Gunfire Games have created a deep looter shooter, with meaningful rewards and tough bosses, combined with a fascinating world packed with lore and story reveals that are worth experiencing. Remnant is a replayable, bitesize adventure that I will be hopping back into again and again. However, the PS4 version at launch is marred by frame rate drops, crashes, and a few fights that feel broken and unbalanced.

My time with Remnant was a total roller-coaster. There were moments of pure, unfiltered rage, peaks of elation, ah-ha moments, and quiet zen grinds. For the most part though, it’s just a steady climb.

Gunfire Games did what they could to bring Remnant From the Ashes to the Nintendo Switch. The downgrade is real with clear visual concessions, much longer loading times and a game that is less enjoyable on the go due to the inaccuracy and lack of ergonomics of the Joy-Con.

Remnant: From the Ashes is still an excellent game. Gunfire Game’s port to the Nintendo Switch has made an exceptionally great game accessible to a whole new group of gamers. Tight, responsive controls and consistently smooth gameplay performance make up for some downgraded visuals. This leaves you with a solid offering for the Nintendo Switch. If you’re in the market for a Souls-like with a unique story, a bit more forgiving gameplay and also like to game on the go then I can highly recommend picking up Remnant: From the Ashes on the Nintendo Store.

Remnant : From the Ashes is doing well at mixing Dark Souls Like gameplay and TPS action games. It also has a great universe, but the procedural features of the levels are a bit annoying.

Despite an upgrade and loot system that's fairly uninspired and slow, Remnant: From the Ashes manages to make a name for itself with some engaging combat, beautiful environmental design and exceptional boss fights

It’s a big surprise inside a tiny package that gets the best idea of games like Resident Evil and Dark Souls and mix it up with expertise with a coat of AA game paint.

At a budget price and launching with a last minute ad bumrush, Remnant: From the Ashes is the kind of title you'd expect to come out and vanish quickly. But for fans of tough RPGs, action shooters, or post-apocalyptic fiction, passing up on Remnant would be a devastating mistake. It easily joins the ranks of games like Vampyr, that stubbornly outgrow their financial constraints to truly innovate and elevate a genre that has long since needed new ideas.

Remnant: From the Ashes is a spectacular co-op experience when played with friends, and a potentially frustrating one when played with strangers. While procedural generation can lead to some monotony, a solid combat engine and incredible creature design make it a punishing, yet incredibly satisfying joy to play. The game is held back by several bugs and crashes, but this shouldn't stop you from giving it a go.

Despite some early game woes and a premise that doesn't fully pan out, Remnant: From the Ashes is a very unique game.

Remnant: From the Ashes is a creative diversion from what one might expect in your typical third-person survival-shooter. While not without its share of flaws, it should be on every Soulsborne fan's radar.

Remnant is a game worth taking a chance on, especially if you have a couple of friends to watch your back. After all, it’s dangerous to go it alone, and there is safety in numbers.

Though it remains to be seen if Gunfire can fix the present issues and expand the game into the infinite time sink that the studio promised, Remnant: From the Ashes will no doubt inspire genre fans to hang up their swords and shields for some time in order to dive into a chaotic universe, guns blazing.

Remnant: From the Ashes sometimes struggles to present a cohesive, balanced vision for the kind of game it's trying to be, but nestled within that chaotic swirl of ideas is a strong core that's supported by equally strong gameplay. As long as you don't mind enduring highly difficult bosses and a lack of ambient polish, Remnant is the perfect sort of game for players who appreciate both the Souls-like and tactical third-person shooting genres.
