It was just so refreshing to play a 4X game that wasn’t obsessed with making everything as needlessly complex as possible, while taking as much of your time as it could to do it. If only more games in the genre took the hint…

Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars is a title for vampire fans, with shallow empire management but a combat system to match. If bloodsuckers aren't your thing, maybe this game isn't either.

At first glance, Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars may look like a simple copy of older titles but the new mechanics that has been put over the classic formula has made a world of difference. From the visual standpoint, Immortal Realms may not be something to write home about but the world building and characters that populate that world makes this a great new franchise starter in one the oldest video game genres.

Average in every respect, and with little to reward or keep you playing, Immortal Realms Vampire Wars is a dull strategy sim, concealed behind an acceptable veneer. When the night is over and sunlight reveals its true form, it’s your will to play that’ll have dried to a husk.

Some minor issues hold it back at times, but overall newcomers and strategy enthusiasts alike will have plenty to sink their teeth into.

Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars presents a very satisfying mix of different genres and aside from some UI quibbles along the way, does a good job of porting over from PC to console. The presentation works well with the vampiric theme, and while the narrative itself is nothing all that unique, the different campaigns are fun to venture through all the same. Fans of single player strategy games with some RPG and card game mechanics should enjoy this offering despite some of its flaws.

Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars does have some pleasingly involved battles, but as a grand strategy game, it is a tad simplistic and limited in scope compared to the titles it draws inspiration from. Still, the campaign provides for an entertaining romp, and it’s well worth delving into these dark realms if you’re a fan of the strategy-RPG genre.

Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars is a decent game that suffers from repetition and poor AI making the game a tad too easy. It is a fun distraction and with 3 campaigns following different vampire clans, it is a long game. Unfortunately, you may get bored by the ease of winning long before you make it through the story and the different campaigns, but it does show promise and it is great to see strategy games make a comeback of sorts to PC and console.

Vampire Wars doesn’t really standout in any category but is a solid experience and a decent jumping point into strategy games. Although simple in it’s gameplay the art and enviroments make up for it.

Take command of the legions of troops loyal to one of three Vampire blood lines. Drawing on pretty much every cliché and gothic trope, you can imagine Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars liberally applies its source material to everything that it does. The question, therefore, is how well does the game use its inspiration and does it make sense?

Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars certainly doesn't suck as much as vampires do but it can be quite a monotonous game. The moments when you overcome challenges and cover the map are rewarding but they're fleeting and all you're left with is an anemic experience.

For fans of the old Heroes of Might & Magic titles or Total War, Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars does a lot that is highly laudable; it offers a great concept, nails the aesthetics, and offers quality tactical and strategic action.

One noticeable issue with the game is lengthy load times before entering and exiting combat and when loading a scenario; these can take upward of 30 seconds. If you're thirsty for a bloody, in-depth strategy title, Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars may just slake your thirst. That's if the combat segments don't put a stake through your heart first.

I've been enjoying the game a lot… more than I was expecting to in fact… which is not to say that I thought I wouldn't like it… just that I've been going back to it, time and time again… normally I'd go from one game to another… but I've just been sinking hours into this and can see myself putting quite a few more into it.

Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars will not threaten any of the giants of the turn-based strategy games but for console players, it offers an accessible alternative with a fun dark fantasy twist.

Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars is not a bad game. It is, however, a game that missed its chance at greatness.

Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars will keep strategy gamers busy for a while, so you get decent value for money. I think the experience would be much more enjoyable with some well-aimed tutorial, movement, and UI refinements. Hopefully, we will get some improvements with the next installment, as I'm looking forward to seeing where this story can go.

I still feel like Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars has some potential behind its flaws. The idea of a more streamlined strategy game, with less of a resource management and empire-building focus, is something that could be appealing for newcomers to the strategy genre. However, its huge maps and clunky combat drag the experience down. Furthermore, without multiplayer or a map editor, there is not really much more to the experience than the campaign, which is only somewhat engaging. Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars certainly has enjoyable elements, but feels difficult to recommend to fans of the strategy genre.
