Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition isn’t going to win any awards. Hell, I doubt anyone remembers it’s out come March. And that’s probably where it should rest. It’s got a banging’ soundtrack, but you can listen to that without having to play it. Are you and three of your friends the biggest Scott Pilgrim fans on the planet? Okay, you got me. This will probably be the greatest thing to happen since Matthew Patel got the stuffing whipped out of him.

After a six year absence, Scott Pilgrim is once again back for blood. Aside from a few technical issues that will hopefully be ironed out soon, there is no reason to ignore the siren's call for a second time. It's high time to suit up and kick some bass.

It's really a simple little game, but it's one so full of personality. Not only does it contain all the major beats of the story you'd expect, but there are lots of small references to other games to find in Scott's chunky, pixelated hometown. The music adds to the effect a lot; Anamanaguchi's chiptune soundtrack is a delight. If you enjoy a straightforward beat-'em-up, this is well worth a look, even if you're not a fan of the source material — though it definitely helps.

No new features but still one of the most entertaining beat 'em up ever made. If you loved Streets of Rage 4 and River City Girls, this must be your next game of choice.

Scott Pilgrim Versus the World Complete Edition certainly aims to be a faithful collection of this decade-old RPG brawler but with a near-zero list of improvements, it's tough to call Scott Pilgrim's adventure anything more than a pre-wrapped gift to the fans.

It leans hard into its comic book and video game influences but also has some clever tricks up its sleeve, which is why it's aged so well and still feels fresh to play. The game can be frustrating and chaotic at times, and difficulty can be all over the place but grab some friends and you'll fall in lesbians all over again with this brilliant, resurrected classic all over again.

The landscape of the beat 'em up genre may have altered in the ten years since Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game first released, but it's return is wholly welcome. A wonderful compliment to the graphic novel series, and a stylish throwback to the delightfully gaudy brawlers that boomed and bloomed loudly in 90s arcades. Add friends for maximum impact.

Best enjoyed with a group of friends, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game deserved to be saved from digital purgatory. However, not even the thumping soundtrack and pleasant visuals can save it from being a rough go for solo gamers.

A love letter to the golden age of beat 'em ups that Nintendo and Sega ruled, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition isn't without its flaws and it has an entry curve more punishing than starting a band during your midlife crisis, but its still a terrific jump back in time that breathes new life into a cult classic.

Ultimately, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition may not impress players who don't already have an attachment to the Scott Pilgrim franchise. Those who do have that intimate attachment though will absolutely want to spend $14.99 to relive their memories of this unique little beat 'em up. Either way, having someone else to play it with will crank the whole experience up to 11. This game is so much better with a friend, a roommate, a new girlfriend, a new-new girlfriend, or maybe even an evil ex.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition is one of the best beat'em ups of the last decade. A great way to enjoy one of the games thought lost forever.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game – Complete Edition is a good remaster of a solid title. Though it doesn’t iron out some core issues with the original game, there’s still plenty of fun to be had here, especially if you’ve got some friends to join you for the ride.

Ubisoft proves here that the best can be improved. The new modes, the ability to play online and keep the game as it was in the original version and only adapt it to the new generation is an absolute success. And in case someone wonders if the game is enjoyable even without knowing the character, or the comic, or the movies, from now on I tell you that yes, it is a great beat'em up in every rule and that you can enjoy without prior knowledge, although of course, knowing more about the story I think it is much more appreciated. In addition, the film is excellent wherever you look at it, so you would be doing yourself a favor by watching it, but right now.

Fans of classic brawlers really can't go wrong with Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game – Complete Edition. It's gorgeous, satisfying to play, and has a positively banging soundtrack from pop/rock band Anamanaguchi that stands the test of time wonderfully.

If you played the original release to bits and have sorely been missing its absence, this rerelease will be everything you wanted. For those of you like me who perhaps have let your nostalgia for it run away with you, it’s still a good game – but it’s no masterpiece, especially for those who are not fans of old-school beat-em-ups. It’s a little dated now since games like Streets of Rage 4 have raised the bar for the genre, but Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition is still a fun, nostalgic title that’s great to play with friends.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition is a faithful port of a 10-year-old game that remains mostly unchanged, mainly because it didn't need to. Thankfully, online and drop-in play give it new life and soften the edge.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition brings together everything that was lost all those years ago to dreaded licensing issues to remind us of why we missed it so much. It's a fun and quirky beat-em-up, though the lack of online in all the modes offered feels like a bit of a missed opportunity.
