Biomutant is the equivalent of a book with a beautiful cover, but empty pages. The game offers a narration thats great at times, but gets also slowed by the narrator. Unfortunately, I quickly lost interest and its not for a lack of trying many times. I did have a few moments of fun, but I can't recommend this game for now.

Biomutant’s positives ever so slightly outweigh its faults and with more time (and patches), it could grow into a much more entertaining game. Its unique world, extensive customisation and pool of interesting moves and tricks in battle make this game fun to play but for now, a colourful but empty world, a wealth of glitches, and dull objectives make it a tough sell.

While the combat is stylish and its open-world is fun to explore, Biomutant is a game that bit off more than it could chew, leaving a lot of parts feeling half-baked.

This game has lost even its fun due to the three-year delay in development. It shows a combat system like a puppetshow and a hollow open world which only have frames at all.

Biomutant is briskly paced but also a drag at certain points. It’s frequently overwhelming and somehow deceptively simple. Most of the time, it exists in this superposition of contradictory states where its successes and failures coexist and commingle, which lends an undeniably singular quality to a game that, at a glance, doesn’t stray too far from the open-world mold. I haven’t played anything quite like Biomutant before and neither have you. Not everyone will be able to look past the price tag and a parade of minor flaws to appreciate that uniqueness. Regardless, I’m glad that this exists.

Anyone looking for an RPG with a fascinating story and depth in mechanics and characters has to look elsewhere.

Biomutant is an ambitious title unnecessarily posing for an AAA one. Its vastness can make other studios envious at first, but it makes the game spread itself too thin.

Despite its appealing open-world and charmingly oddball characters, Biomutant’s jank-heavy gameplay, short length, and over-familiar grab-bag of RPG tropes make for a frustratingly lukewarm experience.

Biomutant can at best be described as an unexciting and unmotivated gameplay mash-up that never really outgrows its 08/15 status. In short: The RPG doesn't hurt anyone and certainly doesn't mark a total failure, but it is still far too immature and doesn't really seem to have been thought through to the end at any point. In the end, the cuddly adventure degenerates into an undemanding and perhaps even child-friendly action game for entertaining fun, which is still searching for its own identity. Admittedly, some interesting and creative ideas have been incorporated here and there, but they never quite want to coalesce into a homogeneous mass. It seems as if Biomutant simply got lost in the abundance of its individual parts. The bottom line is that our Frankenstein monster will probably need a bit more than just a few additional seams until it is actually fully functional.

From the world to the character designs and the environmental themes the game plays around with, you can sense the passion from the team making Biomutant. It's an undeniable passion from the team, and there's a lot of ideas to love, but the scope here is beyond what the team could deliver in a well-wrapped package.

Biomutant is an ambitious animal populated open-world with so much to do most players could spend 60-70 hours exploring without seeing everything. However, size is its downfall. The player will get lost, and bogged down in the morass of thousands of side quests, thousands of superfluous items, before they realise there’s not much plot to hang it all from. Add a number of glitches at launch, no lock-on in combat, and a narrator that will drive many players to distraction, and sadly Biomutant does not live up to its lofty ambitions.

Biomutant still sits in the slightly-above-average tier of its genre, albeit much more confidently than before.

Outside of its charm, BIOMUTANT brings nothing to the table, and feels like it's lacking in all the important places.

An ambitious open-world action-RPG from a new studio that does a lot, but doesn’t do a lot very well.

A huge open-world game with a lot of fun novelties but annoying and broken issues.

Another common debate in the gaming community, especially after some games going to $70, is quality versus quantity. For the longer time I’ve always favored quantity, though believe in a healthy mix of both, but Biomutant makes a compelling case for why quantity is bad.

Despite its many flaws, Biomutant remains a fun game with a study set of bones that might pay off in future titles should THQ Nordic give developer, Experiment 101 the green light to revisit their post-apocalyptic, kung-fu epic in a future sequel. As of right now, it might not exactly be worth full price until it receives some TLC.

Biomutant is full of creative ideas and unique thoughts that, when combined with such a gorgeous and compelling environment to explore, could have made for a top-tier experience that is easy to recommend. However, the fact that it has so many ideas crammed in that it almost feels like too much, and an open world that can feel very by-the-numbers, makes Biomutant a solid game that misses the mark almost as much as it hits the nail on the head.

Biomutant ultimately wants you to invest a lot of time and effort in it, and I found a lack of willingness to do so.
