Far Cry New Dawn steers the franchise towards a deeper and more robust future. If Far Cry 6 incorporates some of the new elements, it will be a game to keep your eye on.

Far Cry New Dawn offers a solid gaming experience, full of vivid slightly familiar landscapes, a fun range of weapons and an appropriately crazy pair of sisters to go up against. Hours of entertainment are packed in whether you've visited Hope County before the nukes went off or not, with the easter eggs really great touches for fans of the series. However, New Dawn and the transformation of Hope County offered more hope on what the game could be. More could have been changed and surprisingly, given the epic craziness that was Blood Dragon, the insane dial hasn't been cranked up enough.

Far Cry New Dawn is an interesting experiment for the franchise. While it borrows some mechanics from the Ubisoft family that feel out of place and suffers from frustrating padding, the core Far Cry experience might be enough to tide you over once it finally gets going.

Far Cry expansions were great ways in which developers could try something new and wild. Sadly, New Dawn is not the case. The game feels safe, simple and generic. Is time to let the franchise rest and let some new ideas to flow.

Far Cry: New Dawn lacks the polish of the main series, but still delivers a quality experience.

Far Cry: New Dawn can quite easily provide a weekend of fun, but when it comes to recalling your favourite games of 2019, don't expect to remember this post-apocalyptic adventure. Its streamlined RPG elements do add some welcome structure, but this trek through Hope County may seem familiar to a fault. It's almost a shame that Ubisoft didn't go all-in on making New Dawn a totally over-the-top spin-off, rather than a sequel that struggles to tell an all-too-serious story.

If you're a little fatigued with the usual Far Cry formula and are looking to try something a bit different, steer clear of New Dawn. Despite its pretty visuals and reasonably well implemented RPG mechanics, this is largely an unchanged Far Cry experience. The enemy AI is woeful, the game suffers from the same poorly paced story beats as Far Cry 5, while the gameplay loop is almost virtually unchanged. However, if you're looking for more of the same, you can't really go wrong with this one. A little short in length and light on content nonetheless, New Dawn is simply a DLC add-on flaunted as a full priced stand-alone game and it just doesn't do enough to justify this.

I'm not sure if this sequel was necessary, but if it's positive or negative, it's already here. Although there's many things that are similar in quality and that I enjoyed the same way as in Far Cry 5, this game is not as good. But it's not as bad as the three DLC from last year. I highly recommend that you play Far Cry 5 first.

Far Cry New Dawn delivers explosive, chaotic fun in a vivid and gorgeous open world, but struggles to find its footing in the story and mission structure departments.

New Dawn is more Far Cry for those who have extinguished all their other options, but its new additions aren't fleshed out quite enough to captivate newcomers looking for a substantial open world experience, or entice deserters that have grown tired of the franchise formula.

As it stands, Far Cry New Dawn feels like it's playing it too safe in areas like its weaponry, while taking some interesting risks with its progression system that don't entirely pay off.

Far Cry: New Dawn is a great sequel to Far Cry 5. Length of campaign is shorter than Far Cry 5 and the map is the same. Overall New Dawn despite having some issues in storytelling and gameplay, still can be exciting and appealing.

Far Cry: New Dawn is a well-put-together Far Cry title that does a great job of bringing the story of Hope Count to a satisfying conclusion. It's fun for all the reasons Far Cry is fun with some addictive survival and base-building elements that shake up the formula just enough to make New Dawn stand well on its own.

As a big fan of the series, New Dawn was a welcome return to Hope County, Montana. It didn't wow, but the new progression system, fixed bugs, tighter maps, and nostalgia factor combine to make for a fun and familiar gameplay experience. Still, if you didn't care for Far Cry 5 there's probably not enough here to change your mind.

Except for the story that doesn't meet the standards, this game could provide hours of fun and enjoyable gameplay, but the franchise should consider introducing some changes in the future to keep the experience fresh.

Ubisoft could've done more to refresh Hope County for Far Cry: New Dawn, but there's still some good, chaotic fun to be had here.

It all feels mightily uneven. For every thrilling gunfight or anecdote-worthy encounter in the wilderness are other stories of frustration or key non-player characters wandering away from the objective and getting stuck on a rock

Far Cry never felt like just a shooter or just another open world game to me, but rather, a combination of many genres that offered balance between the cozier, more relaxing parts of the game and the high stakes, overstimulating pace of the main storyline. I guess maybe that's why, as I approached this review in the wake of Far Cry 5, I oddly felt the need to pin it to a single identity. I'm disappointed to see the series scale back at the expense of other features but New Dawn does a fine job of reinforcing that creative decision and offers some small hope that the writing may continue to improve. If outposts are your favorite part of the series, then you'll likely enjoy Far Cry New Dawn.

Far Cry: New Dawn still has a lot of familiar snags, but the overall experience makes for a solid weekend or two of Hollywood-style gaming.
