It's a real pleasure to play Homeworld Remastered Collection, especially given the rarity of real-time space strategy games, and Gearbox Software has done a great job of upgrading the audio and video. The gameplay in particular holds up very nicely, and proves that the original was well ahead of its time. Unfortunately, it's held back a bit by its clumsy interface, and formations are currently quite broken, which will hurt its standing with long-time fans. But all that said, it's hard not to love Homeworld Remastered Collection's striking and memorable space battles, which have very much stood the test of time.

For real time strategy fans, this is nothing short of a must-buy, while those with the patience to get to grips with Homeworld's idiosyncratic mechanics will find their time richly rewarded.

While we're sceptical about the rather rushed out nature of this remaster, it has to be said that Homeworld is still a fantastic Real Time Strategy game and should be in the library of any one with an interest in the genre.

If Homeworld Remastered Collection were to be released now as a totally new title rather than a classic game with a polished sheen, it would be a complete revolution in strategy gaming. As it is now, Homeworld 1 & 2 stand up incredibly well to their modern contemporaries thanks to a little elbow grease and a lot of fiddling.

A classic sci-fi saga that's stood the test of time. Thanks to a sympathetic visual update, the graphics look spectacular even by today's high standards, while the well-balanced gameplay and excellent mission design haven't dated much at all. Old fans might not like the way the original Homeworld has been fixed to reflect changes made for the sequel, but it's great to see two legends not just return, but reaffirm what made them legendary in the first place.

Despite the shortcomings of the multiplayer mode and the sequel's disappointing narrative, the Homeworld Remastered collection is a must-purchase for any fans of the RTS genre. The HD upgrade makes the already-addicting game even more beautiful and engaging, and the unique 3D combat and navigation bring something to the table that is still drastically different from the vast majority of other RTS games available.

Homeworld Remastered delivers a beautiful but flawed HD update of two of the greatest RTS ever. While Homeworld 2 is stable, bugs in Homeworld will confound newcomers while many of the fundamental changes therein may alienate veterans.

The huge amount of work that went into modernising and reinterpreting the many visuals, from the ships to the wonderfully abstract nebulous backdrops feel like a massive love letter to both the original game, and to the fans who love it.

Overall though, the game is still a blast to play. The glorious visuals and soundtrack make one feel like they are redirecting an episode of the recent Battlestar Galatica reboot. Homeworld is a unique game in the space combat genre and with this Remastered version, Gearbox has proven that you can go back home again.

The Homeworld Remastered Collection is an excellent example of how to bring classic RTS gameplay into modern gaming. While there are a few issues with pacing at the beginning of games, the fluid combat, three-dimensional strategy and excellent attention to detail makes this a hugely unique and immersive gameplay experience.

Despite some needless changes to Homeworld 1's mechanics, this is still a fantastic remastered collection by Gearbox that shouldn't be missed by newcomers to the series or fans who have been itching to replay the series.
