I purchased Remnant for $40 when it was new, and I really enjoyed it. It’s tough, a bit slow, and kinda ugly; but now that it is on Game Pass for both Console and PC it’s an easy recommendation for anyone looking to murder a bunch of creepy-looking monsters either alone or with their friends.

As far as Switch ports go, this one is not bad. Sure, compromises are apparent, namely in the visual department and some egregious loading times, but I had a good time with it. Or better yet, I had as much fun with this particular port as I could on my own. This is still a co-op game at heart, so we can only hope more people buy it in order to populate its lobbies. As of now, however, I can’t say this is a must-own.

Feeling like it was designed to take some inspiration from the challenge of Dark Souls, and the format and look of Fallout, this feels pretty different

Overall, Remnant: From The Ashes is a perfect entry point for those who are wanting to take their first steps in dabbling in the soulslike genre. Gunfire Games took me by surprise with this one. I was skeptical going in and doubted the third-person shooter mechanics would blend so seamlessly with the genre. Remnant 2 is due to be released later this year, and frankly, I can’t wait.

Remnant: from the Ashes is a third-person adventure RPG. Developed by Gunfire Games and originally released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows in the summer of 2019. It’s an eclectic story setting of an apocalyptic event that razed the world and interdimensional travel to find its source. Is it worth picking up? Let’s find out in this rapid review!

Remnant, is a solid action game that sells itself short with a terrible opening half-hour. Get through that though and there’s a lot to recommend in the solid gunplay and exploration of an intriguing setting. The Switch port, however, isn’t great and you can pick this up on other platforms for about half the price. If you’re dead set on handheld (and don’t own a Steamdeck…) then it’s still a bit of a tough sell at £35, but if you spot this in a sale and like the sound of shooting a bunch of Groot-clones through a ruined city and beyond then I think it’s certainly worth taking a chance on.

Remnant: From the Ashes is one of the better ARPGs released in recent years so if you enjoy Souls-like campaigns or third-person shooters in general then I'm sure you'll have an enjoyable time mowing down the monsters that lurk in its post-apocalyptic world.

Presentation and polish aren't its strong suit, but Remnant: From the Ashes features gripping third-person gunplay and simple but satisfying progression that enable enticing entertainment regardless of whether you're playing cooperatively or solo. The visceral variety and delightful design of the environments and enemies elevate Remnant above other Dark Souls doppelgangers.

All in all, Remnant: From the Ashes is a solid attempt at changing up the Soulsborne formula. It doesn't quite hit the same marks that make From Software's franchise so delightful, but it has its own strengths. Co-op is a lot of fun, and having a game genuinely built around it is a welcome change from phantoms and the ilk. Remnant is at its strongest when you're playing with other people and working together to take on huge Root monsters or figure out the answer to a riddle. If you're looking for a co-op based Souls game, then Remnant is worth a look.

Remnant: From the Ashes is far from a perfect game, and there are some glaring aspects that really put a damper on the title. That said, by the end of it all, you're still left with an incredibly solid third-person shooter mixed with challenging elements, all meshed incredibly well together for a passion project that oozes potential. Whether you're wandering the realms solo or with some friends, Remnant offers a thoroughly engaging experience that proves its developer's chops in making a solid action RPG title.

Remnant from the ashes is a unique co-op experience that has successfully mixed various entertaining elements from different genres. Most notably, the game is extremely Inspired by soulsborne. So combat is very difficult and challenging and you need to be aware about some elements like stamina bar. Levels design are impressive and different type of melee weapons and firearms prevent gameplay from getting repetitive. Still some technical issues and bugs Are annoying. Most importantly, the game becomes unreasonably Difficult at some moments and boss fights, specially in solo mode. Nevertheless, Remnant From the ashes is undoubtedly one of the best Co-op games of 2019 so far.

Remnant: From the Ashes can positively use various aspects of other games while creating an unique identity. As one of the biggest surprises of the year, we have a great cooperative shooter, with good depth in its gameplay and challenging in the right measure.
