While we've had to wait a little longer than those playing on PS4 and Xbox One, the wait has been more than worth it. Dark Souls: Remastered is a faithful remaster of a touchstone in video game design that improves overall performance while preserving all of the character traits that made the original such a memorable experience. While it's no less forgiving - and its menus are a little fiddly - this slick Nintendo Switch iteration offers the only way to experience Lordran's ultra-challenging odyssey in true handheld form. Praise the Sun, indeed.

There's no denying that handheld Dark Souls is still a cool concept, but its struggling framerate makes it difficult to recommend too highly.

A good remaster but not a perfect one due switch's poor hardware. At least the gameplay experience is still flawless, while adding a portable element to the mix, makes this version a sure hit.

Dark Souls Remastered for Nintendo Switch keeps the essence of the series intact and also adds the portability element that, however, sustains several problems that negatively affect the overall experience, especially with the TV mode on..

The Switch version of Dark Souls simply lacks the polish that the remaster brought with it, and even added in a few issues that aren't present anywhere else. The ability to play the game on the go isn't something that you can get anywhere else, and it is hard to quantify just how much that makes up for the issues. Souls Remastered is still a very worthwhile game, but it is hard to justify this version over any other given the weaknesses that are unique to it.

Playing one of the decade's most influential video games on a handheld proves a welcome novelty, as the Switch version of Dark Souls makes the most of the existing remaster.

I continue to experience and find new things hidden away in Lordran's darkest corners, and the Switch version lets me do that on the bus.

"Portable Souls" should be reason enough to convince anyone of not missing this game, and the Switch version of Dark Souls Remastered is exactly that, no more, no less. Performance is great (30fps great), the visual identitiy of the original game has been restored and, in the end, is as enjoyable as any other version of the game,

With Dark Souls Remastered you should know exactly what you are getting; a full fat port of a revered and classic game with all of the extra bells and whistles the little console can afford.

Dark Souls for Switch is perfect for TV and portable. On a small screen, game looks impeccable. It can and should be recommended to all owners of the Switch, because role-playing games of this caliber rarely visit the platform.

I spent a few days hunting for undead, Lords and great knights. I visited Oolacile again from the comfort of my bed, I lost thousands of souls in Anor Londo from the terrace of my house, and I banged my fists on the desk while slipping in a ravine trying to take a shortcut. Although it is a pity that the frame rate isn't perfectly stable, the chance to play whenever and wherever I want has it's own charm.

If you’re on PC, Xbox, or PS4, then I think the Dark Souls experience is better on those platforms. Sure, the novelty of playing this game on the go or what not is great, but it quickly wore off for me — I’d rather have a more consistent gameplay/mechanical experience.

Dark Souls: Remastered has the ambition of bringing one of the most influential games of the previous generation to a contemporary audience and it gets part of the job right on its Nintendo Switch incarnation. All the main elements are there and the bonus of playing Dark Souls on the go is very appealing, which is certainly a relief from its poor audio performance and an obvious visual downgrading when compared to the other versions of the same remaster. Nevertheless and despite its flaws, this is still a major piece of gaming that Nintendo players finally get to enjoy.

A slight downgrade in some visual effects and audio quality do little to hold back what is otherwise a great and smooth port of Dark Souls.

The Remaster is essential for anyone wanting to sample Dark Souls for the first time, but have exercised caution in jumping in thanks to the inevitable time commitment it will take: the Switch version will undoubtedly have an active online portion, it allows you to take the game at your own pace with the wonderful suspend/resume feature, and the reworked visuals make things that bit easier to read (at the cost of atmosphere in some cases).
