini-games make it for an exceptionally fun party game. Also in the game's favour is that there is variation in the game mode's hitherto unseen in a Mario Party. The game is plagued by a lacking amount of boards and a sometimes painfully slow pace but on the whole, there's a fantastic multiplayer experience in there. This entry is good fun, but the foundations are there to make something sublime with a sequel. If some form of enticing single player is added and the bumps present here are ironed out, a Super Mario Party 2 could be something special.

Super Mario Party brings back the classic formula, and while there are some features that haven't made the return, great new additions like Partner Party and River Survival make this one of the best Mario Party games in at least a decade.
