The best video game adaptation of the wildest manga property gets a better-than-average port. For Jojo's fans only, though.

This is a game that was worthy of a rerelease via JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle R with upgraded everything for every modern platform. The mystifying visuals and proper adjustments to audio all around make this is one that should be played with your friends.

For JoJo fans, this remaster is likely to be very welcome indeed. It takes a solid fighting game that arrived towards the end of the PS3’s life and not only enhances it, but also expands upon it. The result is a game that looks a bit dated visually, but still has a hell of a lot to offer, especially for those happy to simply play against the CPU or another local player. Ultimately, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R may not quite have the pizzazz to compete with the modern fighting game elite, but it certainly puts on a good show.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is one of those games that you either Love it, or you don't care about it. For the fan of JoJo's anime, This game will be familiar and lovely, and for those who have never watched it, it will be confusing and irrelevant. Art style is unique and when it comes to combat, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is not everyone's cup of tea.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is a beautiful retelling of a great and little-known fighting game based on one of today's most beloved franchises. With beautiful graphics, satisfying mechanics and lots of content, the remaster lacks a limited, unstable and outdated online model, in addition to little (or no) narrative context for newcomers in this bizarre world.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R should please fans of the anime and manga series with its stylized graphics, huge roster, and outrageous fighting action.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R’s weighty combat is a bit of an acquired taste, but the sheer amount of fanservice on display will appeal to those who have a knack for the bizarre.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is a much better experience compared to the original title. The modes feel more tightly put together, the character roster has been expanded greatly, and the fighting feels more involved, making the experience much more fun than in the 2016 offering. Unless you're primarily an online player, this is well worth checking out.

The online module of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is effectively broken and useless. Everything feels way too slow and unresponsive. Matches will also end randomly or never happen at all. However, the local play works exactly as intended and the story mode is as entertaining as the goofy and boisterous manga that it is based on. At the end of the day, Araki's style and the strong JoJo flavour is what elevates this Tekken-like fighting game from being completely average.

Since its original release back in 2013, there has been a spike of increase of people who got to know more about the JoJo's franchise. The game itself also has been through various updates and tweaks which allowed the publisher to be encouraged for another challenge. But due to its old technology in network environments, it wouldn’t be the most pleasant experience unless you're a diehard fan of the franchise. The art style however is top notch in creating the vibes of the original anime and the actual voice actors behind the works also. For most fans, the developer efforts that were implemented to make it feel close to the original would be enough for them to enjoy this game to the fullest.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is a fantastic installment and a great update to the classic fighting game from almost 10 years ago. It’s made even better thanks to changes that should appeal to both fans of the source material and those looking for competition. Newcomers looking the use All-Star Battle R to get acquainted with the series will be out of luck, as the closest thing to a story mode in the game will expect players to already be familiar with the characters and their stories. That being the case, this shouldn’t stop newcomers from enjoying a fun and solid fighting game.

Negatives aside, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is a wonderful remaster with great visuals and aesthetics, smooth gameplay, and tons of content that JoJo fans will especially appreciate. And while the game is mainly tailored toward series fans, I believe it still offers an experience most fighting game fans will enjoy as long as they don’t play online or expect any cohesive narrative or story mode based on the franchise.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is more than just a remaster, with many new contents and meaningful gameplay improvements with more technical fights and the 60 fps frame rate. Too bad we can't say the same about its online multiplayer gameplay, which can feel almost unplayable due to the delay-based netcode. All in all, this would be an advised buy only if you're planning alone or in local multiplayer.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is the best game based on Araki's manga, a must for fans due to the affection with which it recreates the license and its fun combat system. However, its limited variety of modes hurts the whole.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R feels held back not by the failings of its design, but the support of its fundamental features. With any luck, these issues are just the growing pains before greater days.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is a much better fighting game than it was on its original release. The various gameplay tweaks and the increase to 60fps on current-gen and PC bring this underrated title to life.  Unfortunately lackluster online multiplayer and lack of new characters do knock this down somewhat, but if you haven't already owned the original and are newly into JoJo you'd be downright bizarre to sit this title out.

The original JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle dropped on the PlayStation 3 in 2013 at the tail end of CyberConnect2’s golden era. Released just a few months after Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, All-Star Battle benefited from the wealth of arena fighting game experience CC2 had accumulated throughout the 2000s. Now almost a decade later, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R retains all of its old-school charm and heaps of content while looking better than ever before.

Overall JoJo is a pretty solid fighter and a pretty good upgraded port to boot. Some may find the price somewhat prohibitive given the semi-bare bones modes on offer combined with the fact that we are ultimately talking about a port of a niche near decade old fighter, but if you can look past that, there's fun to be had. Jo Jo Manga/Anime fans should definitely be giving this a go.
