By the time New Dawn reaches its rushed third act, it's broken down entirely.

A dull story with boring characters and dialogues, destructive RPG elements, extreme emphasis on looting and microtransactions and bad level design, ruined an experience that otherwise would have been a fun Far Cry game

If you're a little fatigued with the usual Far Cry formula and are looking to try something a bit different, steer clear of New Dawn. Despite its pretty visuals and reasonably well implemented RPG mechanics, this is largely an unchanged Far Cry experience. The enemy AI is woeful, the game suffers from the same poorly paced story beats as Far Cry 5, while the gameplay loop is almost virtually unchanged. However, if you're looking for more of the same, you can't really go wrong with this one. A little short in length and light on content nonetheless, New Dawn is simply a DLC add-on flaunted as a full priced stand-alone game and it just doesn't do enough to justify this.

For the full asking price, I certainly can't recommend Far Cry New Dawn, especially not with its weak narrative and uninspired take on the post-apocalypse.

Far Cry expansions were great ways in which developers could try something new and wild. Sadly, New Dawn is not the case. The game feels safe, simple and generic. Is time to let the franchise rest and let some new ideas to flow.

In the end, Far Cry: New Dawn is based on a good idea but ends up with a mediocre implementation. The variations it offers to the original recipe are interesting, but they do not offer anything radical in relation to what we already know.

Unfortunately, while the past 4 instalments in the Far Cry series have all been excellent, New Dawn is not. The post-apocalyptic paint job and garish yet joyful weaponry do nothing to hide the fact that you’re doing exactly the same thing once again – except this time it’s pink and are facing off against even less interesting villains. The best moments of Far Cry New Dawn are when it’s referencing what happened in Far Cry 5 and for a pseudo-sequel, this shouldn’t be the case.

A disappointing sequel which doesn't use the post-apocalyptic setting very well. It adds some new mechanics, but deep inside it's the same Far Cry 5 without any meaningful additions.

As it stands, Far Cry New Dawn feels like it's playing it too safe in areas like its weaponry, while taking some interesting risks with its progression system that don't entirely pay off.

Far Cry New Dawn does everything you'd expect from a Far Cry title. However, it failed to deliver the same level of polish and enjoyment its predecessor enjoyed, and while it's still packed with buckets of fun, I couldn't help shake the feeling that I've done all this before.

Far Cry: New Dawn offers fans of the series much of what they have come to like about it and does some good work as a direct sequel, but its reduced scope has led to some changes that are not for the better, and it definitely stands as a minor entry

Fire may have rained from the skies and wiped out entire nations, but the action in Far Cry New Dawn is pretty much the same as it ever was, only less so. A few interesting new tweaks to the series' formula are overshadowed by a cut-rate campaign, a story that gets colossally dumb in the third act, and a resource system that feels both unbalanced and pointless.

Far Cry New Dawn is a standalone sequel to Far Cry 5, but it adds nothing of meaning or value to the original story, and it certainly doesn't provide the kind of closure to FC5's insane ending that you might've been hoping for. If you just want more Far Cry, this is worth checking out. Otherwise, you're not really missing much here.

Far Cry New Dawn is both a magnificent re-imagination of the storied series, and a lackluster approach by Ubisoft plagued with repetition.

Far Cry: New Dawn is not a revolution for the series, tweaking the Far Cry formula for mixed levels of success with the series' first direct sequel.

Even if it offers some new ways to play that can make the formula evolve in the right direction, Far Cry : New Dawn suffers from having a poor story and very forgettable characters, that make it look like a Direct-to-DVD sequel to Far Cry 5. The real new dawn for the series is not for this time.

Far Cry: New Dawn can quite easily provide a weekend of fun, but when it comes to recalling your favourite games of 2019, don't expect to remember this post-apocalyptic adventure. Its streamlined RPG elements do add some welcome structure, but this trek through Hope County may seem familiar to a fault. It's almost a shame that Ubisoft didn't go all-in on making New Dawn a totally over-the-top spin-off, rather than a sequel that struggles to tell an all-too-serious story.

Far Cry: New Dawn offers the same old concept, but with reduced functionality and odd monetization system. Of course, the game's very beautiful, you can be charmed by a detailed forest and a dynamic time change, but in terms of story, characters and side missions this game is one of the weakest in the series.

It all feels mightily uneven. For every thrilling gunfight or anecdote-worthy encounter in the wilderness are other stories of frustration or key non-player characters wandering away from the objective and getting stuck on a rock

Far Cry New Dawn is fine, functional, and sometimes fun, but it mostly just hovers around the middle, neither touching greatness nor mediocrity but occupying the safe, boring plateau in between.
