Clever, emotional and raw, Sea of Solitude is a personal journey that at times you feel like you're intruding on. It is resolutely truthful and, just as Kay turns aspects of herself inward and outward, you can't help but consider your own place, both amongst the people around you and inside your own head.

Sea of Solitude is a game of suffering and altruism, of lights and shadows, of terrible errors and courageous teachings. The work of Cornelia Geppert and Jo-Mai Games is without any doubt a game worth playing.

Sea of Solitude is a masterpiece of storytelling, art-design and thematic visualisation. While not necessarily lengthy or mechanically deep it is an astoundingly well-crafted game that should be experienced by everyone

Sea of Solitude is a game not to be taken lightly—the content warning at the beginning attests to that—but well worth the tumultuous ride.

With Sea of Solitude we still discover today, two years after its release, an incredibly mature work from every point of view, graphic, thematic and also in terms of gameplay. The experience touches the perfection of the genre with an evocative glance, a soundtrack practically without defects and an atmosphere that is sewn onto the player making him breathe deeply all the air of a sea that is perceived so much calm and vast, as much as inhabited by creatures that perhaps we should let sleep. In Sea of Solitude there is everything: introspection, the focus on the character and on us, the openness and pleasure of travel. If during our journey we are then called to face our own monsters we will have the courage to do so: in this experience we are Light, Darkness, Sea and the same monsters. We have everything we need and on this tour we have all been kindly offered through one of the best video games of the genre, to be suggested instead of a book.

Sea of Solitude is a personal journey inside the darkest paths of our existence. It can be a painful experience, but in the end we can find a heartwarming message: empathy will save us all.

I could go on and on about this game, but just know that games like Sea of Solitude are important. It personifies Kay's journey with mental health issues and brings to light different types of situations that people suffering from MHI might encounter. It also brings with it perspective that some people absolutely need should they know someone going through MHI and potentially a starting point when it comes to getting help for that individual.

Unusual, but short story about human relations and inner demons.

Sea of Solitude is an emotional journey in which we help giant creatures come to terms with their issues and resolve them. Whereas the game feels like it’s taken great inspiration from silent indie titles, such as RiME, this game provides spoken narrative in order to tell its story, a story which a lot of us can relate to. For a game encased within symbolism, metaphors, hidden meanings, and the personification of emotions, the whole aesthetic and art style of the game are beyond stunning – thanks to the simplist nature of the visuals combined with the complexity of the design. Taking around four to five hours to complete, even longer if you wish to find all of the collectables, I feel this is the perfect length as it tells its story with great pacing.

Trough a world of monsters and fantasy, Sea of Solitude tells a story about real problems that never get enough attention, specially in video games. It's like looking into the soul of another person.

Sea of Solitude is a game that, despite some flaws in its gameplay, gets to the players' hearts. Jo-Mei Games aims for the hearts and gets it just right, offering an experience that can trully make the players suffer in a heartwarming and, sometimes, even necessary way.

Sea of Solitude is a tremendously moving and well-thought out narrative adventure that nails story and art direction and offers solid gameplay, but could have better voice acting and a longer overall length.

Sea of Solitude gives us a boat. And a light. And it accepts that we must sometimes think of ourselves as a contradiction of insignificance and grotesquery, as we wind our way through the path of recovery. That, monstrous though we may feel, we can still affect change in our lives, and the lives of others. Healing is possible, if complicated, non-linear, and often contradictory. Sea of Solitude wants us to see ourselves better than we do, but won't abandon us when we can't.

For those that have argued that videos games are not art, I would hold Sea of Solitude up as a shining example to the contrary. There is no easy way to summarize my experience with SOS, it was incredible, challenging, insightful and memorable. Instead, I leave you with the words of Henry Miller, an American author of the twentieth century, "One's destination is never a place but rather a new way of looking at things."
