If only occasionally mired by fantasy tropes and the limitations of the genre, fans of turn-based strategy games like Final Fantasy Tactics will find plenty to enjoy in Triangle Strategy. Battles can be slow and methodical but with multiple endings and different choices to make, there are plenty of reasons to explore everything that the game has to offer.

Triangle Strategy knows how to tell an exciting story, and that's its greatest asset. The strategy mechanics are unfortunately inferior to the great classics from which it takes its inspiration, but the great replayability should keep you glued to the Switch screen for a long time.

While the pressures of running a High House may seem oppressive, don’t despair! Each struggle comes with its own rich rewards. If you’ve got the patience for it, Triangle Strategy will get its hooks deep in your brain.

Triangle Strategy is one of the most compelling titles on the Switch if you can immerse yourself in the world and its characters then you’ll find it a rewarding experience. The game juggles several complicated systems that are awesome once you get the hang of them. Each unit feels distinctive in their design, character and playstyle and I cared for them all which is a hell of an achievement in a game with a fairly large cast.

The first handful of gameplay hours are working against Triangle Strategy. Not a lot of combat, characters that you don't care about yet doing things that are not very interesting. However, there is an excellent game, with a fascinating story to experience, hiding behind all of that initial content. You have to learn about the world you are dropped into before you can have the ride of your life, if that's not of interest then look elsewhere. It's hard to say just play the first four hours, if you're not hooked by then you'll never be, but it's the truth.

Triangle Strategy lacks the gameplay depth of Final Fantasy Tactics, and it doesn’t come anywhere near the story richness of Tactics Ogre despite borrowing its branching-path narrative design. However, Triangle Strategy’s streamlined battle system is significantly more approachable and less likely to invoke frustration. Likewise, even with the narrative being as bland as it is, it’s exciting for its own sake to see what happens when you make a big, story-altering decision. The final result is a strategy RPG that is extremely easy to recommend to newcomers, and longtime enthusiasts will probably appreciate it too. Triangle Strategy isn’t Square at its best, but it might be Square at its most fun.

Triangle Strategy weaves a mature story full of intrigue and places the player in an unenviable position of having to make some very tough choices with meaningful consequences, all the while challenging them to face encounters that will test their strategic mind. In other words, it’s a compelling good time.

At its core, Triangle Strategy is a tale about the dangers of extremism. It paints a grisly picture of greed, selfishness, and horrors committed in the name of Unity, Morality, and Liberty. However, it also offers up the hope that the cycle of violence can be ended. Bringing true peace and understanding to Norzelia won’t be easy, but it is possible.

Triangle Strategy wasn’t the game I thought it was when I accepted the review assignment, but I am glad I did because after I really got into the game I enjoyed the story, and the extremely tough decisions it asks the player to make. Triangle Strategy isn’t a perfect game but it is a really good time.

Triangle Strategy is an absolute triumph for Artdink and Square Enix, a fantastic mix of satisfyingly strategic battles, an excellent choice-driven campaign narrative and top-notch world-building, all of which come together to form one of the finest tactical RPGs we've played in a very long time. There's an absolute ton of content here, with a huge story featuring multiple paths to take depending on the choices you make and several properly impactful endings to enjoy on return visits. Serenoa Wollfort's epic journey is a joy from start to finish, a grand and ambitious adventure that stands proud as one of the very finest examples of its genre on Switch.

I think fans of the genre are going to really appreciate what Triangle Strategy has going for it, even if the character development could use a bit more work. And for genre newcomers or those less familiar with it like myself, this is a fantastic entry point with an engaging story to keep you hooked.

Triangle Strategy is simply spectacular. Square Enix has given us a tactical JRPG that demonstrates all the strengths of this genre, and presents us with a series of quite interesting ideas.

The journey through the story of Triangle Strategy is a captivating experience, especially for those who enjoy high-stakes fantasy plotlines with political intrigue and well-rounded characters. While it will likely appeal to those who enjoy choice-based games and narratively rich worlds, it may not be the best pick for Square Enix fans who like the fast-paced combat of recent Final Fantasy games, or who prefer open-world and exploration driven gameplay. Triangle Strategy creates an experience where players must think and choose actions carefully, and where decisions matter. This focus makes it an excellent choice for those who prefer a good story over hack-and-slash battles and aimless combat.

Exactly one year after the debut of Bravely Default II, Tomoya Asano and his team have written another important page of the Japanese role-playing game, this time proposing a nostalgic strategy, challenging and characterized by mechanics of great depth.

Triangle Strategy is a fantastic tactical role-playing game with a great pixel look – but a little more pace would have been good for the game.

“Triangle Strategy” is a fun title that has an engaging story with fantastic characters and worldbuilding. Better English voice acting would have been icing on the cake, but the half-baked vocal delivery left me feeling a bit deflated. In any case, fans of strategy and tactics-based RPG games should definitely check “Triangle Strategy” out.

Meticulously paced to a fault, Triangle Strategy doesn't give off the best first impression. Stick with it, though, and you'll be rewarded with engaging gameplay and a gripping story that constantly delivers.

That these abilities are purchased with the “kudos” earned from an efficiently fought battle shows yet again how Triangle Strategy always follows through on consequences—even good ones. In the world of this game, even something as casual as a thank you becomes a test of your character, and in the player’s hands, the fruits of such gratitude can become yet another weapon with which to win an exceedingly bloody war by any means.
