Young Souls is a well-designed brawler with an exciting combat system that is easy to use. The story makes an impactful impression as the wayward teens will constantly entertain you with a barrage of witty remarks while defending their sleepy town from hordes of underground monsters.

Young Souls is an experience that we advise fans of fighting games because of their challenge and excellent content, the game may need some minor improvements here and there but this will not prevent you from enjoying it.

Young Souls is a solid beat-em up that intelligently adds role-playing ideas to enhance its core gameplay. The bosses are well-designed and mostly fun to fight, especially if the player wisely diversified what the pair can do. The narrative is not groundbreaking but gives players plenty of interesting moments and cool banter (again, with plenty of swearing that can be filtered out).

These foul-mouthed twins had me cracking up on multiple occasions, but the software closing unexpectedly had me cursing just as often. There's definitely potential with this one, but it's probably worth exploring other platform options if you have them. Even though you can see the heart and charm that goes along with these two souls, a bit more polish would have gone a long way.

With the volume of titles I'm typically reviewing on a weekly basis I'll admit that anything that calls itself an RPG in any way I tend to be hesitant to check out, worried about the typical timesink of hours and grinding it can take to make the most of them...

Young Souls is a promising new side-scrolling brawler with beautiful design and addictive gameplay that manages to distract from the lack of variety and various glitches that plague the title.

Overall, Young Souls is a fantastic beat’em up with those RPG mechanics that fed my loot and number cravings. Toss in the satisfying combat and customizability of each twin’s loadout, and I found something that I’ll want to come back to time and time again.

Young Souls does a fine balancing act of providing an engaging story, good coop elements and solid dungeon crawling. While it can get a bit too chatoic at times, it still hold up among some of the most fun I had in 2022 so far.

Young Souls is certainly no Streets of Rage 4, but it's still worthy of your time if you like more RPGing and loot-collecting in your 2D beat-em-up experience.

Young Souls is definitely a lot of fun, especially if you enjoy playing games like Final Fight or Streets of Rage. Finishing up at around 12 hours seems like the perfect amount of time for a game of this nature. Long enough to experiment with different weapons and load ups but not overstaying its welcome. Young Souls is an impressive success and I look forward to what the future may hold for this up and coming indie development tandem.

Pushing back goblin hordes with a buddy by your side never felt more enjoyable or seamless, with Young Souls’ combat a big highlight of this RPG-brawling title.

Another worthy representative of the new era of beat'em ups, Young Souls is a fun title that is likely to please fans of the genre. Although its protagonists sometimes tread a dangerous path between daring and boring, and the Switch adaptation isn't the best technically speaking, here's a charismatic adventure with moments of brilliance, especially in multiplayer.

Young Souls is an agile beat 'em up with good ideas. Combat excites with frantic confrontations and intense challenge, and good character customization options offer good strategy possibilities when fighting. Besides that, the setting impresses with its elaborate look that mixes 2D and 3D. RPG elements try to add more complexity to the journey, but the tepid execution of these concepts makes them almost irrelevant. In the end, Young Souls is fun and is a great option for those looking for a beat 'em up a little more complex.

This stylish couch-co op beat-em-up actually plays better as a one-player game. The story’s pacing is a bit plodding, but the overall beats of the plot are solid and engaging. The combat feels much the same, in that it has the makings of greatness marred by issues with rhythm and timing. Young Souls shoots for the stars and lands somewhere in the moon’s orbit instead.

Overall though, Young Souls is a great new entry in the beat ’em up genre that is bolstered by its RPG elements. The RPG aspects are numerous and well-designed so as to keep you constantly engaged with new things to try out or enemies to take a swing at again. The fact that the whole game can be played in classic beat ’em up co-op or solo is an added bonus.

Young Souls, despite several blemishes, shines as one of the strongest beat-’em-up titles in recent memory, joining the likes of Streets of Rage 4 and Castle Crashers. With accessible options for difficulty, a simple but straightforward story, local co-operative play, and challenging combat that fuses concepts from multiple genres, it provides a roadmap for how the genre can and should continue to evolve for modern audiences. With any luck, we’ll see Jenn and Tristan another time in a sequel, with double the swear words included.
