While the racing is fun and the customization is deep, Need for Speed: Heat feels far too familiar. The day-night gameplay loop does mix things up a little but this racing title does very little to separate it from its predecessors. Its story is predictable and its presentation is underwhelming. Need for Speed: Heat is fun but predictable and slightly stale.

Need for Speed Heat is far from the revival of the series which fans have hoped for, and makes you wonder what happened to Criterion. Ghost games did a decent job steering back Need for Speed into safer waters, but it lacks the passion and the visceral fun which made Underground legendary. Need for Speed Heat is a decent game, but not a memorable one.

The latest entry in the NFS franchise brings back some old flavors that still don't taste the way it should, but it's still a good step in the right direction.

But, it is the very definition of generic, with the tired, Fast and Furious lite, underground street racer motif we've seen dozens of times before. Heat fails to stand out from similar franchises, and joins the ranks of the more forgettable Need for Speed entries. There's some measure of fun to be had here, but it's clear that the series needs a shot of nitrous in the tank if it wants to stay relevant.

A decent Need for Speed game. Not an achievement and not a triumphant return of the series, but still a good racing game which unfortunately still has some issues.

A cherry on top of the cake that is 25 years of Need for Sped, or yet another 'what could have been'? Need for Speed Heat has the potential te be everything that anyone can ever ask from a Need for Speed-title, yet it makes several strange choices that do not benefit the game. Racing is fun as always, the story is poor and customizing cars makes up for a lot. But a title that celebrates 25 years of Need for Speed? No, not by a long shot.

Need For Speed Heat is bathed in neon while offering a great sense of speed, fantastic customization, and generates a great level of tension when being pursued by the cops. The car selection covers a wide variety of eras and types that’s never boring, and there’s more than enough to satisfy everyone. Between the actual races and roaming around challenges, there’s hours of things to do you’ll never tire of. Need For Speed Heat is the best racing game of the year, hands-down.

I feel like an accessory to the crime by awarding Need for Speed: Heat such a high score, given the blatant theft of Forza Horizon’s entire schtick. But, at the end of the day it works and the few additions that Heat does bring to the formula help it stand apart. Need for Speed: Heat is a return to form for the series, and a great foundation to rebuild the tattered franchise on.

Need For Speed Heat takes everything we loved from the past 25 years of Need For Speed and puts it into one neat package. While the game excels in having a little something for everyone, it drastically falters in its storytelling and the rather awkward dialogue left a lot to be desired.

As obvious as may sound, it’s another Need For Speed (NFS) game: you DRIVE, BUILD and CUSTOMIZE awesome cars. NFS Heat is divided into 2 modes: Day and Night. The first mode rewards money and the second reputation, XP for character levels. The NIGHT MODE carries the function that gives the game name. HEAT is a "wanted system" as you have in games like GTA. It goes from 0 to 5 and the higher you get, more cops you will attract and more XP will be rewarded. Bigger the risk, bigger the reward. Your “taste” for the game genre is key to set your expectations correctly as 100% of the gameplay you will be driving or setting-up a car. The set of storyline missions is short, but there are tones of things to do at NFS Heat (collectibles, race modes, time trials, jumps, drifting...).
