Jamestown+ Reviews
'Jamestown+' brings about the rebirth of the aging shoot-em-up genre by paying respect to its 16-bit heyday while throwing in a healthy dose of modern gaming flair.
Jamestown+ is another brilliant addition to the Nintendo Switch's ever-expanding library of excellent shmups.
For what it is, Jamestown+ is a fun game worth its asking price on the PlayStation Network. If anything, it's a fun little distraction calling back to the classic games of yesteryear. Fans of bullet hell certainly won't be disappointed.
Jamestown+ has a great foundation in that it's an extremely addictive and equally challenging shmup, whether you're playing alone or with friends. The inclusion of a store and some forced backtracking does take away from the experience, but at the end of the day, blowing stuff up is just so satisfying. Those who are able to get past its occasionally tedious attitude will find bullet hell bliss.
Final Form Games throws history out the window to create an action-packed shoot-em-up where 17th century colonists fight over Mars. This is a great looking game that will remind players of the genre's heyday in the 1990s. And with dozens of items to unlock and a wide variety of weapons to shoot, Jamestown+ will keep shoot-em-up fans happy for many hours to come.
Jamestown+ lands on the Nintendo Switch as one of the most fun shoot'em-ups of this generation and this conversion work is without a doubt a very competent one. The gameplay is frantic and addictive, the game's performance is up to what is expected and the cooperative mode does wonders. Those already familiar with the game, however, won't find a whole new amount of original content in this delivery.

It's about time someone came forth with a good "shmup" for this generation of consoles. Final Form Games takes everything good from the original Jamestown and ups the ante with more content and modes, including co-op support that's way more fun than it has every right being. If you're up for a challenge, or just want something different out of your shooters, make your residence in Jamestown.
All of this is wrapped up in a package that unites everything into that classic arcade experience the developers were aiming for when making Jamestown Plus. The amount of credits you have flashing at the bottom of the screen, your score rising above the millions, you and your friends dashing across the screen, and so many other little elements help make Jamestown Plus the game arcade-goers dreamed of back in the 90s.
Jamestown+ is highly enjoyable for users who appreciate a fast-paced and competitive shoot-em-up. While the game is weighed down a bit by story, and the game doesn't allow for the Joy-Cons to remain connected when the Nintendo Switch is undocked, this title still has something to offer for those looking for an addictive game with a unique setting.
Jamestown+ is an unlikely combination of mechanics, situations, and characters, but in the end all that matters is that it's a quality shoot-em-up.
Jamestown+ is a strange trip through space-age colonial times. Take control of several ships with dozens of optional load outs and protect Roanoke and Jamestown alongside John Smith from the allied forces of the Spanish and the Martians. While the premise may seem weird and hokey, the gameplay is solid, fun, and is sure to satisfy shoot'em up fans for hours with multiple difficulties, unlockable game modes, and additional challenge tiers.
Jamestown+ functions perfectly well as a single player shooter, but the fun really gears up a notch in couch co-op.
Adding length by gating off stages with higher difficulties is a miss, and a few more stages would have been welcome, but it's still an easy recommendation as one of the more enjoyable entries in the genre. The story is interesting enough, especially compared to those of similar games. I've never been to Mars before, but I can safely say that it's worth taking a trip down to Jamestown+.
Certain issues hold back the title from being truly amazing but that does not change the fact that you should consider picking this title up if you are looking for a great time with a group of friends
Jamestown+ is a masterful reinterpretation of classic shoot 'em ups with plenty of modern appeal.
The Switch has most certainly been blessed with a wide variety of excellent shmups since its release and with the release of Jamestown+ there's now another strong contender on the pile...
If you are a fan of Shmups buying Jamestown+ is a no brainer. The game looks and plays like a dream. The soundtrack is one of the best you will find and having local multiplayer makes this a joy for folks that like to play games with their friends. I do wish this had online multiplayer since not all of us live close to friends we can easily snag up to play. I played this for around 5 hours and I was able to beat all of the stages the game had to offer, but I could’ve invested a lot more time if I wanted to unlock everything the game had to offer and complete all of the challenges, making it well worth the $17.99 price point. If you’ve been looking for a Shmup to test your skills or just a good game to play with some friends, you really couldn’t go wrong picking this up.
I strongly believe that Jamestown is one of the best Shmup games out there.
Jamestown+’s fantastic art style, simple yet frenetic gameplay, and hours upon hours of replayability make it a fantastic game whether playing solo or with friends.
Overall, I can see why this game continues to receive updates and ports even eight years after its original release. Jamestown+ is an incredibly well-polished and engaging experience, offering up both a great entry point to the bullet hell genre and a satisfying challenge to veterans.
