Valfaris is the worthy heir to the once beloved Contra and Turrican series. Despite his short leght, it truly represents the new avant-garde of the genre.

If you are willing to brave the chaotic difficulty and dystopian grittiness, Valfaris is absolutely worth every moment!

Valfairs is as metal as they come. It's tough, gory, and a lot of fun with an amazing soundtrack. It's just a shame it doesn't tread much new ground.

If you like challenging games that are full of action and are dripping with atmosphere, Valfaris comes highly recommended. And if you happen to like metal music, it’s even better. Steel Mantis has struck silver with this metal-infused shooter. It isn’t perfect but it’s bloody good. That’s better than the bronze or even maybe copper it struck with Slain: Back from Hell. Maybe next time it’ll strike gold. I’m looking forward to that.

It nails the aesthetic and gameplay of Genesis era side scrollers, and looks like something that could have been released during that era and go down in history as a fondly remembered classic. Even if you’re sick of retro-inspired action-platformers, you should still consider giving Valfaris a shot.

Valfaris is a master class of action, platforming and pacing. Personally I'd love to see these guys use this formula in a Metroidvania.

Valfaris is solid. The pacing is great, and with the exception of the back half, the difficulty curve isn't too bad. The juggling of weapons in relation to their balance is well done, and the constant boss fights are a fulfilling challenge once you overcome each foe. Provided you enjoy the Nintendo-hard games of the past, Valfaris is well worth checking out.

Valfaris is an experience that anyone with an interest in gaming should try, specially every rock and metal fan and 2D platformer fans. The game is brutal, gory and violent as it should be and it includes some of the best music tracks for sure. The gameplay is smooth and cathartic and the variety of weapons is more than enough. Valfaris is a successful reminder of 80's. an amaznig experience.

Valfaris is a near-perfect 2D action platformer with an excellent sense of style in every aspect. Its industrial sci-fi setting is like Doom on steroids, and its breakneck soundtrack does a great job of tying the whole experience together. While it is weakened somewhat by difficulty imbalances in some sections - particularly in later levels - it nevertheless stands apart in the tide of indie platformers by virtue of its rock-solid personality, beautiful world and graphics, and great mechanics.

Valfaris is a great game and we really loved it! gameplay is pure fun old school action, and pixel-art is some of the best we've ever seen.We didn't like how enemies kept respawning in some areas, but it wasn't enough to take from our enjoyment with this game. Valfaris is one of the better indie games to come this year with its smart design and balanced challenges, and it is highly recommended.

Old school gamers and players looking for a challenge can do no wrong with Valfaris. It’s basically a love letter to classic run-and-gun games from the golden era of gaming. It’s fun, hard and frustrating, but like most games of the genre, you learn from your mistakes and that allows you to reach the next level. Definitely one of the best, most challenging, experience of the year.

If you’ve been looking for an experience on Switch that takes some of the core shooting mechanics of games the likes of Contra, then bolts the ability to hack and slash, and tops it all off with some cranking metal tunes and loads of intensity… Valfaris is going to be your new jam...

Valfaris is a side shooter with brilliant gameplay who knows how to get things done. Our main advantages are a wonderful handling with which we will always be in control of the situation, a more than decent duration and a fluid and dynamic combat that encourages us to continue. The soundtrack and the final bosses will put our adrenaline pumping. It has small details that make it not a perfect game, but it certainly borders on a high level.

Valfaris is beautiful to see and fun to play. A title that sprays metal from every pore and that will immediately enter the hearts of fans thanks to an artistic section from hands in hair, with detailed, charismatic and original settings. Musically speaking, the soundtrack, created by Curt Victor Braynt, alone could be worth the price of the ticket. If to all this we add a gameplay fun like few other things, with the right depth and the right adaptability we are faced with a very clear situation: Valfaris is one of those video games to play during 2019, whatever it costs.

Slain was nice, but not mature in my opinion. A graphic display that rode on the retro wave. However, the makers have taken the criticism to heart. The big hit is not VALFARIS. With Axiom Verge, Blazing Chrome, Gunlord & Co. there is also a lot of strong competition. Nevertheless, accompanied by metal rhythms, it is fun to chop up opponents. There is still frustration, but unlike Slain you have the feeling that you have failed yourself. I can recommend the title to fans of the genre. Everyone else prefers to play rehearsal first.

If you enjoyed the challenge that Cuphead, Sundered and all the others bring, then Valfaris is your next port of call. If you aren’t a fan of hard as nails throwbacks to older games, you may not like this. Or if you sit somewhere in between, you cannot go wrong with the heaviest, metal-est platform action game going.

If the game features a trophy for dying 50 games, you will know that it won’t be a walk in the park. Especially when you’re most likely to score it early on and there are even no difficulty levels, putting everyone to face the same ordeal. It’s an entirely different matter whether the challenge is fair or unfair, though. After all, the line between the two is notoriously thin.
