New World Aeternum is fascinating. A huge campaign that you can enjoy alone or with friends joins a lot of PvP and PvE content in groups, a thousand things to do and a lot of factions that will allow us to conquer the territory, improve its defenses and turn Aeternum into our empire

New World: Aeternum’s mix of swords, magic and gunpowder is blended with a colorful world and accessible but satisfying mechanics. With a good balance between solo, co-op PvE and PvP content, Aeternum has something to offer most players. Nothing’s incredibly original, but neither is anything totally broken or missing. The most glaring faults of the original have been addressed. Whatever you call it — reboot, remix or re-skin — New World: Aeternum is worth checking out.

New World: Aeternum is a good re-release and expansion of the original game, well adapted for consoles and with more than enough setting, combat and content to hook MMORPG fans for dozens of hours.

New World: Aeternum is an MMORPG with an engaging storyline, highly enjoyable combat mechanics, a versatile class system, and a robust crafting system that encourages exploration. Thanks to its solid gameplay foundation, we can say this relaunch is a rough diamond, that if polished correctly, has the potential to rival the biggest MMOs on the market.

New World is a very pretty survival-MMORPG hybrid that saves its best moments for the endgame – but you have to be willing to grind like hell to get to them.

New World's engaging crafting and faction rivalries are held back by abysmal PvE and a boring world.

High-stakes PvP battles and top-notch production values bolster Amazon's MMORPG, even if its PvE content and occasionally frustrating systems may leave some players wanting.

I was admittedly surprised with how thoroughly I enjoyed my time with New World. From the freeform character and weapon progression to the resource gathering and faction dynamics, there’s a lot to explore and experience. That said, New World very much feels like an MMO in a very early state. There’s not a ton of Expeditions, there’s no mounts, and there’s an obvious need for balancing with features like Siege. Luckily, MMOs often get better as they age, and if Amazon Games can build upon this great foundation, they’ll have a surefire hit on their hands.

Neither meat nor fish, New World amazes but not in a positive sense. Not everything is to be thrown away: the mass game created by Amazon Games can entertain and has potential, but the absence of identity and technical problems weigh.

New World is a pretty damn good MMORPG. It's fun and accessible, and though it doesn't do anything truly new, it has enough little twists on existing ideas to keep me invested.

New World offers players - even MMO veterans - a satisfying mix of combat, character growth and discovery.

Despite bugs and queue times, Amazon Games' new MMORPG is good piratey fun (especially the Faction system), but the early game is very grindy and you will cut down a lot of trees.

New World brings a lot of excellent MMO twists to the table, but its marred by bugs, stale quests, and a lack of endgame content.

New World’s ideas come across as very solid, but the more I’ve engaged with it, the more I see problems. Those problems have nothing to do with the foundation of New World, however. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with New World besides the economy and lack of main missions, and only the former can destroy the game. The rest of the issues can be fixed with time and enough attention to the details.

New World is one of the most beginner-friendly MMOs available, but its lacking quests and PvE makes me worried about the future. The PvP, however, is a blast.

Amazon has done a decent job with New World with its exquisite visuals and overall environment. They just need to smooth out those rough edges and implement some mounts!

New World feels like a modern MMORPG. It looks beautiful, the combat is fluid, and there's plenty to keep you engaged. The island feels alive with warring factions and hostile enemies. And the fighting is very fun. You'll never be short of tasks to complete, but sometimes the narrative will leave you feeling uninspired. It needs a little more emotion injected into it.

All MMORPGs are major time commitments by definition, so whether New World can hold your attention long term is probably a function of your expectations, and whether you connect with what the game has to offer. New World probably won’t ever surprise you, but it won’t disappoint you either.

New World is off to a rocky start, but if Amazon can right the ship and address real player concerns, it has the chance to be something really special. But right now, it’s an okay experience overall that leaves me wanting more in order to stick around.
