Immortals Fenyx Rising is a beautiful game that doesn't shy away from its inspirations. It borrows heavily from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild while still introducing its own unique aspects.

Taking about twenty-five hours to complete, Immortals Fenyx Rising was a fun experience with some enjoyable combat, great humor, and some interesting puzzles. While I do wish it was a little less heavy on the puzzle side of things, it is refreshing to see compared to the standard combat-heavy games of this type. I had a great time with this. I do think that the humor will make or break it for some people, but as long as no-one goes into this expecting something similar to one of Ubisoft’s more serious titles, I doubt they’ll be disappointed.

In the end, Immortals Fenyx Rising has a generic name applied to a familiar experience. It also happens to sport some derivative design choices. Nevertheless, thanks to its unique style, addicting exploration and enjoyable gameplay, it's an easy game to recommend to everyone. There are some clunky moments and the humor often fumbles more than it lands, but its charm rises above those pitfalls. For those looking for a grand adventure, this is an odyssey worth embarking on.

The different individual ingredients manage to create a fresh mix that we had not seen for a long time, especially from Ubisoft.

Before I end this review, one very important thing I want to talk about is the game’s very end section. The final section of this game is very, very, incredible. It will force you to remember everything you’ve learned about the game thus far. Every mechanic, every puzzle solved, every enemy encountered. It’s a very fantastic way of closing off a fantastic game. I had an incredible time playing this game, and I can say with confidence that if you enjoy RPGs that put forth exploration and have great campaigns, you will have an incredible time playing this game too.

With Immortals Fenyx Rising Ubisoft had created something that even with its flaws offers more than most AAA games. If it wasn't for sometimes simpler game design, this could have been one of the best games from this studio.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is definitively the best Ubisoft game released in 2020. Blending of the Ubi sandbox formula with elements from Breaths of the Wild creates something greater than sum of it parts. The story and characters are charming and funny, gameplay is engaging and not stale thanks to some smart puzzles and cool platforming sections. Overall it is a step in the right direction for the Ubisoft games and I hope decisions made here will be carried forward to improve other sandbox titles from the publisher.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising is not going to win any awards for originality. But it is charming most of the time, features a lush Greek god island to explore that’s filled with secrets and discoverables, and contains a ton of brain-teasers mixed in with some light-yet-hearty combat.

I can’t say for sure whether Immortals Fenyx Rising is for you. The systems in this game are absolutely not super in-depth; they are streamlined, easy to understand versions of systems you see in other games, and this is true of character progression, combat, and practically everything else. They are designed to get to the point and let you get on with your game. It’s not overly involved because it doesn’t need to be, and there are plenty of games out there that do get incredibly deep if you want those kinds of experiences. Immortals Fenyx Rising isn’t the perfect antidote to open world fatigue, but it is a damn good first volley at trimming off the extra checklists for the sake of checklists, and giving players a more focused experience that they can dial up or down to suit their tastes. As a bonus, it’s wrapped in a gorgeous looking package with some clever writing and a story that may not be ultra compelling but is fun to enjoy nonetheless. It’s the perfect open world game for somebody who loves Greek mythology, for somebody who wants to have more control over their experience, who wants to be able to kick back and explore without pressure, or who wants to dig into a big game they can actually finish. For me, it’s a fantastic way to revisit a style of game I’d given up on and focus on just having fun with it, which is worth the price of admission for me alone, and I can confidently say that between the three big Ubisoft releases this season, Immortals Fenyx Rising is the game I’ll be choosing to spend my time with.

Ubisoft Quebec has lovingly crafted a game I can finally be excited about as much as the Assassin's Creed folk. If Immortals Fenyx Rising is to become a franchise for Ubisoft, they can take it in any direction with a vast amount of mythologies to explore.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is a great experience, though a tad repetitive and a bit of a grind at times as well. I might sound negative in what I’m describing, but this is a very full and enchanting time.

It's easy to dismiss Immortals: Fenyx Rising as just a Breath of the Wild rip-off, or yet another Ubisoft IP built on the principles that the it has cemented its brand on, yet, there's some real magic here. It being launched so close to Assassin's Creed Valhalla has helped to differentiate the two, and to showcase just how much this feels like a breath of fresh air when compared. "Fun" is often an overused word in gaming, but it's exactly what this feels like. Ubisoft's open-world titles can invoke burnout towards their conclusion - crumbling under their own weight due to their size. Instead, this is a real palette cleanser. It feels like it hits that real sweet spot in the genre of the open-world adventure games. The world is large but enjoyable to explore, with just enough to do, and the constant commentary keeping things interesting. This combined with the genuinely funny and smart writing results in something that will be the big surprise hit for many.

With Immortals Fenyx Rising, Ubisoft almost created its own Breath of the Wild. Unique mechanics and fluent gameplay shows they have a very nice good IP in their hands.

Although Immortals Fenyx Rising seems like a Breath of the Wild clone, it's done so well that gives you a great time, and even fill the gap for those who doesn't own a Nintendo Switch and can't play the Zelda series.

A fun trip to an island full of great puzzles and funny gods. Not a new Zelda game, of course, but it's a fine effort to make something similar.

Immortals Fenyx Rising undoubtedly owes a huge debt to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, borrowing wholesale as it does from its core gameplay mechanics and narrative structure. However, what Ubisoft Quebec has come up with here also adds enough of its own spin on proceedings, with a strong personality and sense of humour sat alongside some brilliantly designed puzzles, flashy, satisfying combat and a huge world full of secrets, treasures and Ancient Greek mythology to discover. It may falter slightly in the final stretch by wrestling away player freedom and funnelling you through its overly long endgame, but this is still a hugely entertaining, technically impressive Ancient Greek romp that's well worth experiencing.
