The compilation isn't the most beautiful or detailed addition to the series, but it plays the smoothest. If you're prepared to overlook, or at least work around, the faults, GTA The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is well worth considering.

While it isn't without merits, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy Definitive Edition is also plagued by many technical problems. You might relive some nostalgia if you're a fan of the classics, but new players should wait for Rockstar to release some patches before diving in.

Succinctly and clearly, the Nintendo Switch version of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is not worth your money, at least not yet! It is a painful experience, with serious performance issues that make you completely forget the few improvements implemented in this classic trilogy, which for its legacy, deserved much more respect than it was due.

I like to think that some thought was put into the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Definitive Edition, at least when it came to the quality of life improvements. But outside of that, it’s hard to say that this is the definitive way to play these all time classics. The end product of Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Definitive Edition feels more like a mod created from one person. And that would have been more forgiving if that was the case, however, it’s a full team (a small one granted) and the end result just simply isn’t on par with the level of expected quality. We weren’t asking for a full blown remake, but we definitely weren’t expecting to get this. It’s horrendously buggy, disgustedly ugly, and most of all, it’s not the same GTA we played decades ago. The very soul of the original Rockstar Team has been sucked out of them, and in their place, replaced with intolerable cash grab. I would say go grab the originals, but they have been replaced with this not so definitive version of the game. Maybe Rockstar and Grove Street will somehow pull through in the end, and restore much of what made the originals so beloved, but I guess, at least for PC players out there, they can look forward to modders fixing this mess.

Definitive Edition? Such a term is unfit for the GTA trilogy. GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas remasters are half-baked, full of mistakes, bugs, and plenty of ugly things, such as weird faces and animations. We really can't believe this is the Rockstar now, but here we are.

It's hard to shake off the feeling that someone wanted to get money from nostalgic fans. GTA Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is an interesting but painful journey. I liked revisiting Vice City the most - new graphics suit this game more than the other two.

Good, fun games are good, fun games, and even with glitches and the numerous issues this trilogy brings, that's what these still are. However, seeing the state of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, there just isn't any way to let Rockstar off lightly here. This is one of the most successful video game companies in the world, with goodness knows how much raked in from GTA Online, so there can be no excuses to have loaned out these iconic games to a small team with a poor track record and showing absolutely no respect for their own creations. Fifty pounds is a big ask for such old games that have been what one might say "demastered", and even with numerous future patches, these may never be the upgrades they should have been, but Switch owners new to this trilogy can find plenty of entertainment - and not just because of the glitches. This is still a hard sell, though, with the advice being to hold off for a major sale.

More than anything else, playing this trilogy in 2021 forced me to consider what a "remaster" is on a fundamental level. Is is just juicing up the graphics and making the main characters a little more detailed? Or could there be something more to it? I've been living with these games since they were first released. They each fueled moral panics in their own way. GTA 3 and Vice City were at the center of a resurrected set of arguments about video game violence, and how it would turn kids into mass killers. The spectacular nature of these claims propelled lawyer Jack Thompson into the limelight, and turned him into a special kind of video game culture villain, the bogeyman who still gets invoked when people are afraid anyone is going to touch their video games. San Andreas' Hot Coffee fiasco, produced when developers accidentally left the scripts for a sex minigame in the game files on release, ended with a class-action lawsuit settlement that allowed offended players to collect $35.

There is so much wrong with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition that we doubt that any amount of updates could fix the game in any significant way. As of now, we can only hope that moving forward, Rockstar Games will learn for their mistakes. Or at the very least will find more experienced development partners and invest in quality control. The work done by Grove Street Games is just straight up bad.

This comeback of the three GTA classics feels superficial and poorly optimized, although some improvements are clearly visible. It's not the remaster we were hoping for, but these are still immortal classics that can still entertain and sometimes even amaze. And sometimes that's all we need.

GTA: The Trilogy is an experience that suits fans of the original version and who are willing to overlook the technical problems to play the game again other than that it is recommended to wait for updates coming from the company for the game.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition is kinda rough and kinda janky, but it isn't quite the disaster that the dogpile claims it is. Sure, the character design looks rough in high resolution and there are a fair number of bugs, but the games largely function as they did three generations back when they released. It ain't great, but we've certainly seen worse.

GTA: The Trilogy has a total lack of attention to details. At times it seems that Rockstar Games didn't even bother to oversee the work of Grove Street Games. There are some moments and small details that lead one to think that an algorithm was responsible for remastering the graphics and that no human reviewed the final product. GTA deserves more.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition deserved better. Never mind the lack of parity across all the versions- each platform gets its own flaws to deal with. Sadly, Nintendo Switch is the console that gets the absolute worst way to play any of the games in this trilogy.

Here’s the thing, though; despite every issue that the GTA: DE suffers from, I’ve still been having a good time with it. Which is simply a testament to how well-written the Grand Theft Auto series is. The GTA: DE needs a patch. Or, maybe, it needs a boatload of patches. Though, I still find myself enjoying the over-the-top storylines, ridiculous dialogue, and outrageous mission structure. It’s hard to call these definitive, but still easy to call them classics.

Overall, the final edition of the GTA Trilogy is a disingenuous reset, although the quality of light and shadow, map compared with the original has significantly improved, but the game is full of a variety of poor-quality modeling, as well as many f bugs.

Bugs may vary in degree across titles in the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition release, but whether or not they are tolerable, it is puzzling to see how this got past Rockstar, especially with the output that you know they can bring out.
