V Rising shows us that being a vampire lord isn't all about smoldering looks, frock coats, and soaring Gothic architecture. It's a lot of work, apparently. But it has its perks, such as roaming the countryside, picking fights with champions, and occasionally draining them dry for their power.

V Rising may not be your cup of tea, but it offers an intriguing combination of building mechanics and gameplay systems that truly reach their high potential when playing with other players. Without others, though, be prepared for a long, solitary grind to reach a portion of that potential.

V Rising is a devilishly addictive action RPG - but only once you've worked through the game's fairly tedious first act. Getting your castle up and running takes time and patience, but if you can embrace the grind, you'll discover a dynamic open world that's full of interesting ideas and satisfying gameplay loops.

A peculiar but well-conceived concept that brings together multiple disparate gameplay elements, to create a highly customisable, but occasionally somewhat shallow, vampire sim.

V Rising offers something distinct, and pretty cookie cutter at the same time. It’s a survival game, but with a novel genre blend meant to attract a different kind of audience. There’s a lot of these, but V Rising brings the action-RPG and gothic styles to the table in a way that feels unique. So that’s fun, but the survival and crafting part is about as boilerplate as it gets. Therefore, if you’re the type of person that shrivels up and shrieks at survival game systems like a vampire considering the concept of brunch, V Rising won’t change your mind. But if you can hang with the concept and also enjoy some Diablo-like combat, having those two things together in one game is pretty rad.

V Rising focuses on building and maintaining your own vampire stronghold, which works really well and is fun with sufficient resources. On the way there, however, there are annoying skill restrictions, even more annoying running around the world and generally a rather average action RPG that can't stand out from the crowd enough with good approaches and should definitely be played with others.

Overall, V Rising is quite a fun package with great progression, but is held back by how extremely grindy it can be.

V Rising has a solid foundation and few interesting ideas, but hides them in the shadows of the games that inspired it.

V Rising left Early Access after two years. Vampire Survival tempts with its juicy gameplay, atmosphere and online elements. However, this is not a title for lonely bloodsuckers, but for entire clans ready for an arduous grind and demanding bosses.

I found V Rising to be quite fun and with its many gameplay elements, options, and multiplayer modes; you'll likely find a lot to love here. 🧛

V Rising is an excellent game rooted in vampire folklore, blending survival elements with action RPG-style combat that will keep you glued to the screen, offering numerous engaging challenges and a large amount of content for every type of player. While it still has some minor issues and an excessive reliance on real-time progression that might deter some players, we highly recommend giving it a chance, even to those who usually avoid this genre, as it might just surprise you.

V Rising is one of the most enjoyable survival games I've played. Surprisingly, survival mechanics are not the main focus of the game and do not hinder the gameplay. Throughout the game, we have a clearly defined objective, all garnished with a ton of excellent, meaty combat. If it weren't for the somewhat corridor-like small map, it would be even better, but it's still a pleasant game, definitely worth recommending.

We awaken as a vampire. We hunt for blood in nearby settlements to regain our strength and, to survive, we must avoid the scorching sun. We build our castle and make it thrive in an ever-changing open world full of secrets. V Rising is a solid networked survival game. The enormous depth of vampire abilities that can be unlocked and items that can be created leaves a lot of room for freedom and customisation.

V Rising stands out as an excellent survival game held back by a few minor issues accompanied by the fact that players will most likely get value out of their first playthrough, but feel tired during their subsequent ones. However, the game shines brightly (ouch) with its vampiric charm, extensive base building, and satisfying and varied combat mechanics making it one of the best survival games I’ve played period. The game’s dedication and love for its theme are palpable, evident in its systems, even with weaknesses like garlic being turned into a fun mechanic. Due to these reasons, I am awarding V Rising the Gold Thumb Culture Award.

V Rising is a game capable of offering a significant challenge if that's what you're looking for, or a pleasant experience of exploration and construction if that’s your preference. The key is to configure the game to suit how you enjoy it the most; this is essential. On the other hand, the game is clearly more focused on multiplayer gameplay. While it is enjoyable solo, the experience is not quite the same, so keep that in mind.

V Rising stands out in the ocean of current survival games, offering a pleasant adventure with the potential to entertain fans of vampire themes and action mechanics for hours on end. Although the experience is undoubtedly better when accompanied, once you are “bitten” by this title, it is difficult not to let yourself be contaminated (in a good way).

V Rising is a phenomenal open-world survival game that sets the bar for how other Early Access games should strive to be going forward.

V Rising is as triumphant on PlayStation 5 as it is on PC. However, the only major downer on PS5 is needing to pay to play online, but that's now a standard difference between PC and console gaming.

V Rising successfully blends vampire tropes with survival crafting elements and action combat to create an immersive and oddly relaxing experience. Dodging the inconvenience of the sun as you expand your castle places you in the mindset of a young vampire, the atmospheric soundtrack adding to the soothing sense of solitude as you're harvesting resources. While there's a lack of narrative hooks, there is plenty of exploring, crafting and hunting to occupy your nights, and the choice is yours as to whether you traverse the expansive open world as part of a clan or enjoy spooky decorating in peace.
