Godfall is this generation’s very own Ryse: Son of Rome. Beyond the beautiful graphics is a game that has no depth whatsover.

GodFall is a good launch title for the PlayStation 5 but is full of repetitive missions, uninteresting loot mechanics but fun and exciting combat. It's a mixed bag but ultimately fun and worth adding to your collection!

The launch of Godfall is a little bit of a misstep, especially considering the competition it had to go up against and the price it was retailing for, but there are some really clever, interesting mechanics in play here that are keeping me glued to my DualSense, along with a lot of promise for the future. Hopefully, the team persevere and get the chance to explore it.

Godfall has something to offer only to those who are satisfied with a good battle system. Its basic gameplay, although it does not attempt something radically new, is generally well executed. But the rest of the package, unfortunately, is characterized by trivial and poorly executed choices that turn it into a, not necessarily bad, but, completely

Little more than a shiny exhibition of new-generation graphics, Godfall only succeeds in creating interesting combat systems without giving any thought to the world and story around it.

Godfall is one of the very few new IPs available for next-gen consoles at launch, and while it's fun to play and gorgeous to look at, it doesn't have much else going for it.

Godfall is a very good-looking game for your brand new PS5, very shiny, but the battle system and gameplay as a whole becomes very boring pretty quickly, as it has many many issues too.

After slogging through the rest of Godfall’s campaign, you’ll reach the end-game content, consisting mostly of Dreamstone missions, which do continue the story a little bit. Past that, you’ll be grinding through the game’s toughest missions repeatedly in search of greater loot.

Godfall is the epitome of a traditional console launch title. It’s an accomplished product with stellar visuals and loud presentation, but beneath that is an often frustrating and cumbersome experience.

Godfall’s structural failings hinder its promising foundation from realizing its potential.

Godfall had potential, but unfortunately the developers chose to ignore it completely and instead there is a highly repetitive experience with a mindless story and a bunch of mistakes. Even the well-made combat or beautiful graphics of the environment cannot save a title where nothing simply matters.

Godfall is a pretty game but features stale gameplay that just gets repetitive after a while. It lacks depth and fun loot to collect. The concept of the looter/slasher isn't bad, just not fleshed out enough.

Godfall is guilty of being a little repetitive in design, but the fantastic combat mechanics and satisfying loot system more than make up for it. I had a whole lot of fun slicing away at enemies, whilst seeing my gear and skills constantly improve brought with it a rewarding sense of progress – especially when comparing my loadout with friends when playing through the campaign in online co-op. It is a shame that a lot of time has to be spent grinding and seeing the same environments again and again could be a bore, but there’s enough going on outside of those flaws to still make Godfall worth your attention. It might not necessarily be the best launch title on the PlayStation 5, but those who enjoy slick sword-clashing action and building up their own armour-clad warrior will definitely want to give it a try.

Godfall is undoubtedly a visually appealing game. The combat mechanics and gameplay is also a solid plus.

When you step away from the controller and really think about the cracks in its foundations, though, Godfall simply becomes another looter with a poor launch that can't seem to do much of anything right beyond being just fine. A terribly uninteresting story and a severe lack of content turns it into a game that will only provide you the bare minimum fun factor, and there's a lot better you can do with your time and money right now.

At the end of the day, Godfall is a game with a dull story, boring world, uninteresting loot, and simplistic combat, but it looks pretty and feels nice to play. It's not a bad game for a quick playthrough, but it's not something that is going to keep your attention for very long, despite theoretically being designed for loot-grinding fun. Considering the new game price of $70, it's difficult to recommend Godfall, even if you're very hungry for a new game for your PS5. Once it comes down in price, it'll be easier to justify picking it up for a mindless hack-and-slash weekend, but at the moment, it doesn't do enough to really be worthwhile.

In the end Godfall feels like a tech demo with questionable battle system, mandatory grind, boring locations and uninspiring plot. And as a cherry on top you can expect plenty of bugs and glitches. You can try this game, sure, but only if you don't have anything better to play, and only after some much needed updates and bugfixes.

hope that Godfall gets some content updates, as it feels like Counterplay Games might have rushed development to meet the PS5 release date. The core combat system is satisfying and would shine if the game had more unique content to push the player forward. As it is, there’s very little hook and most players will likely find themselves getting bored around the halfway mark.

Godfall is not a title without its charms. The combat system is solid and satisfying, and technically, the game is great proof of PlayStation 5's potential. But cramming levels full of particles effects and shining lights does not necessarily make for good aesthetic design, and Godfall also suffers from a weak story and repetitive endgame.

Godfall is such an unpleasant experience it's difficult for me to find anything to like. Occasionally, it flirts with just being a mediocre snooze, but then you hit an aggravating boss fight that reminds you of how poorly it was designed. It would take an entire shift in tone and genre to salvage anything offered.
