Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is a worthy return to Midgar with a number of visual enhancements. The Yuffie chapter is amazing to play and a worthy way to look forward to the sequel to this reimagining of Cloud and co.

There are several reasons that lead us to consider Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade the definitive role of the already superlative action RPG that last year saw the reborn capital of Mako Energy. If the new lighting system devised by Square Enix and the properly redesigned textures have solved the vast majority of the problems that plagued the solid PS4 version, the almost zero loading times and the 60 fps guaranteed by performance mode represent a valid incentive to return once again to the streets of Midgar and be bewitched by its beauty. As for episode intermission, the DLC has effectively reintroduced the adorable Yuffie, cementing its role within the seventh final fantasy, but in our opinion the paid content presents a rather exosive entrance ticket and far from proportionate to the low longevity.

The occasional moments of tonal dissonance stick out, but they don’t necessarily hurt the experience. And it can’t be underestimated how great it is to have a game that’s very much an allegory about Asian people fighting to be heard, and with two Asian voice actors actually playing the leads. Still, the episode is titled quite accurately. At five-to-seven hours, Episode INTERmission isn’t quite filler, but it’s also not entirely filling. It’s an appreciable detour on a much longer journey.

An authentic reimagining of the first act as a 30+ hour action-oriented thrill ride with new sub-plots, characters, and an elegant, modern interpretation of the ATB combat system. The remake is still best experienced on consoles, however, where solid performance and controls can be guaranteed.

A port surprisingly free of graphics options still benefits from being the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous way to play an amazing game.

Intergrade is a decent upgrade to a fantastic game. While some of the new features like haptic feedback leave a lot to be desired, the INTERmission DLC is a blast with some truly incredible gameplay, music, and characters that makes this worth getting if you already own a PS5.

Yuffie's episode is thrilling fan-service and a welcome slice of more of the same for fans of FF7 Remake, but it's also easily skippable.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is just as impressive now as it was back when it first released, touting blistering combat, an iconic setting excellently brought to life, astounding visuals, and compelling and ambitious storytelling. Its Switch 2 release might not offer a 60 FPS option at launch, but this is still a great way to play a spectacular game.

If FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE is a proof of concept in stress testing the Switch 2's processing power, consider it passing with flying colors. It's the same incredible FFVII remake that's been available on multiple platforms since its original release in 2020. While it doesn't add anything new for first time players, it's the best example of a AAA port done exceptionally well on the Nintendo Switch 2. If you're a Final Fantasy fan, Switch 2 owner, and have been waiting to play VII REMAKE INTERGRADE all this time, now is the best time to play. If you've been waiting to play a AAA port on your new Switch 2, this is assuredly the best port that should be added to your library.

Square Enix and Naoki Hamaguchi’s team did an amazing job with this port to Nintendo Switch 2. The resolution and frame performance are the trade-off, but not by much. Handheld mode is where the breaks in illusion show. Docked mode is the optimal way to play on Nintendo Switch 2. Everything else is intact and the added Streamline Progression options are a great addition. Just make sure you have a new SD card if you are adding this version to your library.

As part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade package or at a small cost on top of the free base game upgrade, the Yuffie-centric EPISODE INTERmission is a nice chunk of compelling new content to keep fans going in the absence of the next big title. It's not a radical departure, and it would've been nice to get a proper glimpse of some new locales, but what's here is still largely entertaining. Impressively, it manages to squeeze a nicely-paced and climactic experience out of its abridged RPG format. Plus, Yuffie is just too entertaining and likeable to not deserve a bit of the spotlight.

Final Fantasy VII Remake and its DLC carry the feeling of majesty throughout. Yes, it’s at times arguably unnecessary. Yes, it’s ridiculous that this even exists. Still, I can’t wait to be along for every turn of the future Final Fantasy VII ride. Bumps and all.

If you loved VII Remake, it's hard to imagine you not enjoying this episode. But if you haven't been able to find a PS5 or don't want to pay extra for it, you're not missing out on too much, either. Episode Intermission feels like a nice, bite-sized snack to munch on while waiting for the next main course with the second part, providing just enough new wrinkles and story elements to feel fresh while not doing anything crazy enough to warrant it as essential.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade is a good port of a game that can finally shine in 4K at 120 FPS. Nevertheless, the quality of the textures and some assets shows some ups and downs.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is an amazing but very pricey upgrade to a game that quite rightly got our Game of the Year 2020. Graphically, the difference this time around is notiacable and the brand new DLC is a fresh new look an an adventure we've played out many times before.

Intergrade continues the legacy of Final Fantasy VII with some great new content, but those coming from the PS4 version will have less to celebrate about.
